A colleague of mine has both these sets sealed in box. Some storage wear. These sets are cool with the flap design. A check on BL shows not many for sales and not much price history info available. 5976 is the River Expedition. 5986 is the Amazon Ancient Ruins. 5986 new price is nuts! What would be a decent list price if to sell

Thanks for the feedback. I picked it up, comes free with dust. As a bonus comes with a box. This thing is huge! Some washing to do, then build it up and decide whether to keep or sell.

Is there any rumors this is going to be reissued? I have a chance to get a used set for €400 with instructions. Just wary that this will be like Taj Mahal and a new one is reissue. And is there any special pieces I should look out for?

The price in the local craiglist equivalent (Marktplaats) has gone down significantly. Down to €700-750 for a new sealed in box. I was very lucky to sell two used sets for €650 few months back...that was a 70% ROI as I bought them used and hold for few months. Now, I won't touch it even at that buy-in. Just too risky and money better spend for smaller sets. Granted, an AFOL still won't touch a fake as I have sold one to a AFOL.

Not too bad considering it's retired. This could be had when in retail for close to €200 or slightly below. I don't think you'll get much profit for a 6-7 months hold. This has likely been hoarded. Are you happy with 20-30% return? Else build it if you didn't have one yet. It's a very enjoyable build.

Indeed. Seller also has SOH in a lot. I guess only a reseller would buy a lot but the listed price is too high.

Going to leave this here, though it is not ebay but Marktplaats (Craiglist equivalent). Had a buyer showing me the toy store link to a now retired product I listed, and demanding me selling him the RRP. Patiently explained to him it can't be bought in toy store anymore or even online internet store is selling 30% above my listed price. In fact my price is in the ballpark of other offers. Buyer retorted that it could still be bought in physical store and name calling (Thief) p/s: Mod if it is not allowed to leave the name, I'll delete it.

If one has a big stash, perhaps it's time to de-risk and keeping a no. of sets for potential future rise...it's all dependent what is the person risk appetite. To the poster initial question, at the current buy in price it would probably too risky to hope for a 2x current buy in.

This set is listed for €700 to €800 range here in Netherlands. If you considering rrp it is already 2x. Will it go higher and how high is the question. The price as I've seen last 6 mths or so here didn't move up a lot. Talk of breaching €1000 never materialise. I came out of my dark age late. Perhaps some veterans can chime in on the price movement...I doubt you can get €1400 in 2 years assuming you buying a MISB set at €700 and that provided you can find one at that price.

Indeed...the Dutch market works very different. But it's a no fee market on MP so the price is probably about the same if compare to ebay. Just need to be patience and sell at right price. I sold an AT-AT for €220.

42039 is a great set. Unfortunately too widely available and at good discount. Probably will end up with the same fate of 42000.
