  1. I've been a member here since November 1st (same day I started collecting) but figured now that I have 1 rack filled I'd introduce myself. This post could also go in the "how am I doing?" or the "stockroom pictures" thread. But I figure I would throw it here. I definitely consider myself small time and mainly use the profits from my sales to finance my own collection (keeping the wife off my back ). I have most of these sets on the rack built and in my personal collection as well. All of the ones on the rack are new in sealed box. I think I'm doing ok but open to criticism. Only bought 2 city sets, a high speed train for $100 and a coast guard plane for around 30% off retail. No Chima or any of the riskier stuff to sell. All of the Architecture sets were at 40% or more off. Got some CS as well not in the picture. I have 4 Sopwith Camels headed my way that I bought for $104.50 each. I also had pretty good success flipping 25 or so Minecraft sets during the holiday season. I'm trying to keep a decent mix of short, mid and long term holds. I've made 50 or so sales doing the QFLL thing and am averaging $29.82 profit per sale as of now. Although now that the Holidays are over I'll be holding a lot more. I'm a software developer/consultant by day and have used that to my advantage when buying sets after EOL. It's been hard not to read the daily deals thread and want to run all over town searching for those Walmart deals. It's exhilarating, but its not where my strengths are and I have to play to my strengths. So I've written some pretty advanced scripts that buy my LEGO during the F5 phase. As I'm not a big investor, I don't mind only having 3 or 4 of each set. Honing in on a few more Red5 now and will probably start picking off a few ToO over the next few weeks. I also need to order a new rack to store stuff in. Recently, a buddy at work also gave me around 35 pounds of LEGO to sort through, build, sell and split the profits. I love building so getting paid to build free LEGO is pretty awesome. So far I've found lots of old space sets and a market street (yea baby!) I'm 29, and originally from Atlanta. My wife is Romanian and we have lived all over the world but are currently in Jacksonville, Florida. We have an adorable 10 month old girl who goes nuts over Duplo. I'm also a sponsored (Starboard) stand up paddleboarder and enjoy surfing and racing in my free time. Thats pretty much it in a nutshell. Feel free to give advice on my buying or box stacking techniques as I'm open to suggestions.

  2. Maybe they even have their own Lego Employee Forum with a thread called: "What BS I sold to a lego reseller today!"

  3. Maybe they will retire it soon cause the one shown in the trailer of the new movie has a slightly different radar dish?

  4. Ahhhhhh if only there was such a thing as a production system that employees could check and it would tell them how long a set was going to be in production. Some employee is sitting somewhere right now telling his co workers of a funny story he made up to tell a reseller today.

  8. There are a few parts that don't appear in any other sets in the same color... and 60064 is the newest set to have them. http://www.bricklink.com/catalogItemIn.asp?P=46103&in=S http://www.bricklink.com/catalogItemIn.asp?P=32083&in=S And at least one oddball colored ones that appear in lots of sets, but never in light bluish grey: http://www.bricklink.com/catalogItemIn.asp?P=60603&in=S The supply plane looks to be based off the Fairchild C-119 which is a military plane, so maybe that plays into it? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fairchild_C-119_Flying_Boxcar Whereas the sky crane was certainly used by the military but it was also a civilian helicopter. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sikorsky_S-64_Skycrane Sikorsky S-64 with skis. I'm going with a parts problem.

  9. Materials guide for LEGO selling & shipping Many members have asked for a centralized place where they can go for shipping box information. I'm going to pin this post and update it as new information is provided. I just want to take a few minutes and thank those who wrote the following articles. They are still very good reference materials for the LEGO storage and shipping process. I may develop this into a blog article eventually. I want brick picker to be here tomorrow, don't want to see ed and Jeff dealing with someone nonsense of a suit. These days people will try and sue for everything. 11. Its funny we hear this a lot and I do get it and believe that's what they want but there production of these popular new release sets sure do not promote that belief. Tumbler was only hot and selling for 4+ months at $75 over retail because of how they sold the product and the avenues they decided to do it. So you're next big flagship comes out and its been on backorder pretty much since it came out also selling for about $70+ over retail The way the new minifig minecraft was sold promoted a big window for QFLL. And how is Elsa's castle not ready to go with huge numbers from the get go. Until now where its available at Shop at Home the set has been unavailable at retail levels for the majority of 5-6 weeks. If you didn't want QFLL going on then you would think there would be an abundance of sets available to the public in all avenues from the start. I can't believe that after the Tumbler they can't gauge initial sales enough to have enough on hand for the first few months which would all but eliminate QF of sets. Or does that initial false demand by shorting sets help sales overall after they come back in.

  13. ...isn't this how some investors have ended up sitting on the DS for years? What points to the Sandcrawler having a short lease on life? It's still available in the US through Amazon, WM, Target, and LEGO Shop at Home.

  14. Check out this one, I think this guy does some amazing modifications to existing modulars: Sjaak Lego 10246 XL Mod: Full collection of his photos HERE. Our family is working on the DO now, the detail is amazing. We primarily display our modulars but damn, building this thing is incredible. For us, the best part is the building and this is the most fun we have had building a modular yet. Every modular just gets more and more detailed and the building techniques keep getting better. Can't wait for 2016..

  15. Huw of Brickset has done something 'tried & true' with other modulars by adding another floor to the Detective's Office. It does make the structure more level with Green Grocer and a couple of the older modular houses but now it seems too big altogether in my opinion. >Detective's Office + extra floor

  29. I've been doing some looking into posting some sets over, for one its around $90(AUD) normal Air Mail (but I paid the extra for express which includes tracking and insurance - $122AUD). For 2, I was told by the Post Office it would be around $200 but I figured out later that it included insurance (which I cover) so it worked out to be about $170ish AUD for the express option (3 - 7 days). EDIT: I forgot to add that I weigh them at 4.5kg a piece as I suffocate them in bubble wrap.

  32. Lego is not a normal, profit-seeking corporation, for better or for worse. It would be run very differently if it were publicly traded and vulnerable to the power plays of activist investors. If a set truly sells terribly, like 10227, Lego will end production early. I don't think that was the case with town hall or R2. The latter was essentially due for retirement, next in line after SSD. TH is an interesting case, and I have no idea what they were thinking. But if Lego bases lifespans on sales, then we are to believe that The Zombies was the worst selling Monster Fighters set, The Burrow was the worst selling Harry Potter set of the last run, and assorted other dubious ideas.

  33. Probably not... I am following this thread to read speculations about sets possibly retiring soon. But all I read are these useless discussions so I delete all the emails about this topic without reading them. So I might miss some crucial information. Can't you open a new topic somewhere so you can discuss and fight all day and all night? So this topic stays for what it is? Speculation about soon to be retired sets? Please? Thank you.

  36. with regular points and demolition driller you're getting the same value as double points which is at the end of the month and less likely to have a freebie still around basically same difference just whether or not they will be available or not which is never known

  39. All this practice does is hurt the legitimate ebay sellers including most of you on here, yet every time one of these type auctions comes up of $50 Death Stars or half price this and that people bid on them with the hope they are going to get something that will never come. It affects ebay sellers as a whole as ebay then takes proactive measures like restricting additional accounts a legitimate user may have or putting harsher monthly limits on sellers to protect them from getting more damage from hacked accounts. If something is over 50% off on a hot item you know its not legitimate so why bother!!!! The attitude that I am covered by paypal and ebay so it doesn't matter is the wrong one to have. It still have repercussions on the site as a whole. Just report these type auctions instead of purchasing them and hoping for the best.
