  4. Just expensive items for WM to begin with. Not big sellers at that level. $200 Train set was destined for sales failure at WM. They clearance big sets like that and replace with others. Last round MF, Chi Temple was clearanced at a lot of stores then others got in those same 2 sets. Kind of like Target clearancing Fire Station then replaced with Police Station, then clearance Police station and got Fire Station back in. Just a quicker turnover on larger sets.

  6. All we need is this set having a short appearance in "fifty shades of grey" and we will be just fine regarding sexappeal.

  7. I second what Ed says above. These guys read all these threads and that is a pretty big task and try their best to keep it in order. Members do crazy and lazy things all day. Bad titles, duplicate posts, put the same post in multiple topics, don't search, answer members questions in PMs, etc, etc. It happens all day, every day. If the mods didn't do what they do, then many people would be complaining that there is no moderation and everything is a mess.

  8. There is no need for this. They do the best they can for free. Everyone wants to take shots at the Mods, but until you walk in someone's shoes, it is easy to talk. It is difficult keeping the threads in order. Many people post threads that can be added to an existing thread. They take pride in their efforts and try to keep the forum clear of spam and obscene discussions. This forum is pretty lenient. Other LEGO forums just remove your post and you disappear from the site.

  13. I feel your pain. I have several of some large exclusive sets but there are so many available right now and I'm limited by storage/capital to having zero or one of some sets that I really like. And for those that I only have one of at the moment, the devil on my shoulder constantly whispers, "open me...build me."

  15. My $5-$10 flips pay for my $50-$100 flips. As for hourly rate, easy to package/ship sets I can pay my 8 or 10 year old a buck to do it. Buy from store, update listing already made. Get notification when sold, have kids pack or do it myself. Do that 5 times a day and you have plenty of money for the exclusives and what not. 16. Could be a shortage or problem with a common component like tracks or power functions. The extra track packs are also sold out in the EU so that may be why.

  17. There is no one reason to think that the trains 60051 and 60052 could go to EOL so soon... these are classic city trains, no exclusives, and such trains are selling longer than 2 years. Why would the TLG finish these trains just after 1 year??? No logic. There must be a train every year on the shelves, previous trains (7938, 7939) were selling 4 years!, no reason to stop the production and make another train. This is a basic set for children, such as a police station, fire station, etc. I think the reason of "sold out" status is just a lack of supplies after Xmas...

  18. I remember that with the NES. I ended up getting Dragon Warrior.

  19. Not trying to tell anyone how to do their business, but if you are selling these at $75 - I just don't understand why. You're making what, $15 tops, and that's before incrementals like gas, packing/shipping supplies, etc. Factor all that in you're under $10. And what's your time worth to go buy it, and then pack and ship it? In a relatively short amount of time this set will hit $100 without problem, I just can't grasp why someone who doesn't NEED the cash would short sell these at $75. It's barely break even. Perhaps I just over value my time. (By "these" I mean Farsnworth House since it is what was being discussed)

  24. This website is a business. It needs to remain professional and responsible. We never know who is reading the site. I really don't think you will see a free for all at brickset or eurobricks or any other LEGO community These guys are doing their job and we appreciate their efforts. If members would do what they are supposed to do then mods wouldn't have to do anything. Then there would be no complaints.

  25. I don't mean this as any sort of criticism or taking sides, but I could see some value in longer/busy threads like this being updated with a new thread yearly, or something similar: "Retiring Soon - Open Speculation - 2015" or something like that, which might make it a little more convenient for looking for current or even researching particular information from previous years. I can see this working on a few other threads too - Order Status, LEGO Employee Said, etc etc. Just might be more efficient/convenient.

  26. Look at the recent releases of the Maersk line of sets and I would have thought that they would have performed better. Enough off topic conversation. The Mods will delete all of my posts now.

  27. The value of time is very relative. I have a house full of kids (6 of them most of the time) and a full time job. I'm in better shape with a buy and hold/traditional investor perspective. I don't have time to spend running after clearance deals (which aren't that plentiful around here, anyway). More power to those who can. A 2.5 hour round trip to the nearest LEGO store is a trek when there's homework to help with, dinner to cook, and soccer games to sideline-pace. I think there's room for all sorts of strategies, and I won't poo-poo anyone who's making money and happy. Missing one of those two... why do it? There are other ways to find happiness and make money. Missing both, well... I still don't think the Sandcrawler is retiring this soon.

  30. Exactly. Solid advice. The double strength postage boxes are ideal for heavy sets like this and pretty much expensive sets in general.

  31. I think people need to temper their expectations a little... or maybe a lot. Everyone always wants bigger, better, fancier stories. So then they try that and people complain the movies are too long... So they shorten them and add a little special effects magic and people complain the story is lacking... So they try to make original movies and people complain that they've never made any more Star Wars movies... etc. I seriously ask, why can't people just accept these new movies for what they are? I personally can't wait. I don't care if they aren't as "EPIC" as the originals were.. they'll be fun, entertaining, and they're f-ing Star Wars. How bad could they be? <on a side note, no I didn't like Jar Jar but yes I did like the new trilogy and I've watched them several times even though the OT were IMO better> Related to LEGO, I think we're seeing this with Sets like Helicarrier. People want these huge sets then complain that they're too expensive. LEGO releases an reasonable cost/size model and everyone says awww, I wanted the big one. Then there are the parents who want value for their money then complain that they just wanted basic bricks for little Timmy and Jennifer.

Is Inspector gadget sick so his skin is greenish ? Poor Penny, where are your pigtails ? And poor Fino Brain who looks like a giant poo !

  38. I really could use some at that price! But it would be for parts for the BrickOwl/BrickLink store, meaning I would preferably need at least 6 of them... Of course, that's most likely not the intent of your offer. Either way, you should really grab every Cantina you can at $50, and I can buy the extras from you if you want.

  39. Probably not in time for 10188, 10240, or 10237, but I wonder if Lego will ultimately be forced to back off on the no discounting of exclusives policy. At best, I think it's a legal grey area, and it could probably be prosecuted as an anticompetitive practice under antitrust law. Many years ago, Nintendo settled with the Justice department for doing exactly the same thing, in that case requiring that the 8-bit NES always sell for at least $99.99 at retailers. They didn't have to pay a big fine, but they did stop the practice and sent everyone who bought a NES system (including me) a coupon for $5 off a game. Not exactly awesome (the coupon), but that was the beginning of discounts on video game consoles. I can't see why Lego would be exempt from the same rule, and there's already been some slippage around the edges, like with HH + $30 gift card at Target a year ago, or the Walmart AA + $15 gift card special that ran last year for months. For newer exclusives with more life left in them, it might be worth waiting for some relaxation of the no discounts policy, whether voluntary or not, before buying them at full retail prices.

  41. Every topic on the site generally runs 'unmoderated'. It's only when someone decides to post anything considered along the lines of being profane, abusive, or pornographic does the moderation come into play. No one here should ever feel afraid to leave a reply. Simply put, talk with others as you would yourself and there honestly should not be anything to worry about. This is metaphorically awesome beyond literal words.

  43. I would not let Farnsworth go by. I sold 28 of them in the last 60 days at $75 (paid $40 on them during the BAM BOGO and coupon stack). It is a very popular set. but I stil buy them at the $54 when I see them and save those for down the road. If it sells that well while being in stock on B&****** website it will jump when they are gone. Falling Water is great as well just wouldn't skip over Farnsworth.

  44. After the series 1 craziness I loaded up on 2 and started to load up on 3. Then I stopped. I don't think I will get anymore until I start making some money off of these. Have yet to sell any so far and I figured with series 4 already out and series 5 announced that 2 would start to come up. Worried the ride is over so holding off.

  45. Don't worry half the people on this site will be Scrambling to buy Death Stars when its just about to late, and coming up with the $400 to buy them will be another problem for alot of other people. So you guys that still believe this set is a dud or will take years to make big money will miss the Biggest Boat yet. Ed

  48. Definitely agree with others who hold the opinion that this is a niche set. Absolutely, that said the question is what niche? Well, of course it`s in the AFOL market given the category and price tag. That means at least 2 things, 1 it`s over the majority of buyer`s heads, but also keep in mind that the target group is the people with more money. The people who want the Triple E will pay for it, if that means $400, $500, etc. down the round, done. It`s not going to be a issue of price if you find the buyer. You`re going have more difficulty finding a buyer, but when you do the big bucks will be rolling in. Backing this I`d say, look at who would buy this. Someone that wants a great display. Corporate office display perhaps? The one I have built is absolutely gorgeous. I have no complaints (ok, maybe less stickers, printing preferred). Those are a buyers with lots of cash, or at the very least willing to spend it. So ya, your market is a niche, but look at custom motor bikes or tailored suits and tell me there is no money to be made. Sure you have to go about it quite a bit differently then you would selling hotdogs or other heavily desired items, but there is lots of dough to cash in on if you go about it the right way. Would I buy 50? No, I don`t have unlimited cashflow, 99% of us don`t, I`d diversify before I do that, it`s the smart play, but would I buy at least a few or several? You bet. I can`t comment on retirement for this bad boy, it`s only been a year, but my feeling is that it will likely be much shorter than say a Modular or the Tower Bridge, should be a given, again because of the niche market.
