As for another production run for 10221 it is entirely possible. 10188 and 10220 EOL has been potsponed a few times due to excessive demand. I also remain wary as it is said it will be in the Holiday catalog this year.

For what it is worth, my sources have told me that the SSD has been marked as a "retired product" within the LEGO stores in the US.  I have hinted at this for a couple of weeks, waiting to see if anything would happen to change my mind or to make me think my reliable source was wrong.  It hasn't.

I have an order from that same day (June 15th). I received an email a couple hours ago that it now has a ship date of July 2.

I haven't seen SSD in store since, since quite some time, months.

 

And I didn't see DS yesterday.

 

Interesting to note, they do have 2 GE on the shelf.

My source gives me information in bits and pieces.  He/she is very careful, but has been correct on many issues.  We will see if I hear anything about the 10188.

 

From my own point of view, I think the 10188 is showing all the signs of EOL, just as the Fire Brigade, Grand Emporium and SSD did earlier.  Although the latter two have not "officially" been announced as retired, I would say for all intents and purposes, they are done here in the US.  You might still see a couple here or there, but that is just excess stock popping up.  

 

As I have stated in the past about the SSD and GE, if you want a 10188, I would buy it now.

I know how to solve that issue. Sell some stuff. Hopefully it will clear enough space for you to store some SSD.

I've kind of been watching Amazon for the past few weeks.  When it went live today, it wasn't too hard to talk myself into getting a couple more.  Of course, I'm still in a no sales tax state and you can factor in the Amazon 3% cash back.  It's hard to resist a few more when you see them shooting up to almost $700 so quickly.

I have to factor in taxes when I buy something for large amounts of money. If I bought some on Amazon today, I would have to pay $32 in taxes which isn't fun.

If I am not mistaken, they brought back the SSD product page overnight. I think last night it was "no products found" but I could have it mixed up with another set I am watching since they take em down and put em back up so frequently lately. Maybe that is what triggered the alert at nowinstock?

For those that think that SSD will fly off of ebay at $650 a pop in a couple of months, I think you are wrong.  I am a new Lego collector( less than a month).  So far I have not been able to get an SSD at retail, but I have managed to get 5 GE, 5 TB, and 5 VW.  I have had opportunities to get an SSD for $499 at Target.com and passed on it.  

 

I just think it is going to be a long while before lots of SSD's that are being snarfed up now will actually SELL for $650.  I mean after all, who is going to buy them for that price.  Certainly those that have bought a large inventory at $399 or less aren't going to.  It will be the NEW collector/investor of the future.  I can tell you this, if I didn't get one now, I certainly won't get one in the future (or may buy used ).  It will be much easier to sell sets of GE for $250-$350 than it will to sell SSD for $650 to $850.  A lot of new collectors will be able to afford $350 more than they will $650 - $800.  Just my 2 cents worth.  I would rather have 10 GE's than 4 SSD's which is the same  $ investested (or close enough).

 

Lastly,Anyone willing to trade me an SSD for 2 GE's and $100 or visa versa?

Don't get me wrong, I think some will sell but not the 100's or 1000's that investors have bought.  It could take a good 2-3 years before actual sales of SSD will be accomplished in the $800 range.  Just my opinion.  The SSD is certainly not going to be RARE for many many years.  Many people who do buy at high prices will not open them up either.  Only as sets are opened, do the remaining sets become rarer. But I assume you all know that.

well I just saw one sell for 690 Canadian with 40 dollars shipping on ebay. I think 800 by Christmas. Its just that kind of set imho

I think part of the reason investors held back at buying the SSD for $500 at Target is because of the thought that there would be more opportunities to buy it for $400 later.  More to the point, people believed it would come back in stock at LEGO Shop at Home.  It's crazy what the mind will do once you realize that you cannot readily buy something anymore.  I know as a buyer, if I know a set is gone, I often feel the urge to buy even if I had no interest in the set beforehand.  All of a sudden, you start realizing just how special a set really is.  As a seller, the set is worth much more than $650 to me.  I don't need the cash, so I will not be compelled to sell any of mine for quite a while.  I was busy with work the last month and missed out on buying more, otherwise I would have many more than I currently have (about 16 or so)...
