I think there will be plenty of newb "investors" that buy a ton at $300. Don't believe me, go read the town hall thread, tons jumped on board and prices kept climbing before eventually leveling out

my 2 cents.

first the license expired and with a new movie coming there was no desire to renew.  lego also wanted to unload them before the new movie and the classic batcave set release.  thus they stuck the retiring soon tag on it, knowing that would help it sell faster.

second the time it took to sell out after the retiring soon has a few causes.  first is there was a ton of fresh stock from a recent production run.  second everyone was burned out already from the holidays, and other retirements.  i suspect most of us burned a lot of our capital on DS, ISD, AT-AT ect.  not to mention many being burned out after the back and for of x-wing, PS, TB, and others.

now this means a lot of the final run ended up in the hordes hands, however it is unlikely it is significant enough to hurt the Tumblers long term potential.  Short term we will not see growth like HH or TH.  but long term horde stock levels are likely where they would have been had the Tumbler run its normal life and retired after two+ years. That would have been 2-4 more production runs and 10,000s in more stock circulating.

Well, Guess I'm Not going to return my open seals set from Target.:phew:

Target had 5000+  the day Retiring Soon was labeled in the US.

Gotta love Walmart's shipping practice! Just received 5 tumbler's all shipped without a box. Just slapped a label on them. They are beat up pretty bad!

I got 2 from Target a few weeks ago, both with open seals.  I returned both to the local store.  Then I just ordered 1 again from Target and just got today and seals are intact and box is in decent shape too.

I can't believe Walmart just slapped a label right on the Lego box.  That's terrible...

Can't you get everything ?

If not (lack of money), quick flip the tumblers and then buy the 79018...

Yeah, I only have so much to invest in legos a month. Sadly.

Hold up...did I just see the words "quick-flip" and "Tumbler" in the same sentence?

Unless you bought in very low or are willing to take a loss after shipping and fees, those words do not belong together.

How long do you plan on holding and what is the price on the Lonely Mountain?  If you can get it for close to $100 and want a quicker return I would buy Lonely Mountain.

I am willing to do either to make money. Though, specifically I thought the Lonely Mountain could be a flip with a small profit for both.

This is my recommendation to every new investor rushing to the scene:

Imagine a world without BrickPicker. One where people make simple decisions on their own.  In this world, one would choose which sets to buy and when to sell them, without help.  Are you going to make the right decision every time?  No, but you aren't going to anyway. But what you will have every time is more experience.  The people who have been the most successful at this had nobody to ask for help. Nobody to tell them how to do everything.  You'll be far better off in the long run if you don't let the majority make your decisions for you.

Too much hype around this set- too much attention: the result is anxious and ambitious investors hoping for a hefty payday. Well that may turn out to be disappointing for some. Very easy to buy- a much different animal to sell.

Pls b wrong pls b wrong pls b wrong labfreak7, there, I said it 3 times, no way you can be right now... [emoji6]

I hope I'm wrong

That is definitely a great point. I should go with my gut and see what happens. But, I will say I am very grateful for this website. I do have to learn about the art of a good deal and people on here clearly know more than most. I will also say in the limited time I've been on this website, this forum is much nicer than others that delve into toy collecting/selling. Others tend to shame people with a lack of knowledge or get angry when someone is trying to make money.

Indeed, no substuitute for experience, really.

I hate to pat us on the back but the tone of this website is thanks to the MODs and ADMINs. We don't put up with the typical internet BS garbage that pollutes todays interwebs. Trust me there have been schmucks who have tried that crap and they are gone just as soon as they signed up. This is a great community with great MODs and the only people who complain about us are the people who come in here and think they are gonna do and say want. Not gonna happen sorry not sorry.

I joined this forum simply because it definitely is more mature than most forums.  I feel the people here tend to be more intellectual with their posts and have actual THOUGHT with good debate points than just constantly ripping on people for "not reading the FAQ" and "why don't you use the search engine" responses that dominate other forums.

Even if people disagree here, it is with respect, and that counts for a lot.

Okay.....so here's what I got.  We just took delivery of 8 Tumblers from Target.  They came in gigantic brown boxes with Target tape sealing the flaps (unlike Walmart's shipping services).  I opened them up and..........got a mixed bag.  Some look decent and some have dings, dents, and creases (one is bad enough that I want to open it up and build it).  On top of that, some (most) have these stickers affixed to them (refer to pictures).  I wasn't too thrilled with how they looked, so I called Target and they gave me back 5% on all my orders.  Can't complain about that.  Yes, 10 would have been better.  But I don't mess with gift horses.

I've asked this question before under a different forum, but do the stickers, dents, and dings really matter?  The seals are pretty much intact.
