  1. Just like you don't wear a mask to protect yourself necessarily, you wear a mask to protect others from yourself potentially being infected/asymptomatic - you take the vaccine not necessarily to prevent getting infected, you do it to help create herd immunity which leaves the virus with less targets to jump to, which causes it to die down and hopefully not infect those who are too frail to get the vaccine or at risk for getting severe side-effects from an infection.

  2. Well, how about this...my personal experience. Twice in the past month, a family close to me (lube manager, business partner) had Covid enter their home. One from a kid's playdate and another thru work (my business partner's son is electrician. He is 24). In both cases, the one person from each family that came back Covid negative had the vaccine (one nurse, my business partner who is 65). The others (including kids) all got pretty sick and still have issues weeks later. Coincidence? Maybe, but I would like to think that the vaccines not only stop the worst symptoms, but help stop it altogether.

  3. Built the Mars Exploration Rover 7471 that I bought NISB for under RRP. It was built over few weeks, few hours each time. Got to say the build is definitely not for kids as majority are Technic parts. End result is fairly impressive.

  4. It's not mob mentality to listen to epidemiologists about taking a vaccine. It's not political. It's about drowning out the virus before new variants emerge because people went with their gut, their preference, or their facebook research and we all end up locked down for another year. Listen to doctors, get the &*/$&# shot.

  7. The second dose of of Pfizer rocked me for about 24 hours a couple of weeks ago, similar to what @exciter1reported. I'd estimate that for every one of us that felt sick, there were three of my fellow teachers who had mild to no side effects from the second dose. Regardless, anyone who is on the fence about getting the shot b/c you don't want the side effects, they are well worth it compared to what the real deal can do to you...I was able to hang out with my Grandma for Easter, that alone was worth it. Stay safe and keep getting vaccinated BP'ers!

  8. Right, that's what is so tricky with this virus. Some people have zero symptoms, while others die or have a real hard time with it. I respect it, but don't let it rule me. I have been dealing with thousands of customers a week (wearing a 3M shield) since this all started and the vaccine at least gives me a little piece of mind after a year of worrying daily. I am a 53 year old man with 53 year old issues, so who knows how I would react. If was was 18 again and in great shape, I would say "F" it. I am not and I have a family to look out for. I speak to hundreds, if not thousands of people weekly and hear many stories, both good and bad. I am like a bartender, so if can pass along some good advice, I will. Stay safe...

  10. That is correct...No foolproof, but close. This recent real world study by Pfizer on some of the original essential workers to get vaccinated shows 90% effectiveness at stopping the virus completely. 10% can still get it and some may die. Here is the study... https://www.cdc.gov/media/releases/2021/p0329-COVID-19-Vaccines.html

  11. For those curious of the reactions; The Pfizer vaccine contains approximately 30 ug (micrograms) of vaccine in each shot. Each Moderna shot contains 100 ug. This is why many more people have expressed more symptoms for the Moderna shot and has reported the most reactions (allergic and fever related) The J&J single shot contains more ug of vaccine of both Pfizer and Moderna vaccines, but it does not use MRNA like the other two, rather uses viral vector vaccine technology similar to that of the ebola vaccine. J&J modified the common cold virus to be harmless and also encoded the Covid spike protein to train the Immune system. All quite fascinating to me really.

  12. It's been business as usual here. We still haven't been eating in restaurants and such, but we still go out, run errands, Wal-Mart, grocery stores, etc. We have even had a few vacations to the beach during the pandemic. My son and I went to see "The Empire Strikes Back" during it's theater re-release (then Regal closed). The kids have participated in classroom learning all year, but had to wear masks all day. We have anti-maskers, no cover nose maskers, face-shield maskers, and bandana maskers around here, but we've been careful to be as safe as possible and also continue to live our lives. We don't go out of our way to visit people and have cancelled a few family gatherings this year, but all in all, we've stayed safe.

  13. Getting my J&J one and done shot tomorrow. Since I already had Covid, my doctor considers that my first inoculum. Lots of anecdotal evidence of people who've already had Covid getting knocked on their ass by the second shot. Glad I was able to reserve a spot at Walgreens. Hopefully they'll have their act together...

  14. reserved pfizer and J & J vaccines. made myself miserable debating the merits of each one endlessly. Finally chose pfizer. Unfortunately, Walgreens was total amateur hour. took 3 hours to get it. feel fine. after wasting all that time would have chosen j & j if i could do it again.

  17. LOL...Dr. Ed to you. I am a science guy. Yes, I fear the future side effects of this new technology. One major issue that I read about is cancer and how this vaccine will disrupt the body's immune system fighting it. I'm sure there are other issues as well. With any sort of medication, there is nothing without side effects. Even aspirin gives people ulcers. That being said, what I have witnessed over the past year with regards to people getting sick and the mental stress it is putting people under (including myself and my family), I believe it is worth the risk. Many people and their kids have lost a year of life in many ways. Not seeing friends, family or going to school or work is life changing. We are social animals. This is a wicked disease and the politicians and media outlets that have weaponized it to remain or gain power should go to Hell. Whether the vaccine is safe or not, whether it works or not, time will tell. But to me and my family, it has given us a little more positive outlook and hope that we can all get back to normal. I miss going to swim practice and eating at Red Lobster. Sounds silly, but I am willing to take a leap of faith and give it a shot. I mean how bad can it be? After my first shot, my private parts got bigger and I could read minds. That's pretty cool.

  18. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe the largest risk factors for hospitalization and death are obesity and age, which really has nothing to do with the virus at all. #EatasaladAmerica

  20. alright, declined the $550 offer on the 3 pooh's. regret set in.. got another offer for $500 and countered with $635- declined lol. not scared after seeing these offers. i think this is a hold till I get $600 for the 3, which could be very soon. if you have these, i think keeping them wrapped in the original cardboard is the best route to go for the ultimate collectors. all bids are coming from tech areas in cali. these kids have money...

  21. I went to the beach. The masks outdoors is just overkill in my mind, but I have had 2 doses of Moderna onboard for 2 months now. Mask compliance on the Boardwalk was around 98% which was shocking and even those not wearing them properly had them. Last summer when things were worse mask compliance was around 50% at best. Amazing how you can change human behavior. Look at that beautiful clean Atlantic Ocean

  23. also less rolls of the dice for the virus to mutate into something worse...which will impact EVERYONE in a real bad way
    1 point
  24. yes; many don't fully understand the scale Covid has hit the world. Pretty much ANY medical treatment will not be 100%...so since there are literally 100s of millions going thru this, there will be some small number of the population that fall "victim" to the 1% or so. same thinking goes into the variants issue we all see in the headlines...typically viruses mutate all the time w/ very few ever being meaningful...yet again with 100s of millions getting infected, it makes that low chance come into fruition...this is the downside to so many getting infected...each infection is a roll of the dice of a super mutant being formed...roll that dice a billion times and voila...extinction event pandemic is around the corner.

  26. Since the Moderna vaccine is essentially equivalent to Pfizer with more than triple the viral load, the government has asked Moderna if they could decrease the viral load with the same results in order to to create more vaccines. Moderna has agreed to begin feasibility testing.

  28. I got the Pfizer first dose a couple weeks ago...I was the guy looking like an idiot doing dips on the waiting chair for the 15 min observation period...read an article that exercising the arm after the shot helps. Anyway, arm was mildly sore towards the end of the day and that was it...but that was just the 1st dose, which is typically mild anyway. Just glad to see folks here getting the vaccine...

  29. Well, I don't think we'd have any paper trail as to where it actually delivered, only where it should have delivered. Would be nice though, or if USPS took pics like Amazon. I do know the seller is typically off the hook once the tracking says Delivered, but I hadn't considered who's on the hook if USPS (allegedly) acknowledged misdelivering.

  31. I totally agree. These mgrs are running with formulas and not paying attention to the spirit of the game. Nolan Ryan was 44 when he threw his last no hitter, which was a complete game. I would love to see more of that. I suspect the pitchers would too.

  32. As far as I'm concerned they (All of MLB) have been prematurely pulling all starters for the last 10 years or so. These guys can go 9 innings. They can throw 140+ pitchers per game. They can have 240+ inning years. Instead they're coddling them and pulling them out earlier and earlier. I know it's early but no starter has thrown more than 86 pitches yet this season. When was the last time you did something less and got better at it? Worked less and endured longer? Last Mets gripe: Start Pillar over Dom Smith? That was a mistake. And one highlighted by that inning ending double play Pillar ground into.

  33. I saw this quote from twitter: "Jacob deGrom now has a 2.07 ERA since 2018 and the Mets are 36-41 in his starts." 2018-2020 ERA was 2.17 so the source is including this first game. How is deGrom still with the Mets? It has to be depressing to throw that good and still lose all those games. The article I read said his avg pitch speed was over 97 MPH. His fastest was 102 MPH. When I hear stats like that I think of another pitcher who started with the Mets: Nolan Ryan. It is a shame the Mets don't have the mgr or the team Nolan Ryan was part of.

  35. This is why you need to have insurance and a paper trail from USPS showing where they delivered it to. Until your product is in the hands of the customer, you're on the hook. When I use USPS if there is any delay or the tacking isn't updated for several days I initiate a "where is my package?" claim. It is funny how quickly the package ends up in the right place when you do that. Otherwise, think about it from the customer standpoint: They ordered a product which they claim never arrived; do you think they will want their money back?

  36. After waiting an additional 4 days to finally see the Mets opener they are exactly the same team they've been the last several years. Typical deGrom start. Mets anemic offense cannot score. (deGrom had to knock in a run, fss). Bullpen gags yet again. Allows 5 runs in the 8th. Mets pretend to try and score in the 9th. Fall flat on their faces. It's gonna be a long typical Mets season.

  39. I agree about the emphasis on specialized pieces. The most enjoyable builds remain the ones where stacking bricks is the majority of the process.

  40. I built Pooh. I parted out the minifigs so the set was basically free, but it seems overpriced at $99 for what you get. The instruction book is done nicely with the classic Pooh illustrative motif, although it doesn’t come bagged and mine was ripped. Mix of printed elements and stickers. My main issue is more with Lego in general but this set maybe where they jumped the shark. It used to be neat to build a set with mostly square bricks and see the various building techniques used to make all kind of shapes and nice finished products. This set uses so many specialized elements some larger with only one point of attachment that it just seems too easy to get the end product. It also has one baffling part that I went and watched some live builds to see what others opinions were. If they give R2 a total redesign I think my point will be very evident in that set.
