  1. With all due respect, if you consider building a LEGO set work, then you will never truly understand LEGO and the finer points of LEGO investing. I am not trying to put you down in anyway. You can be a successful LEGO investor without really "getting it, " just like people invest in stocks or other commodities. Many intelligent people can invest in products they really don't care about and do very well. But I think if you really enjoy the LEGO brick and building LEGO sets, you can take that information and utilize it to your advantage when investing in sets. There is no doubt that some LEGO sets are tedious builds, but I cannot explain the feeling of accomplishment and enjoyment one receives from building with LEGO bricks. It's sort of like investing in wine or fine art. Either you get it or you don't and those who get it have a distinct advantage over those who don't.

  9. So i got one hell of deal, i think even the best deal of the year for me. I managed to get 170 (yes, 170) polybags of this guy for under $5 each at my local Game Mania (Dutch Game Store). My question is: Should i flip them or keep them for longer?

  12. retiring soon is a meaningless ploy . look how long 6862 has been retiring soon. things that have this tag linger a long time. things that actually retire rarely say "Retiring soon" they just go out of stock. To me "retiring soon" means - we have too much and want to get rid of some, so um , its retiring soon.

  13. While I have no idea I think this concern is possibly overblown but good to discuss. I measured 4 from Target and 2 from Amazon all 36R4 and they are all on my scale either 5 lbs. 10.8 oz or 5 lbs 11.0 oz. I pulled from my storage another R2 bought long ago (relatively speaking) that is an 18R4 and it was 5 lbs 11 oz as well. So on mine there less than 2 tenths of an ounce variance. That is no 1 or 2 missing bag 7's. I think we will be ok.

  16. Just received the late holiday catalog in the mail yesterday... no UCS R2D2 as others have noted, but the R2 minifigure is featured prominently and mentioned in the text of every set in which you find him. e.***., the DS... "includes R2D2 and 16 other minifigures" People love that droid.

  17. Finally we get this. See here: http://www.walmart.ca/en/ip/lego-star-wars-pre-vizslas-mandalorian-fighter-9525/6000050911565 This set had been retired since May and Walmart has carried it for $45 for a long time. $30 CAD is 50% of this set's MSRP.

  18. Don't know where you studied it and don't wanna offend you so please don't take any when I say the following: Actually Japanese (Nihon-go) is not a difficult language. Most of the pronounciations are pretty simple once you get them, the grammar is fairly easy since they don't use any special endings (like french, german, etc. do... but every gender is pretty much the same), they don't have a lot of time forms (I know of one past tense and the present, for future they use indicators like tomorrow etc.) yeah... The only difficult thing about it: It doesn't have a lot in common with european languages ;-) And the letters are difficult since you use hiragana, katakana and kanji (if you're good then you know about 1945 Kanji!!! but hiragana and katakana are fairly easy like our alphabet). Also: Like most (all???) people, Japanese people like if you try to be friendly by using their language for small things. When I've been to Japan or even when I've met Japanese people in Germany or in other places I only got positive reactions when I used what little Japanese I know. Nice to meet you - Hajimemashte (the ji is pronounced like the letter "***" in english, Ha-"***"-me-masch-t

  19. This is concerning...reminds me of the FB problem that may ( or may not) have extended the life of that set when it was thought to be retiring soon: http://www.bricksetforum.com/discussion/17340/r2-d2-10225-has-missing-bags#latest

  21. Who knows where you'll be in 5 years. My suggestion would be to build it. To me, building a big set is fun. And like many have said, you won't have a hard time selling it used, should you choose to do so.

  27. Be careful with what you listen to from the minions at eBay customer service. I sold a 75021 gunship for $300 (wanted to orserve the listing so I jacked the price up) it sold, got an email via PayPal that there was a charge back due to fraud. I called eBay to see what was up and the first rep told me to ship the item and they would release my funds after it was confirmed received by the buyer. I was baffled they suggested that seeing how the email clearly stated fraud. To the op, check you PayPal account for the payment. Sometime echecks show paid in eBay but you have to wait for them to clear in PayPal. If a hold then call them and verify its being held or what. I wouldn't ship unless you have a cleared payment.

  30. For a short term flip, I would go with the arctic base. Long term hold I would go with the bike shop & cafe. The bike shop reminds me of 7641, which has appreciated quite well since eol. AFOLs building a city scene years from now will want the bike shop/ cafe (or several of them to make each building). They won't want the arctic base, which to me is more of a play set for kids.

  36. do you have any other modulars built? if no, then i wouldn't start with the TH - it doesn't look as good as a standalone imo. buy a petshop and a palace cinema build those first and then if you think you like it and have the space the TH will make a great addition. if you are not interested in building one of the other modulars, i wouldn't bother building the TH. if you have other modulars then by all means build one. you will be able to sell it for a profit as a used set with a box and instructions in 5 years and still get the enjoyment for free. not as much as a new one but more than msrp.

  40. I'm a big Star Wars fan. But I feel like Lego could've made a better R2. Shinier silver lego bricks would've looked much better on the dome instead of the dull grey bricks. And they should've put some electronics in it so it could roll or rotate it's dome or make beeping sounds. As a fan, that's the one I'm hoping for.

  44. I love the set. Everytime I visit my lego store and pass the build version with the lights in it. I cannot walk on. I have to look at it and admire it. Offcourse it is more hoarded than for example the Eiffel Tower or Taj Mahal. But still I believe it will reach a value of 500 euro eventually.

  47. In the earlier discussions about Brick Classifieds, I believe we were told that we could advertise our listings from other sites on BrickPicker. Does this idea still hold now? It sounds like now it is a more independant buying/selling tool, rather than a site that brings together lots of eBay, BL, and Amazon listings. Just want a clarification. Thanks!
