This is pretty much what I was imagining but some some 1x1 cheese slopes thrown it. Does look much better.

I love this thread. I have a couple of these but haven't built one, this thread is not helping me keep this NISB. :-) Really surprised at the variety of colored pieces, looks weird during the build but I can see why they do it. 

Started the outer legs last night. I'll post pics of one leg since their builds are nearly identical.

Don't forget an extra 2x4 plate to raise the top sensor (where R2's radar dish usually comes out of). That would keep the same height ratio of it and surrounding elements,

This was a fun build for me.  I appreciated the different color bricks on the interior.  They stand out for ease of build and reduce the strain of constant white bricks.  It was a pain in the butt to get R2 to stand how I wanted him too...which is why I freak out when people want to pick him up and look at him!  But everyone who sees him is impressed.

 

How do you get the light kit?

I completed the build some days ago but haven't taken the "completed" pictures. Here are some leading up to the eventual final pictures.

I will admit, building it was a pleasant surprise. I had low expectations going into it. 10225 is def one of the fun builds available.

Comparison of latest two R2 minifigs.  Too bad the recent R2 from the latest Sandcrawler & Ewok Village wasn't included in recent produced 10225s.

While I wait to apply elements to smooth out the dome (been sitting in a bag for 6 months), here's a "quick fix".

Now don't get me wrong i'm not against studs being visible, but R2's whole body is pretty much barren of visible studs. So to have a blockyish head with tons of studs was always a bit contrasting. I've placed an order for these parts and looking forward to rounding him out
