  1. Brickpicker it not an echo chamber, or slowly becoming one. Not sure where you two are getting your definitions. I've spent many hours on various message boards as both a lurker and poster. This place is as far as it gets from group think. Kind of a hidden gem really. Props to both the mods and members for making that possible.

  3. I did my part. I served 12 years, ending my career with Desert Storm. Feel free to list what you have done for your country below. At 60 years old and a disabled vet, I'm done my time.

  4. There are many operations you will never read about that never made the news because who cares that a village in the middle of no where that never had power or running water suddenly did. You'll never know how many more children learned to read or write because what's it matter. Youll never know how many lives were saved thanks to our medical teams taking care of local populations. And you'll never know if someone sacrificing their life made a difference unless you've sworn to do the same. We dont go to these places because we want to. We go because the guy to our left and the guy to our right are going and weve sworn to protect each other. This is a tough time for many currently serving and veterans alike. If you know someone that served in Afghanistan or any modern theater ask them how they're doing and lend an ear. If you've never been there or fought for your country dont speak your mind. Just listen.

  6. To clarify what I said earlier. I didnt mean to say you're not entitled to your opinion on the war because everyone is thanks to the great freedom we get to enjoy. What I meant was telling a guy or gal (prefered pronoun) that may have spent an entire 20 year career deploying, training, sacrificing that it was all for nothing is not okay. I regret that many didnt get to see the positives that came with US forces on the ground. If you do find yourself having that conversation with a service member or veteran wade in cautiously and with respect. I do not communicate in any other forum or social media platform as I'm not fond of the interactions that occur. I argue that bp'ers are the most polite and respectful individuals I've come across on the web for a group of people that upcharge people on kids toys. Recently some serious topics have come up and in general communication has been free and without insult, mostly.

  10. Night time baby feeds continue to pay off. Lots of purchases of 2021 retirees at 50% or more off. This one sat for about 5 hours before I purchased it. Sets listed at 99.8% complete, but he had ordered pieces from PAB to replace the missing parts. Seller had 0 feedback, so I shot them a message to gauge things. Seller responded quickly and shipped them the next day. All arrived in good shape, and all of the parts were sorted into separate baggies. I already have them all... but with Christmas coming up these should turn into a significant gain.

  12. FYI: $15 off $100 code 2102212 is working across multiple orders (total has to be greater than $100 AFTER the 30% promotion). I've only been able to get any of the 10% off codes out there to work on the first order.

  13. I don't know about that. From the comparison pic on Amazon of the new model vs the real Tumbler, the sides of the rear wheel treads are way off.

  14. Sorry that you feel that way. My personal believe as a mod is to the discussions to as many point views as possible, even when I vehemently disagree with the aforementioned point of views. That should entice discussions which is the opposite of an echo chamber, where everyone agrees with just 1 or 2 point of views. Call me old school, but I found it hard to have meaningful discussions over Zoom calls and/or in person with masks on. In the past, it was much easier to have lively conversations over lunch at work but alas most of us are still under the mandate to work from home. Unfortunately, one of many side effects of isolation is we have more and more people expressing their opinions and frustrations by typing online instead of in person. Thanks for the suggestion. I do not have that broad of platform so I mainly focus on doing something for my local community every chance I get.

  16. It's quite possible, and even probable, that many people on this site are doing just that. At the very least, they have in the past. They just aren't vocal about it for a variety of reasons.

  17. Isn't the term echo chamber used to describe a place where everyone shares the same ideas and points of view? It seems there are varied points of view on all subjects, even which Lego sets will be good investments.

  18. You bring up a good point that given the fairly small numbers posting here...it's definitely echo chamber territory

  19. I think I may have finally cracked the code or at least gleaned some insight into retiring sets using the new data fields Lego is now posting. If someone or a team was given the assignment to add these data fields to a file so they can be displayed on the website but resources are limited they may have been told to only focus on sets that will still be around. Or perhaps they just haven’t gotten to all the sets yet, but I tested this theory with several “known” retiring sets and it seems to match up. Here is an example not retiring: https://www.lego.com/en-us/product/elf-club-house-10275 https://www.lego.com/en-us/product/medieval-blacksmith-21325 https://www.lego.com/en-us/product/bookshop-10270 https://www.lego.com/en-us/product/1989-batwing-76161 retiring: https://www.lego.com/en-us/product/gingerbread-house-10267 https://www.lego.com/en-us/product/dinosaur-fossils-21320 https://www.lego.com/en-us/product/corner-garage-10264 https://www.lego.com/en-us/product/1989-batmobile-76139

  21. I mean, it's a $***show, but it's not Joe Biden's $***show, it's an American $***show. This is the work of three administrations kicking the can down the road, tossing the hot potato to the next guy. I keep seeing this politicized as Biden's failure or whatever, but the fact is this is a several month delay of Trump's plan. Trump was very keen on withdrawal from Afghanistan and apparently tried to get the military to withdraw all of it's troops from... everywhere? before he left office in January: https://www.independent.co.uk/news/world/americas/us-politics/trump-election-memo-military-troops-b1848997.html Plus there are basically dozens of articles on the why and how Trump effed this whole process up. But I think while we may disagree about whether it was a good idea to leave at all, we can agree it was always going to be messy. This was a hot potato.

  22. Spending $2.3x10^12 on one war, that achieved absolutely nothing over the last 20 years was such a better use of resources than say giving every child a full free 4 years of college, or rebuilding our crumbling infrastructure, or continuing to pay down the national debt at a time when budget surpluses were possible and the debt was what only $5.5x10^12. Probably could have done a mix of all those things but glad we avoided those terrible ideas. Whoever started us down that path surely must have been a noble, compassionate and intelligent leader.

  29. If applying my statement to the current discussion it would translate to, “those who have not served in the armed forces should not say they know what it’s like to serve”. Anyone really want to disagree with that? I stand by my statement and the literal English translation of said words. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

  42. I just can't make any sense of Lego doing this other than they are a business and businesses want to make money. There are a few areas they improved on to better match the actual Tumbler from the movie such as the rear tires and the nose between front wheels. However, removing smooth pieces outside the front wheels feels like a down grade. If I didn't already own 76023 it would be a must buy for me. Otherwise, it feels like a toss up between the two models.

  47. Is it just me, or is anyone else struck by just how prominent the Colosseum is in the box art for the Fiat. Certainly, with the Fiat being Italian, one can justify putting the car in front of essentially any Italian landmark. I just wonder if this might be a bit of foreshadowing, the way they do with some of the Star Wars UCS sets.
