So one thing Ed and I want to convey about Brick Classifieds is that... It is YOUR Store!!!  There will be a category structure that everyone follows and puts their items in, but overall it you will get to control many aspects of it.  It takes a little from eBay, a little from Bricklink/Brickowl, but still different.  Maybe like an Etsy but for LEGO.

 

Here are a few more features on how things will work or features that will be available to you.

 

1. Discounts and Promotions:  You will be able to run discounts and promotions on any aspect of your store.  Say you have a large inventory of #10179 MF and you want to unload a few.  You can specify a dollar or percent discount on that one product.  There will be a Promotions widget and links to view all vendors that are running specials.  You can run specials on the whole store, so if you say "oh screw it, I hate LEGO" and want to unload everything at 70% off, you can do that.  If you want to specify a special category, you can do that.  There are also quantity discounts.  If you say "Buy 5 Mr Golds, get the 6th FREE" you can do that as well    (Note, all these specials are things Ed talked about.  He is ready to unload   )

 

2. Buy from Multiple Vendors: You will have a cart.  You will be able to buy from multiple vendors in one shopping trip.  Buy 10 sets from Ed, Buy 50 from me, buy a few from TheOrkKing and screw it, buy a few minifigs from ComicBlast.  At the end you will get to select your shipping methods and see a grand total and pay once.

 

3. Instant Payouts: Ed and I are both fans of Paypal for its simplicity, security and options.  I really do not want to get involved with storing people's credit cards, going through PCI compliance and any other hassles involved with it.  The beauty of using Paypal is, it will allow us to do the multiple store checkout.  Once the payment is processed, each vendor will get paid their cut and start the transaction process.  Each person will be notified that they have an order and can start communicating and preparing their shipments.  Later when we start to include fees, the nice part for everyone is, is that all fees will be taken care of, right there at the transaction.  All sellers will get their money and we will get our commission.  It speeds up the process and we will not have to hire a hitman to collect for us.

 

4. Sell MOC designs/digital downloads: Those that don't care about buying and selling sets, but are builders and designers will have a category for yourself to showcase your designs and sell the instructions. Buyers will be able to pay for your instructions.  Once they pay, they will be able to get a download link to obtain the instructions and any other documents that you need to give.  Basically just ZIP everything up and upload to the system.  Everything else will be taken care of.

 

 

So there are a few more features, I hope this works for most of you.  I am sure everyone may not care or be happy. But I think most will be ok with it.

I don't want to give you a concrete answer on this yet.  Ed and I have talked about it.  With a name like Brick Classifieds, it will be tough to attract people for Transformers and other brands.  A possibility though is that we can roll out new sites for other brands or a mix of brands.

We have discussed it and there is a possibility.  Jeff has come up with a really cool way to categorize things, so it might work with no LEGO items as well.

Overall i don't see anything wrong with allowing that possibility.  Once everything is up, running smoothly and people are hopefully satisfied, then we can start seeing how many people are interested in offering other items.  It would not be for just any type of item, but again, we will cross this path when the time comes.

This Christmas would be strictly to other members through classifieds because even if it goes up today it won't have a customer base. eBay is your best bet if you want this Christmas but by next Christmas I could see Classifieds as being a nice avenue to unload some sets.

They will probably be released to the Mods at some time this week, then to the general site members after some troubleshooting.  But if you want to sell something immediately, eBay would be a good option.

From what Jeff told me, the Beta version is done. Just some cleaning up and adding of terms of use type of stuff. It is important we get this major feature right the first time.

I'm looking forward to this as I trust this community a lot more than eBay and no doubt Ed/Jeff have done a superb job as always.  Also, I'd rather give BP my fees than eBay.

Like Ed said, I am just cleaning up, moved it to it's production server. Getting rid of all the garbage test data and accounts.  Trying to fill in the blanks and format all the BS pages like privacy policy, etc. 

 

Later today I may write up some details on how the classifieds will be different.  I broke away from the conventional Theme/Category setup to allow it to grow on it's own and not constrain it to be any certain way.  Anything LEGO related can be posted.  If you have LEGO toilet paper, you can post it and tag it that way and it will be able to be found.  LEGO displays, books, posters, etc.  It is not just going to be broken down by theme, set number, etc.  I look at it like a classifieds or a flea market or something.  I will go into more details on this later.

 

The one thing we did choose to go with is that we will be using Paypal Adaptive payment checkout.  Buyers will be able to purchase from up to 9 different vendors at one time (Brick classifieds is actually the 10th vendor once a fee % is factored in).   All will be paid at one time in one shot.  There will be no billing.  Ed and I will not be hunting down people for lack of payment, etc.  Once your items sells, a fee will be collected and everyone is happy.  Again, I will get into more details on this later, i need to leave for work now woohoo!!

Not only do I get the pleasure of knowing my money isn't going to Ebay and Amazon, but to know it is going back to the BP founders/community makes it all the better. Keep'on innovating.

Well here is a quick update.  Ed and I are working through looking over the site right now together.  He is working on editing content about the rules of the site and FAQ type of questions.  I believe probably tomorrow will finally be the day that the mods and maybe a few others will get their hands on it to help look for some final bugs and solicit feedback.  As of right now, we are looking to kick off the New Year with launching this to everyone. Why not start the year off with something new and interesting.  Here is a screenshot of where we are at right now.

 

 

 

The overall setup that this site is taking is that it will be just like a "classifieds" or even a flea market.  There will not be a true category structure like you see on Bricklink or Brickowl.  It will be more tag based where it will be up to the community to help place their items in the areas that they feel may work for them.  This will really keep it to be a wide open marketplace that anything LEGO related will be able to be posted.  No waiting for us to update categories or sets.  I will release more details and screenshots over the coming days, but I just wanted to get it out there that the end is near and time to move forward.

If you are talking about BrickTrader which is the trade section of this forum, no there will be no more than what you currently see.

 

If you are talking about Brick Classifieds which is the new product/website, that dashboard will record all of your sales.  Linking that to your Brickfolio will eventually happen.  There will also probably be a way to automatically post an item from the Brickfolio to Brick Classifieds. There is no ETA on this yet.  Things will be great when i get a chance to work on that, but for now we need to launch that product, get it in the hands of all of you and make sure it's running correctly.  Then we can start to add on more of these types of features.  But yes, that is something that I would like to make happen.
