lets see that giant desert pig in lego form!

is it just me or does it look very CG?

even though its 'real'

or is it?

Are those podracer engines out there? There's the big obvious one, and then it seems like beyond the "cattle ranch"-ish gate in photo 14 there's two more crashed into/under the sand, Dud Bolt's and Ody Mandrell's podracer engines. It'd be surprising if it was, because that either means they actually saved those massive props for over a decade and a half or JJ Abrahms is trying to make podracing happen again.

Also "Phatooine"...wut.

We all knew that the MF was going to be in the new movie. I think part of they story will be that it will be damaged badly and had not been used for many years.

JJ Abrams is definitely trying hard to please the "OT is best T, practical effects 4 life" fans, especially through these "leaks". Besides the McQuarrie designs in the desert set, there was another comment on a different photo from the MF+X-Wing set that speculated that the X-Wing is either a) a McQuarrie style ship or b ) a Z-95 Headhunter (see: half pod engines, not full round engines, and a stubbier nose).

The recent official surge in interest in Ralph McQuarrie's artwork by Star Wars is both awesome and concerning at the same time. On one hand, McQuarrie's work is awesome, and it's pretty cool that the Rebels cartoon (and the new film) is paying lots of homage to that. Their official Facebook page also posts his artwork on "McQuarrie Mondays", so they're definitely very conscious about it. On the other hand, this is stale creative recycling, and it would be more than disappointing if all we end up seeing in the new film are more TIE fighters, X-Wings, etc.

hrm.. looking at those pictures, I can see they adjusted the "i" in the aurebesh alphabet.

:pushes up nerd glasses:

Perhaps you can't see it but it has a caption below. It says

It is both thrilling and surreal to start building in a couple of weeks and we look forward to bringing this new world to life, once again (in 1/48 scale).

Do I read this as large sets that are going to be mini figure scale like 10179?...

I don't really see your point here. The text in the book says the opening sequence of the movie "a long time ago, in a....

Are those dates referring to something special?
