This thread will be like my previous builds (links below).

Intro :
While waiting for the missing 10173 elements to arrive, i decided to build 10125. It was recently picked up on eBay for $109 shipped (used, no box). The $179.99 set was introduced in May 2012 and consists of 2,127 elements including a R2D2 minifig that was recently refreshed.

The elements are in 15 bags.

For more pictures of the box, please refer to this review found on eurobricks.
http://www.eurobricks.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=69410

Like other builds, I'll will walk through the building process, take pics, discuss various topics like elements used / how, and provide a recap.

Bricklink's element inventory of this set is ...
http://www.bricklink.com/catalogItemInv.asp?S=10225-1
The 4 reddish brown "Hose, Flexible 12L with Tabbed Dark Bluish Gray Ends" elements are exclusive to this set and can cause some difficulty in bricklinking this set (usually costs about $2.50 -$4.. The UCS sticker sells for about $10. For more details about harder to obtain elements, refer to Grolim 's review.

Here is the Lego Designer video of this set.

I would really like to see that. I hate that R2D2 head full of acne...

Technic elements used for the inner body that will "catch" and "hold" R2's middle leg once built.

I love this thread. I have a couple of these but haven't built one, this thread is not helping me keep this NISB. :-) Really surprised at the variety of colored pieces, looks weird during the build but I can see why they do it.

Started the outer legs last night. I'll post pics of one leg since their builds are nearly identical.

A little off topic, but I've tried searching for LDD files.

Are there websites dedicated to those who not only MOC but use Lego Digital Designer?   :cheese:

Don't forget an extra 2x4 plate to raise the top sensor (where R2's radar dish usually comes out of). That would keep the same height ratio of it and surrounding elements,

This was a fun build for me.  I appreciated the different color bricks on the interior.  They stand out for ease of build and reduce the strain of constant white bricks.  It was a pain in the butt to get R2 to stand how I wanted him too...which is why I freak out when people want to pick him up and look at him!  But everyone who sees him is impressed.

How do you get the light kit?

I completed the build some days ago but haven't taken the "completed" pictures. Here are some leading up to the eventual final pictures.

I will admit, building it was a pleasant surprise. I had low expectations going into it. 10225 is def one of the fun builds available.

Bit late (only just saw this), but this is great! I love R2's model, except for the blocky/study-like head.

Now don't get me wrong i'm not against studs being visible, but R2's whole body is pretty much barren of visible studs. So to have a blockyish head with tons of studs was always a bit contrasting. I've placed an order for these parts and looking forward to rounding him out :)

Thanks!

really cool and classic R2D2. love it! thx for sharing.

  • 2 weeks later...

Finally got around to putting these pieces on to smooth the dome, looks great!

I believe however that the above list is missing two 1x2 dark blue tiles, and two 2x2 dark blue tiles (or whatever combination of plates you want to use) for the very top of R2's head.
