It's funny to think about though.. Target bigwig: "Johnson! What's the status on our inflated GEs?! We need the profits from those sales to keep our produce and bedsheets alive! Smith! You better be refreshing that Shop at Home page if you wanna keep feeding your family! We're not getting caught with our price at $249 when that product status hits Available Now!"3 points

Finally!!! That Batman is sweet too. They should put Batman in a Friends set, casual weekend shopping Batman at the Heartlake Mall.2 points

Yes, I do sell in sets. If I have multiples of a set, why not combine them with another set to create another listing. (...one listing for each item plus a combined set listing.) I do not mark then down one cent b/c I am selling them as a set. Those who buy sets are typically people buying gift sets. (What are the chances you have the exact two sets a collector needs?) It also helps to sell in sets when you have cheap sets but dont want to sell them one at a time to make a few bucks at a time. Combine sets to make a listing worth your time. This approach also helps to make the shipping costs more affordable...who wants to pay 5 bucks for shipping on a 20 dollar item....7 bucks on 50 is more palpable to me as a consumer. Admins can lock this thread...my answer is correct and there really is no need for anymore discussion...Pickleboy has spoken.2 points

Ok, I think this mini-set deserves its own topic. I'm not sure that US members are all aware about its existence. Remember the classic LEGO Space1 point

Excellent! Except for Batman, he looks horrible, and I mean that, this version is horrible. Oddly enough, Green Lantern looks very good though.1 point

I worry so much about box condition, just open the set and build it. That's what Lego sets are made for in the first place.1 point

This is the best advice. The weight tolerance between boxes is usually very little. You will know if something is missing.1 point

Get a $10 digital scale from Amazon, works wonders on treating set tampering paranoia1 point

Welcome! To avoid confusion, I recommend we dub him "Not Quite as Bold Arrow", or if he prefers, "Extra-Bold Arrow, Now Even Boldier!"1 point

I love this thread. I have a couple of these but haven't built one, this thread is not helping me keep this NISB. :-) Really surprised at the variety of colored pieces, looks weird during the build but I can see why they do it.1 point

i get this stuff all the time. there is a reason why i order 10 at a time of the same set from amazon. use 8 for padding, keep the 2 good ones last time i got a petshop that fell of the truck, taped up all around inside a box that was missing the whole side. may be complete. building now, if not sending back... EDIT: had they only used extra tape all around, the boxes would stay together and wouldnt fold/crush as much1 point

Update from Danny's Mom via Facebook: I posted a photo album of all the pictures from today! It took 12 of us to fill up 5 vehicles of cards and packages!!! Danny was so excited and was smiling the whole time. We got to the post office at 4:30 because today was a chemo day and we were in Boston so we got home right in time for the post office!! Danny did great at chemo today, Matthew and Nana came with us. He was full of energy all day and so happy! He played dress up, did music therapy, and played with the play food! We are so incredible blessed by all the love that everyone is showing us! We never thought one small article to the news paper was going to turn into a world wide story for our little hero! We truly cant believe all of the mail that we have received! Thank you everyone! We will be posting more pictures of Danny with all of his cards soon!! And sorry for this being such a late update! I am finally finding 5 minutes to sit and be on the computer! We have been running crazy all day! Love to you all! Goodnight! https://www.facebook.com/dannyswarriors/photos_stream I hope his mom will realize that with such a wonderful response to Danny, maybe Danny can spread the love and give to other children less fortunate. That is a ton (might even be literal) of stuff.1 point

That is what the GE will be doing for the next two to three months. Then Lego will have a lot of them available for purchase during Black Friday, and then it will be officially retired.1 point

Receiving damaged items from retailers is one of the most frustrating aspects of reselling. I receive damaged items way too often. Most retailers will send you a free label to return damaged items.1 point

It warms my heart to read about all the support for this one child. I couldn't avoid thinking about my own son and I cried a little from it. We worked so hard to find him. He has only been in our lives since Feb. Imagining what his mom and others are feeling bring sadness and terror into my soul. I would like to find an already established non-profit and share my passion for Lego with them. Thru donations and proper investing techniques there would enough Lego for all kids like Danny.1 point

Target is a very big company that sells lots of stuff. However, they do not actually earn a lot of money. Their profit margin, last time I checked, was about 4%. I don't know what Target pays for a GE, but let's say it's half MSRP, or $75. So, before expenses, free shipping, etc., they make $75 if you buy one at $150. In reality, because they have lots of fixed and marginal costs, their profit is probably more like $10 or $20. But instead, let's say you buy a GE at $250 because you can't get them at MSRP anywhere. Target surely does track competitor's prices, and it may also track an item's wholesale availability (or lack thereof) from Lego. In any case, if you buy the GE for $250 (and since they go in and out of stock at Target.com, some people surely do), Target gets that additional $100. They get all of it (minus a low single digits percentage lost to VISA or MasterCard) as profit, because there are no additional expenses -- they still have just the one set to pack and ship, etc. So Target has made as much from selling one GE at $250 as they made selling 10 or 20 at $150. In the case of some other items mentioned, such as clothing or (especially) food, the difference is even greater. What I'm saying is that extra $100 of revenue from sale of a marked-up $250 GE contains as much profit as perhaps $1000 worth of MSRP-priced lego sets, or literally $10,000 worth of food (where Target's margin is more like 1%). I used to own Target stock and pore over their earnings reports, but anyone interested can confirm all of this by requesting a prospectus from the company (ok, anyone REALLY interested). The point being that this extra revenue from Target's "lego investing" has an outsized impact on the company's profits, and I would expect to see more of it in the future, and even Wal-Mart and Amazon joining in under similar circumstances (I would also expect the same to become standard practice in dealing with any other toy that appreciates in value post-EOL). I think we'll increasingly find that when only one online retailer stocks an item, unless that retailer is LEGO Shop at Home, we won't be able to rely on still obtaining sets at MSRP.1 point

A Billion dollar company that makes their money from clothing, food, and furniture doesn't care about Lego sets. It's not even .001% of their sales. They sell more of their other toys than Lego day in and day. What they have is millions in proprietary software similar to what Amazon/ToysRus/Walmart use that automatically adjusts prices, stock, and inventory on their website and Ebay site. These online venues have little to do with in store pricing.1 point

I'm not a big fan of coupon stacking either, but once again, if a store allows it, how can you argue the point? I think what bothers me is my own psychotic internal dilemma on similar matters. It really has nothing to do with others, it is a battle within my psyche as to whether I should open my mouth to save money or possibly waste time and/or embarrass myself. It is not illegal, so what's the big deal you say? In my distorted view of the world, I find such methods tacky. This coming from a man who wants a new pair of orange Jordan XX9 sneakers come September 6th for $225. That is tacky. :-) Sent from my iPad using Brickpicker1 point

The catalog doesn't help when you are trying to determine the EOL date of a set. Some sets can be out of a catalog for a while, and then show up again. But I do agree that this set should be done anytime soon. The theme that the set is associated with is long gone. It should go any day soon. Most likely at the end of this year, when many sets go EOL.1 point

It's pretty incredible anything thinks that Target adds anything of note to their bottom line from selling a few Lego items... In fact they probably don't even know their Lego sales exist other than algorithm's automatically changing the price to correspond with apps pre-set weeks in advance. They probably have one MBA guy running their Ebay page and that's about it. A few thousand in retired toys means nothing to them, they care about their billion dollar clothing lines and produce sections, not about making an extra hundred dollars..1 point

I bought 2 SSDs from Target two weeks ago for $499 each. I took them back to Target today to see if they would price match Walmart.com and they said yes. They allowed me to return both and then allowed me to repurchase for $399 each. Woohoo. Also Target at Tanforan San Bruno CA had two more 70404 Castles for $15.04 each, bought both.1 point

TO ME, this looked like poor coding on Target part. I doubt their current floating price practice was done intentionally. They most likely lose the based price point once LEGO put the set to retirement or on long OOS status and ran whatever price comparison algorithm they had. They should have added some kind of ceiling logic to that floating price (so it would not go higher than 1.5x Target's average price from the past 90 days for example).1 point
