The Town Hall is retired as far as I know and I do not believe it will make a comeback with the exception of a sporadic and short lived in stock appearance. While LEGO can indeed change their core philosophy and reproduce retired sets, I haven't heard such a drastic change is coming. But a change is coming nonetheless. Reproducing retired sets would reduce the value of LEGO sets on the secondary market and I don't believe LEGO wants to reduce the value of their product, either on the primary or secondary markets. LEGO is very smart and does pay attention to the values of their sets on the secondary markets regardless what many think. The two work hand in hand with one another. The perceived high values on the secondary market filters over to the primary market every day. Many LEGO fans or collectors will pay $400 for a set because they know it increases in value after retirement. If this sets dropped in value after use and time, how would buying patterns change? Quite a bit I would say. LEGO has ALWAYS been an expensive product. When I was a kid 40 years ago, till now, it has been an expensive product. But like with anything that is of high caliber and finely produced, there is an increased price tag. You get what you pay for is very true with LEGO sets and people don't seem to mind paying for this higher cost, because they know they are buying a product made with the highest standards and the potential to increase in value after purchase. Should you buy a Town Hall now at $300 if you don't have one? Probably. I bought a Cafe Corner at $575 and a Taj Mahal at $400 and that has turned out well. I'm not saying the Town Hall will reach those levels, but it will be a non hoarded, short production run Modular, so I say there is a good chance of this set hitting lofty numbers.

I built my first vintage set. It was actually my first huge ship as a kid which had been misplaced years ago. Bought this one off ebay. It was a so great to assemble. If you listen closely towards the end you can hear how brittle the bricks while pulling apart the modules. Enjoy.

While one hits f5 all day another is buying pet shops and enjoying their day.

Could always plan in advance to reach your quota so you don't have to sit in front of your pc all the time hitting that poor F5 button.

If this whole "out of order" EOL for the sets is true, it will make things quite interesting. If TLGs main deciding factor to end a set early is due to lack sales, and to keep other sets because they sell well will mean as a investor you reeeeeeally need to know where you're putting your money and have a strong game plan. Not just buying near what one believes is a sets soon to be EOL because you may just miss the boat. With that said, we should probably change this threads title to town hall/TLGs play to mess with resellers.

Well stated. Also, lego probably doesn't enjoy dealing with massive returns when a set that appeared to be eol blazes back to life with no discernible end.

* You buy a set $200 at LEGO Shop at Home and you build it. Another guy buy the same set on LEGO Shop at Home. Lego gets $400. Lego is happy and will add some extra hugs and kisses in your next order. * You buy a set $200 at LEGO Shop at Home just before it's sold out. Another guy wants this set soooo much, you resell it to him for $300 on a craiglist. This guy wanted this set and have no more money to spend on LEGO Shop at Home. Lego gets $200 . Lego is upset because you made money thanks to them and the guy didn't pay RRP, meaning they may be finally disappointed and can change their mind and later buy other toys, or less sets, because of that disappointement. Lego would like that you do not resell sets, and that: * You do not invest in legos. Another guy buy a $200 set on LEGO Shop at Home. Lego gets $200. Lego is happy because it's how things are supposed to be. Of course, if you buy a set $200 and resell it 2 years later on a craiglist for $200, lego will not care that much about it. The only thing that may upset them is that you sold a 2011 Ninjago set, and they would prefer to sell their 2014 Chima sets, so the buyer will be tempted to buy some other 2014 Chima sets (still available).

If I want a surprise box of "Lego compatible" bricks I'll take my chances with a monthly eBay purchase of brick lots that say they are Lego. There are bound to be less disappointments and a higher percentage of actual Legos.

So I had a mini heart attack twice tonight. I know how highly I'm thought of around these parts so I thought I'd let you all know. Here's what promted the heart attack... So I thought it would be a good idea to have my. Nephew separate bricktober sets. Thought it would be educational. He is 3.He started jumping and almost fell flat on them all. Happend twice. he then after stacking tried jumping over them barley made it . I was about to have so many pancakes. I fired him. Child labor sucks.

There products are a great quality compared to you're ordinary boxes. They just rotate the boxes on "sale" every few months. Shipping is very reasonable but I would recommend ordering a pallets worth if you are not local. They get heavily reduced freight rates and thats your best option. You can get a pallet shipped through them usually for under $75 as they ship from the closest facility. Also if you order $300 or $500 pick a free gift that you can sell and you get some money back that way. The Johnny Trigg BBQ kits and Tervis tumblers sell well also. We order once a week and they use local delivery as they are in our city and charge about $35 shipping for the whole order. Stuff like the packing peanuts and bubble wrap are impossible to pick up so it works out great. I stock about 30-40 box sizes so we just order whats out for the week. Issues with product damage are cut way down as the boxes are 200lb strength and don't crush as easily as economy stock boxes. Some good starter sizes for LEGO products are 6x6x6 12x9x4 12x8x6 10x10x4 14x12x6 16x12x4 18x12x6 20x14x6 and for larger modular type sets 24x24x6 The white boxes good for polybags are S-156 and S-159 for the small box sets If you're ordering just a bundle though the time you factor in UPS ground it might not be worth it for you needs but if you want to stock up and not have to worry about ordering them it can be a good deal. You can get a ton of boxes on a pallet.

So, if the change in policy is along the lines of complete unpredictability of set retirement (or demand-driven retirement, which means "unpredictable", since we would not know exact numbers), the smart resellers would be the ones that buy "right" sets regularly, rather than try to time the EOL

I have a fair share of Epic Dragons as well. You win some, you lose some. But as I have always stated and emazers will concur, buy the sets you think are good investments as soon as you can afford to and a proper buying opportunity arises. Timing this market might become a futile and risky endeavor for some. Think of it as "dollar cost averaging" for LEGO sets.

I believe he has stated that the "change" is underway. TH appearing to retire soon is probably part of that.

i don't think TLG takes resellers into account for any decisions related to production. that's like asking if the dog is concerned about the well-being of the flies swarming over its droppings. this is simple - its about money. i think there is an overestimation of the contribution of the reseller hoarding to LEGO's revenue. if LEGO revenue was so greatly influenced by the resellers, LEGO investors would all be screwed because it means demand is pathetic.

You make a good point. But you forgot to consider that if Lego makes a predetermined amount of sets, they are still getting the same amount of money. Let's pretend Lego sells a predetermined amount of 500 sets. In the first case you buy set #300 and the guy buys set #301. Eventually Lego will sell it's 500 sets and make $100000. In the second case you buy the 500th set. Lego still made $100000. In both cases Lego is happy. I believe Lego likes us resellers (to a degree) because we clean out the remaining stock that they want to retire and free up space for newer products. We also increase the value of Legos in the adult world. This value lets resellers and collectors have hope and keep buying more Legos to their collection. How many of us tell ourselves that it's okay to spend thousands of dollars because in the worst case I can just sell it at retail price? How many of us hold onto a Haunted house because it looks cool and in the worst case I'll just build it? They just want to control us to a degree that we don't crash our own market and affect their Lego value in the future. We are all tiny pawns in their grand scheme of things.

We are not important to TLG? You didn't see the fuzz resellers caused when 21110 was dried up within weeks of its release, did you? Randomnizing retirement is a way for them to screw up investing strategies. Random = chaos.

Nice video though I agree with the before mentioned issues. Also it would have been nice to actually see all of the items unbaged. The equipment bag could have been promoted so much better that way. At the end of the video you say: "see if you like the idea of getting a surprise box of LEGO..." LEGO is a brand and though there might be some original LEGO pieces included in the box most are not (as far as I could see). So it would be more accurate to say "surprise box of bricks/brickbuilding toys/LEGO like toys... also including original LEGO bricks" or something like that. (Yeah it doesn't sound as smooth and cool but that's what it is). Anyhow, thanks for posting, didn't know that this stuff even exists ;-)

I agree. Going to shop for Black Friday on Thanksgiving is just wrong. I liked it when the stores opened earlier on BF like 4-6 a.m., which is earlier than the standard hours. I really don't like the feeling of knowing that people are shopping at the exact same time that I'm eating my Thanksgiving meal.

I would recommend cracking that one open sooner rather than later. Once it goes EOL, you're going to feel the pressure to keep it sealed when the price starts climbing. This is the very rare set that I bought day one and built it. It's an awesome display piece.

It was not referring to you, but let me comment anyway. I was referring to people who clean a store out of any item. It brings negative attention to all of us. We do not all hit the maximum purchase amount when buying something like ravenb99 said. Many of us do not buy and flip short term. Moderating purchasing techniques and spreading around your purchases will help us all in the future. A guy like emazers spreads his purchases out, by stores and time. He doesn't acquire 50 of an exclusive set in a one time purchase, that is why he hasn't been banned at every LEGO store. Do what you want. I am speaking from experience and how not to draw attention to yourself. I have well over 7000 sets and never was banned, questioned or left Little Johnny with no sets to buy.

^ when you buy 1000s of sets a year from a dozen or so sources it is easy to miss a few. My best "lost inventory" was two GG miss labled. That was a nice surprise.
