  1. arrived today, this is for my older daughter (and I suspect for wife as well)

  2. I'd just open it and make sure it's legit. The lost value of being open is minimal.

  3. That was my initial reason too, to start with LEGO investing/speculating. With interest on savings at the bank being below 1% it's not even hard to get a higher ROI on LEGO sets. But it also awoke the AFOL lurking inside me, waiting to make me come out of my LEGO Dark Ages. So now I'm both buying for myself, for my own collection, and to earn a higher interest in my savings.

  4. Didn't buy it today but finally came in the mail! My helicarrier! Used about 100 dollars worth of points on it. In the process of moving and 1/4 of my hoard is behind my sofa at the moment lol...

  6. I know someone asked about this the other day. Confirmed

  7. I am expecting this set to have 3-5 years product life. It may still be too early to pull the trigger.

  8. Let's put it this way... if I had to buy this older set I would probably buy with more confidence if the box had been opened for the purpose of making sure manuals and sealed bags were all there and intact

  9. Echo that. Open it but leave the bags sealed. An opened box, sealed bags set for a long-since-retired set like GG is not going to make any difference when trying to sell - at this point people buying from you are more than likely buying to build, so they'll open anyways, and if you post pictures with the bags displayed they will have confidence they are not getting a bricklinked or tampered-with set. Separately, since you've purchased already, care to mention the price you paid (and how this relates to the current AUD selling prices)? I'm hoping you really got a steal.

  10. Do I understand this correctly that an honorable brickpicker left a lone copy for little Timmy and you just grabbed it? Anyway, this sounds like the deal of a lifetime. Congratulations!

  12. Oh wow. I would be so jazzed if Lego remade this with the upcoming movie as an excuse for doing so. My dream set!

  13. Getting for 33% off this set is easy in the US. Simplest way to do it is to buy it in Thursday's from TRU to get the 10% discount from the TRU credit card, then use the 20% off coupons which pop up sporadically, and then pay a portion of it with a TRU gift card which you can get on eBay for 15% off from time to time. Depending on state taxes, you can bring down the all in cost to about $100 give a take a few dollars. I unfortunately bought several of these, but now which I had just waited longer. Was always fearful the 10% Thursday's and 20% off coupons would dry up, but that doesn't seem like it will be the case anytime soon. At least it's not like IR. I have 6 of those and bought them all at an average buy in of $110. Now you can find them for $95. Oh well...

  14. 67% RRP means a 33% discount. It's better than I've ever seen it sold for here in The Netherlands. Currently Amazon Germany is selling it for ~ €116 which is about 28% discount on an RRP of €160. So 33% discount is already cheaper than what I paid for the 75105 last year when I bought one for myself (€121, or 24% discount). Oh well, c'est la vie. At the time I thought it was a really good deal, but I had just started with LEGO investing that time. What did I know about prices and how much discount is possible when you're patient? And that's where the experience of long-time Lego investors comes into play: knowing what discounts are feasable and when is the best time to strike. Ultimately it's the gamble when you see a discount: is this the best deal I'll ever have on it, or will it get even more discounted? And if you wait too long you may not get that deal any longer and you'll finally have to buy at a higher price. I'm sure every LEGO investor here has bought sets when they thought the discount wouldn't get any deeper, and then they saw the same set at an even higher discount a while later. Keep in mind that people love to show off and tell here about the awesome deal they scored, but will rather keep quiet about the mistakes they made. Returning to your question: should you purchase 75105 now at 67% RRP, is something you have to decide for yourself. Other Brickpickers here won't buy non-exclusives at less than 40% discount, but that's their choice/strategy. This set will not retire any time soon, but if you don't mind holding it for a few more years knowing you got it at a decent discount, then it may be worth it for you.

  17. It'll work online, too, though it says with some restrictions. There's an early ad scan here- http://www.totallytarget.com/2016/06/09/sneak-peek-target-weekly-ad-scan-for-612-618/3/- promo code LEGO. Some sets are priced lower online than in store right now- for example, Avengers Tower is $59.99 in store, but $48.99 online.

  18. Honestly, this is why I drop everything off in person at the post office and get a receipt. Just don't trust carriers to get it right everytime.. I do live 1.5 miles from my PO, so it is convenient for me. It may not be so for others.

  19. For fellow Belgians: I just came back from my weekly round of toy stores to check for discounts. At Dreamland they are having a -40% clearance on selected sets. I scored a couple of battle droid troop carriers and two city superpacks. Total discount was over 100€ so well worth it. Second store I went to had everything swiped, but I checked out what was supposed to be on the clearance shelves: Minecraft stuff, City Police, City Deep Sea Exploation and some Star Wars.

  20. If you want to make more $, sell them individually - but if you insist on making less $, then sell them as a group. If you are simply looking to move them quick, and have no real interest in LEGO, a group auction might be able to gain some decent interest.

  21. It must be a pricing error on the website. In the physical store the prices are unchanged, i.e. still 10% above RRP.

  22. It's also gotta be mentioned that the end value of any item is relative to the market you're selling it in. In 5 years time if both sets are retired and you're selling both in the UK, I'd guess the TB is going to be more popular. If you're selling down in Aus, I'd guess the SoH will net the bigger payout. If you're selling either in the US, it's anyone's guess! Moral of this message is keep your end-game target market in scope!

  23. If the store is dodgy, open it up after paying for it. They won't be able to accuse you of replacing the contents that way.

  24. Also, and others can back me up here.. there were definitely more than 10,000 produced, and I've seen a post suggesting a certificate in the 19,000 range.

  28. Well let's assume you didn't miss something as obvious as scotch tape holding the box shut (or your buyer is an idiot and doesn't understand what a LEGO factory tape seal looks like). By the indignant tone of the email, sounds like she knows she's scamming you, and has clearly pulled this trick before. Out of curiosity, is this a set where the minifigures are of any significant value that's worth this effort?

  29. you are 100% correct its a BS. but there is nothing we can do. and seller support of Amazon is pretty much worthless... all portion of business including A-Z and support is out-sourced. and you will be lucky to find a decent english speaking person there. two things: 1. did you purchase insurance on this (i mean separate insurance)? i know its $50 USPS for priority but note the tricky part if the tracking shows delivered and customer claims not received then USPS doesn't pay the claim. it will be denied.. if you have insurance then you can play the wait and watch game i.e. if the customer claims non-receipt you can file insurance and see if you get paid. 2. do you have signature confirmation? that's the only thing AMAZON considers as proof of delivery. and i have had A-Z (against me) even when i had signature and in those cases USPS ended up footing the bill because i "buy insurance" if the answer to (1) and (2) both are NO. then a. send message to customer that the item has already been shipped via USPS. they should refuse delivery and not accept delivery. if they accept the delivery then they will have to pay for the return shipping and yada yada. see how it works....

  33. Good news for me because i didn't have a Chewie Mask yet and finished off another 3 complete disney minifigure sets. The tracker is showing between 1 and 4 of Chewie Masks at 80% of the targets within 100 mile radius so yeah there is a mild restocking at hand. that might not be good news for those holding but still, 21 sold already today alone on ebay with price trending towards $54 so the demand is still outstripping supply (apologies for non-LEGO content).
