I have recently tried to sell a near complete 7735 for maybe an optimistic price.

The offers I got were derisory but one of the reasons someone said their offer was low (ie half price) was that it did not come with a 12v transformer.

 

Does any one know if this set came with a transformer? Its not in Peeron.com's part listing.

 

I think no and lego forced you to also buy set 7864

    this review from 2010 states the 12v speed regulator / transformer had to be purchased separately.
