Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles - general discussion

So...it's been heavily rumoured that TLG will be producing a TMNT theme in the not-so-distant future! The latest article is here (It's French, so you might need to translate it): http://www.hothbricks.com/2012/09/lego-tmnt-encore-une-confirmation-pour-2013/ What do you think about the idea of a theme like that? I remember that the TMNT action figures a couple years back had HUGE collecting potential. I still have a big bucket of 'em in my basement! Do you think a LEGO theme will sell equally well? Are ya gonna invest in them? Or...do you think the whole rumour is false? Share your thoughts here!

Be awesome if they EOL right as the movie comes out.   I need a Megan Fox minifigure though. For science.

  •   Count me as one of them - I picked up two at $30 each at the Target clearance.  My first foray into Lego TMNT...and you never forget your first.

Two years after this theme has come and gone a lot of you will be wishing you bought more of these sets. While I haven't gone completely crazy buying them, I do have a decent amount of the first wave

My bets on the minifigs. Theres nothing I can associate with when it comes to the sets, but the main characters have been unchanged from what I remember as a kid (though no beebop and rocksteady). The importance of the weapons included are on par with the Jedis lightsabres in my opinion, and the unique shell/head pieces are just perfect.

You said it. The characters make the sets, the builds are whatever. Good parts though.

This is a tough call. There isn't much to go by to compare these sets to when trying to gauge how they'll fair once EOL. I will point out one thing of note: during the buy one get one 50% off sale currently underway at Toys R Us Ninja Turtles are expressly excluded from the sale. Could just be due to the fact that they're new releases for 2013, but it may also reflect popularity of the sets. Galaxy Patrol is also brand new and no such restriction was placed on them. Food for thought. Tread carefully though. Even if you personally love this theme you don't want to sink serious capital into it only to find you have another Atlantis on your hands a year from now.

Michael Bay just announced he is getting Megan Fox to Play April in the New Turtle Movie.

And now I suddenly want to see the movie haha ;)

Original theme song all the way! Fun Trivia = The co-writer of the 1987 theme song was Chuck Lorre, creator of Two and a Half Men and The Big Bang Theory! EDIT - The most recent theme pays homage to the original, so it gets points for that at least.

Really now....Didn't know that!

Yeeeaaah it starts out that way and makes you think "Oh cool", and then quickly goes to poop.

Another interesting fact is that the creators hated the cartoon series. Also Shredder was killed at the end of the first issue of the comics. I never understood how the TMNT were a parody of Daredevil.

I'm just gonna get the turtles for nostalgic reasons, maybe the other minifigs to. As for investing ...dunno I'm not an investor but the sets are bad.

The turtle shells are the coolest part of the sets.

The minifigs are cool, one review that keeps jumping out at me is the poor construction of the shellraiser. Apparently it falls apart easy if its moved, yet alone played w/.

That one struck me as wierd too, specially considering that these are meant to be played with from the start by kids. That's pretty bad when a grownup like us has any build fall apart just from looking at it funny.

My son was looking at a set today and I nearly had a heart attack looking at the price. For what you get in a set, it is atrocious. The figs all look awesome though, I mean, I want one of the Shredder ones myself!

Doesn't look the best, but at the end of the day she's still Megan Fox ;)

If this is for the Teenage ALIEN Ninja Turtle movie, I would not be surprised if at the end April turns out to be an alien with Dark Phoenix level of power :P

Megan Fox once said in an interview her grossest habit is that she sometimes forgets to flush after #2. Um.... that's disgusting. Get it together lady. My wife is easy on the eyes and I never walk into the bathroom and have to stare at a floater. Just saying....

I have never thought she was hot........doesn't she have toe thumbs or something crazy like that??

Oh lord.... Hot or not, that will kill any mood.

Yuck.

Come on, everyone poops. As long as they didn't just eat corn....

Andddd I'm officially no longer attracted to her.............

Well yeah everybody poops but not everyone wants to see it!

Two things to remember.

One, always put down the lid.

And two, always flush. (And flush a second time for courtesy if it's 'that bad'.)

The Shellraiser is a horrible set. I LOVE TMNT and am getting all the sets, but yeah. The shellraiser is fragile and poorly designed. :(

I think it will do fairly well. (At least with me!)

You never know. Themed sets can do very well as in STAR WARS/Harry Potter or not as in Prince of Persia/POTC. TMNT are geared towards kids, so if the Turtles make a huge comeback(say...the new movie coming out), I can see very strong sales for these sets. But if the new movie tanks and kids of today are bored with the Turtles, all bets are off. Overall, I like the theme's chances of being successful.

Then again the toy story 3 movie was a success however the lego market for them was beyond terrible

many people who see the movie probably wont even realize they make TMNT legos
