While there is an increase in relevance, there is also in an increase in x wing sets and supply.  How many times has the x wing been done??  Twice as a UCS and too many times to count as various other size sets.  If someone wants a lego x wing the options are numerous.  Plus it is an almost guaranteed to be remade in the future. Either as a UCS or as a larger set. Any of which hurts the long term potential of red five.  There will always be a new xwing set in the future to lower red fives value.

The chance if the tumbler being temade in any format for lego is slim to none.  If you want a lego tumbler your options are almost non existent.

Thanks for the more accurate figures.  I have been adding all The tumblers into my cart that are available from sellers and have just been counting how many disappear per day.  Not the most scientific.

You may also need to consider the worldwide appeal of tumbler vs red 5. The ratio probably like 10:1 or even worse. Right now there are plenty of tumbler in the hands of speculators, and most of these sets will not be built for a very long time. Red 5 OTOH is probably going to be opened and built at much higher rate.

I am not convinced. The Red 5 is no doubt a great set. But Batman is right up there with Star Wars. I think the Nolan Series was epic and introduced the Superhero Genre back into main stream audiences. It will have a special place in all their hearts ... there is no doubt that the original Batman with the Dark Knight movies are some of the greatest Batman movies ever. Heath Ledger's Joker was simply amazing and will always be remembered ....

I think it's more just that fact that if you look at the forums these days, everyone is all about the Tumbler and stocking up. Whenever a batch goes up on Target, it goes away instantly, and those are probably not end users buying them. People are so focused on getting their hands on as many Tumblers as possible to resell. Part of it has to do with the fact that it disappeared a little quicker than expected. So the ratio of hoarders:endusers in my opinion would be higher for the Tumbler as opposed to the Red 5.

Not to take away from the Nolan movies in any way :)

The Dark Knight Trilogy is the equivalent of the Indiana Jones Trilogy of Back to the Future of the upcoming generation.  It is iconic, and something that reinvigorated super hero movies, along with X-men.  I am 34 and my generation and slightly younger probably watched that movie more times than I can count.  Yes, Star Wars has a larger appeal, but ten times larger.... I doubt that.  Star Wars maybe twice as large to three times as large at best.

Red 5 was hoarded quite heavily.  Just look at the number available on Amazon and Ebay.  Red 5 also had a larger market for hoarding, i.e. Star Wars fans AND Lego Fans.  While yes, Comic fans and Lego Fans would hoard The Tumbler, I do not believe it to be quite as high. And while completionists might feel the need to have Red Five and another UCS Xwing, the average person will be content to get whatever larger scale Lego xwing that is available at the time, whereas the Tumbler has minimal iterations.

According to Boxofficemojo.com, The Dark Knight (not adjusting for inflation) is the 6th highest domestic movie of all time (Episode VII is number 1), and the 16th Highest Worldwide (Episode VII sits at #3).  In terms of popularity, that is nothing to scoff at by any stretch of the imagination.  While Star Wars Merchandising assuredly outsells DC and Marvel merchandise, I doubt it is by 10 times.

Only time will tell, but I feel that Red Five may top out at around 500-600, where in that same time span, The Tumbler could hit 600-800 and potentially more.  Either way, both sets will earn money, just hard to predict which will make the most.

Nolan batman is up there with star wars? You are smoking something strong.

Iron man was the one that revived the superheroes genre, not batman. We have to work with facts, and box office figure is one of most objective gauge. In terms of scifi themes, it has to be star wars, marvel superheroes, superman and batman a distant third/fourth. And amongst batman fans, there are some who think the tumbler is never as classic as 7784 type of batmobile. I still have my matchbox toy bat mobile from 1980, and it has the cool batwing fin thingy at the back.

What is happening here? What it is ain't exactly clear.

Anyone manage to place any orders? I wonder if they were snapped up by one or two investors or whether their was only a handful because they didn't last long.

I have an order acknowledgement but don't have the funds to stockpile loads. Interesting to see how many others got.. might just be returns? or perhaps they are drip releasing them.

Bought 3 from smyths. It was back in briefly.

Edit: one order cancelled by smyths.

I was on my break at work and just quickly checked it on my phone at around 10.30 a.m. Came up with the blue 'add to basket' which was a welcome sight and managed to order 1. Like others have said, it's limited to one set per transaction. It's been back to sold out since shortly after ordering mine.

Interesting to know whether these were returns or a small batch from one of their warehouses. I seem to recall them sticking a pre order message on their site a week or two about additional stock. Either way it seems to be done again.

They are available now at my local Smyths and according to the website are available for delivery from the 26th -29th January.
