7939 and 7938 Near Retirement??

With the New Passenger and Cargo Train out in the wild these sets (IMO) have a very limited shelf life left.

Are the new ones better, perhaps.  But that is not the question to be asking.

If you can find a discount, can you make mad Lego cash on the retireing sets?

That my Lego friends is the question worth asking.

Lego is nearly sold out of both.  We have seen sets go from sold out directly to retirement.

I don't see a lot of business sense in keeping the old stock around for TLG.

For once Toys R Us does not have them in stock online.

BTW Walmart online still has both (7939 - 7938) in stock slightly less than retail +TAX...at those prices not a great deal

I do expect some appreciation from the Train collectors late to the game.

Probably not a double from current retail prices.  However if you were able to acquire your stock any of the times when they were on sale you should get a solid double 7939 (120 - 240.00), 7938 (85 - 170)

First price represents where I have seen them discounted too...second price is where I expect them to end up.

I might be underesstimating a little.  Not sure yet.

Has anyone noticed that Chinese sellers are flooding the market with these and Tower of orthanc. Almost every other listing is by a Chinese seller with 0 feedback ships from Sydney.  Anyone on here bought one of these:   http://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_from=R40%7CR40%7CR40%7CR40&_sacat=0&_nkw=lego+tower+of+orthanc&_sop=1  Also the auctions for 7939 have been rampant from these "sellers/scamers"  http://www.ebay.com/itm/LEGO-TRAIN-7939-Cargo-Train-NEW-fits-with-7937-Ship-from-Sydney-/221492232292?pt=Building_Toys_US&hash=item3391f74064

I haven't noticed this. Now I have, and I'm worried about the set. These Chinese fakes will destroy the value of the current sets and all hopes of making some money off of them.

I can't believe some of these seem to be growing. With the others coming out so quick, I thought they were done.

I bought 3 x red trains from amazon UK last November for $79 each. Sold all 3 for $179 each last month.

I don't know if there are full on fake versions of 7939 and Orthanc, that would seem a bit much, I think its more someone trying to scam but there have been the same listings from all these different sellers, but if you look at their items they are all the same, Tower of Orthanc, Cargo train, Some small model cars. There are like five or more sellers with the same list of items, its weird and has been going on for at least a week. http://www.ebay.com/sch/wujinyun4159/m.html?item=331261557470&hash=item4d20ba3ade&pt=Building_Toys_US&rt=nc&_trksid=p2047675.l2562 Oh and a Bwing also sometimes.

I could go on and on, they are really rampant.  I guess I am gonna have to buy one to find out what happens, just curious if anyone already has.

Sounds like my mail man.

I have had great dealings with some sellers out of China, but this seems fishy at best.

I think the exact same store/wording was also used on amazon.ca last week - in another thread someone bit on the $67 R2-D2.  I think it screams of disaster and left it.
