Does anyone have any good advice on how to remove a helmet from a minifig head?  My son shoved on a Kre-o Transformer helmet onto a Lego minifig head, and the fit is so tight I can't get it off no matter how hard I try.  Does anyone have any tips/tricks on the best non-destructive way to remove it?  I guess worst case scenario I can try to tear the Transformer helmet apart...  But that's a last resort.

This works most of the time. It worked when I had to remove a Best-Lock helmet from a Lego minifigure head.

You could try using a drop of oil (food oil) between the head and helmet to lower friction. And then use pliers to remove. If using pliers cover the tips of the pliers with something like a towel or cotton wool to avoid marking/damaging to the helmet (caused by the pressure)

I'll try the hot water method.   For the pliers method, how do I hold on to the head?  I'd need something with small enough grip on the head, but there's not much to grip other than the head cavity/neck stem?

Buy a new Lego head and throw the other away. Problem solved.

Okay sorry for the lack of update... I finally attempted it. Dunked the whole head in hot water for a couple minutes and then used pliers. Not too bad!
