  1. Seems like Lego probably wouldn't ban you for buying multiples in this case. Unless the move from limit 2 to limit 5 is some sort of trick? Anyway, I plan on buying several of these to create my 'West Coast Container Port Dockworker Strike Logjam' diorama. Labor unrest completionists will definitely want a couple of these.

  7. BIG UPDATE: alright everyone. below is a list of prize structure and confirmed teams. one thing that I would REALLY appreciate is if you use your names on brickpicker as your team names. it just makes my life a bit easier. I have 15 teams. as in people who said I want in. im sure one or two will fall off the earth as always does. we can have a max of 20 teams so their are still slots for anyone who wants in. EVERYONE in the league is a brickpicker memneber, without further to do here are the people in : myself (hxckid88) Huskers1236 redghostx derek ( who are u btw on here) Nickkim38 stoltzjl77 trekgate502 boxofcorey loki1244 jaxman pcaster vexxet sroster cbenioff Buy in is $70.00. Prizes ( retirement or availability have 0 affect. prizes stated are what you will get as in it dosnt matter if death star retires tomorrow or never, grand prize sis as stated.) 1st prize - NISB Death Star 10188 2nd place - $ 150.00 giftcard to your place of choice. ( yes I am willing to do multiple places for a total of 150.00 if you so choose.) 3rd prize will go to the team with the best overall record during the season. This team will receive their 70.00 back. so, technically you can win a death star and your money back. Now, whether I send you a death star from my stock or I send you one from amazon or lego will depend on how far you lve from me and the availability at that time. shipping is on me of course. you win a death star, straight up. Now the tricky part here is coming up with a time and draft day.... I will get in touch with all of you soon in regards to sending payment. There will be a deadline for payment. Im not chasing or hounding people down. with all that said. post thoughts. pm me. etc. Go O's and whoever the hell is on my team this year.

  8. So seeing I got to leave the warehouse early from our lovely snow situation in *** I decided to start this. After doing the Imperial Shuttle last week I have to say this is a breeze so I guess that's why the set gets a little less love than others. I still like it but I breezed through Bags 1-5 in under 2 hours. So for $200 I guess a 4 hour build might be a little less than desirable. I do like it though, mainly because I like X-wings in general but can see better why the set might not of been the best seller. The shuttle was much more complex price point wise. It is a 1000 pieces larger than Red 5 but had a lot more to it I guess. Think the sets with numbered bags are much easier as a whole than the older ones that required sorting and such. Gotta say I'm hooked on building these UCS sets lately. Never was a huge builder just mainly reseller and been enjoying them. Biggest decisions is what's next. I brought 4 things home (Helicarrier, Red 5, Town Hall that came in on Amazon load in bags lol, and a Tumbler). Chose Red 5 first mainly because I enjoyed the shuttle so much and was in the SW mood I guess.

  9. We both agree that money will not be lost on investing on the Sea Cow or the Fairground Mixer. The question that Ed asked was what would you invest your money in, if you're taking it out of SSDs. I'm thinking long term, not short term investments. I do agree with you that short term, this is not the place to put your money. I will also agree that ToO is a good set to invest in, and buying 4 ToOs with the money from 1 SSD is not a bad thing at all - if you sell SSD at $750, invest another $50, you've taken $450 and turned it into an $800 investment quickly. When both were available at RRP, I considered which was the smarter investment - 2x ToO or 1x SSD. Although I put the money into an SSD, I seriously considered 2x ToO to be the better investment long term. To answer your question about the Sea Cow and Fairground Mixer, I will use one set to answer both of these questions: 10196 - Grand Carousel Sea Cow - I didn't like it; until I saw it in person. Then I was blown away. This set is flying under the radar IMO. It's routinely hard to find, and routinely sells above RRP on eBay. Ship completest will want it. Lego Movie completest will want it. It's honestly a really awesome looking ship. I'm not a ship collector at all, but I have one in my personal collection (not yet built), because it's just that darn cool looking. Sea Cow and Grand Carousel were both $250 RRP. I remember looking at the GC, loving it, but never buying it (I was still in my dark ages). I remember thinking, "who would pay $250 for a LEGO set?" Eight of them sold in January on eBay, with an average price of $2,100. Nearly 10x RRP. Am I suggesting that the Sea Cow will hit 10x RRP? Of course not. But I do think that these sets are very similar in appeal, value, and availability. Fairground Mixer - you ask the question, "who is your target buying audience for that?" Let's the the obviously out of the way first - the same people who would by GC. But, it goes beyond that. LEGO Group clearly thinks there is a buying audience - we've got a new Ferris Wheel coming out later this year. Those two sets will compliment each other very well. On top of that, you've got the Joker's Funhouse set (retired last year), Joker's Bumper Car (2015), and the new Jokerland sets. Together, that's a pretty decent "county fair" theme without even trying. Maybe that's a stretch for most people. It works for me. But, I think the FM is another set that is undervalued and underhoarded at this time. It's another set that's flying under the radar. And, if TLG is starting another major, yearly theme (a la Modulars), then FM is the first of the theme.

  14. I personally feel that the prizes should equal(or close to) what the pay-in is. We need to decide what the prizes are up front and get them purchased so winners know what they are getting. I could see the prize money being a little less than the total buy-in for shipping fees/effort, but not several hundred. IMO, prize structure should be something similar assuming 14 teams: 1st - 450 2nd- 250 3rd- 150 Regular season champ - 70 This way the guy rounding everything up and shipping gets a little something for the effort and if he needs to ship something out of his pocket there's some funds there to do it with. If he can dropship everything, more power to him. I have no problem with double dipping. If you were that dominant that you are the regular season winner and win the playoffs, you deserve it. Probably won't happen, though. Guys that weren't in the league last year, I led almost wire to wire the regular season last year. Got to the playoffs, lost both games, ended with my $25 bucks back. Anybody can win once the playoffs start.

The only things I buy from TLG are exclusives I can't get on discount anywhere else anyway, and occasional clearance. Taxes I pay are refunded to me when I file my state sales tax returns. Whether I'm getting a 4.8888877329238938024839043% discount or 5% doesn't matter. In 20 days, whether I'm getting a 9.99023493890243241% discount or 10% won't matter, either.

  26. This belief along with other odd anomalies I have seen in the last few months has my faith in lil plastic bricks dwindling by the day. If I had to invest SSD money in something that is easily attainable today I'd go with Ghostbusters, FM, and Sea Cow in that order. I wouldn't touch RI because the other turds who bought a few k will hold price down until they are completely out (probably at least 2 yrs now) just like they did with the WM Landspeeder.

  33. I would recommend that once you have collected the $1050 you purchase the prize sets with those funds and treat those seperately. No need to comingle with your own sets. You could issue prizes based upon the current retail value of the sets. 1st place Death Star 2nd place Tower Bridge 3rd ToO 4th Palace Cinena. Something like that. And use the entry money for shipping, no need to use your own funds. My two cents.

  34. That sounds like a pretty good harvest! But darn, you had to survey about 10 Walmarts to find all this, I think it's very well deserved. I might check some Walmarts in eastern Montreal again in the coming days. I buy for partout but I'm already somewhat well stocked from the TRU sale.

  36. You should try and decide what primarily attracts you to Lego. If your first love is building and displays of built sets, then you need to build it. If your first love of Lego is the investing side, then keep it sealed, pack it up and don't look at it until you are ready to sell. There is no incorrect answer as it is a matter of preference. The factual part is that there will be other opportunities to make money or you can wait and hope to find a used one in the future. Ex Astris, Scientia. All prices in US funds.

  39. Nope, there was lots of wailing once TRU coupon wording changed. But all the wailing was in daily deals thread - if I remember right, you are not monitoring those. We even used to have current TRU coupon pinned to the top post of daily deal threads (which, I am sure, contributed to the ultimate demise of the usefulness of TRU coupons with regard to Lego) Clearence-related TRU coupons usually don't exclude lego, at least not yet

  45. I think there is too much analysis going on here. It's really not that complicated. LEGO has a production plan for every set. Most follow that plan within a couple of months of the original dates. If it is a more popular set like the HH, it will sell out before the original date was reached. If it is an unpopular set, it could last well past the original retirement date. The unpopular and poor selling sets will see "Retiring Soon" notices or possible discounts. That being said, sometimes there are outliers in the system...Sets that either sell very, very well and production runs are extended or on the negative side, sets that sell poorly and are removed early. There are also sets that have production issues in which some components of the set...bricks...instructions...boxes...make it too costly to continue production. Could LEGO be messing with EOL dates? Absolutely. But most sets will continue their normal production lives for the reasons I mentioned above.

  46. It wouldn't surprise me that Lego is going to screw all those investors stockpiling PS by a suddenly EOL of PC. Official press release: 'Thank you all dear horders for increasing our ususally bad January sales by buying the PS in large numbers; in fact so large that we couldn't keep up with production. Now, due to bad sales of the PC we are going to retire this one and produce the PS for another 2 years'. :-P

  47. First, welcome to the site! I myself was drawn back into buying LEGO by the UCS imperial shuttle. Also i myself am more of a builder/collector than an actual investor, so your not alone! I personally think you have some time on the SSD. However trying to find a rough estimate of when a particular set goes EOL is pretty difficult. Most people can merely speculate on when it might go based off of how long its been out and pending sets that are coming out that might boot it off the shelfs. I know that didn't really answer your question but I imagine most people will give you their best guesses!
