When I first saw those kinds LEGO art at Ripley's many years ago, my thoughts was "this look cool, but I would not want to be the one putting it together" From this angle, that looks like a map from 1 of those old PC games with world maps. It reminded me of how cool it was to see the map in color on VGA monitor (16 colors baby!!)

Earlier when I read this on my phone I was like, woah, eurocentric much? But now I'm looking at it on my laptop and holy cow this image just straight up hurts my eyes! 😆

Turner Syndrome (X), Trisomy (XXX) and Tetrasomy (XXXX) beg to differ. Furthermore, it is by now very well known that there is more to the sex you identify with than the chromosomes you carry. Yes we can start calling people “X-ers” and “Y-ers”, but you still create super diverse groups doing so where making assumptions about the whole group brushes people under the rug. The wonderful world of flowers alone would disagree. They're are all pretty kinky. And we can't prescribe concepts like male or female to other organisms, because they are human conceptions applied to things that have no need for them. It says more about our societay's expectation of defined sexes than it does the animal when we try to assign binary gender to other things. Your later example doesn't apply here though. The animosity people feel towards this set is the proof that there is still a lot of anti-l gbt resentment in society. If a company wants to make 6-fingered gloves for a small portion of their audience, no one is going to complain. The company is servicing a small portion of their audience who has gone unrepresented in the market. Similarly, LEGO makes a lgbt set and it's just one in their entire catalog. However, people come crawling out of the woodwork to complain that it's "too political." What's the only difference here? I can't see anything other than people bristling at the idea of l gbt people being treated as equals. The government isn't forcing companies to make 6 finger gloves. As society moves forward, groups of people are able to see themselves/their needs represented in more products and media. If you don't need a 6 finger glove, then just don't buy it. Complaining about it does nothing but make the 6-finger folk feel unwelcome. I'm gonna stop here for now though, 'cuz I've said my piece and don't want to make any more waves. I like you guys too much to drag us down any further. Everyone is awesome.

If people are nice and decent to other people then there is no problem. I’m not religious but the “do unto others as you would have done to you” is what it is about.

Science is not on your side here. Nature is not binary. It comes in many forms and flavors. Papayas have 3 different sexes. Male seahorses give birth. Male giraffes are overwhelmingly bisexual. Life started when a cell divided asexually. Nature, despite its cruelties, is the most open-minded goddess of them all. The concept of "normal" is a social construct of rules imposed on a minority by the majority. For those born outside of normal, it is oppressive and often unnecessary. Perhaps use that for self-reflection and realize that feeling victimized is exactly how lgbt people feel all the time when they are treated like a problem for engaging with "regular" society.

I'm sure parents would rather not go into this at what they perceive as too young...but the reality is, for children that fall into the non-binary or mainstream...they are experiencing these differences and already been given messaging long before they start stacking LEGO and are probably already fairly 'indoctrinated' and likely super confused about it already. it's not like at age 13 a child is suddenly aware they are "different"...that feeling likely goes back as far as they can remember and it's actually good of LEGO (altho far from perfect) to attempt to address the messaging in a medium that children are active in. also sexuality isn't about sex...it's identity. most of us probably take for granted that at a certain age, for example, we knew to use the Men's room and always did without a second thought...now think about what it would be like if the choice was not clear

being asian, I would say being considered "Yellow" is offensive it's deeper than just being associated to a color (which is generally offensive at various levels)...yellow in western culture is also associated with cowardice some contrarian examples to the above is the confusion when African Americans often refer to each other as "Black"...in the case of yellow...I know of zero examples of asians referring to other asians as "yellow". Also the term "Brown" has a lot of negative connotations...the obvious being associated w/ turds (NOT the LEGO variety) Ultimately maybe the bigger issue is it's no longer generally acceptable to make generalizations

yes, there's got to be logic involved...but not the kind you are using. Let's look at it from an accountant's perspective: A = Cost of ongoing production of existing set B = Cost of releasing new set (Manuals & Box Art, Marketing) C = Cost of licensing agreement D = Cost of R&D new sets I would speculate that C > A, B, or D Also That D is sunk costs Also I would guess that C is based on a duration and not number of sets produced There are other forces at work, ie LEGO cannot have 90% of their sets be HP...some semblance of selection must exist.

reminds me of trading 'gurus' that runs courses, if you are so good at day trading you would have made way more money than running classes.... but there are plenty that fall for it.

In my honest opinion at this point, LEGO could do away with the whole "mystery figure" shenanigans. Bad enough one cannot play a video game anymore without some sort of loot crate or 'gacha' gimmick just to come back to reality for the same deal. I understand the "random pack of surprise mechanics" practice has been around for a very long time but even so fatigue wears down the soul over time especially when considering the price of entry just for a single pull at that one-armed bandit. I can still remember the conversations with a couple different store employees at both Target and Walmart on how the Collectable Minifigure packs should simply be transparent. One of those times was after they had to clean up a mess of torn open packs. (And what a mess that was. Good grief.) I imagine these "Bandmates" being in boxes may help to negate the theft somewhat then again who am I kidding. Also more packaging just to get thrown in the trash even if it is made from recyclable material. All day could be spent on "what you get versus what you pay" comparisons between a single albeit unique character against a minifigure along with something to build in the same price range. The $20 "beatbox" set is generally comparable to the $10 Star Wars Planets from years ago. And the $5 "mystery figure" is comparable to, well, pretty much any other readily available polybag though that's nothing new really. With all that said, I still think these are a fun cast of characters with a nice collection of artistic prints. Only the price of admission is difficult to swallow. Then again I am and always has been a penny pinching son of a b***h so there's that.

The mass grave at the residential school in Kamloops. I can read a lot of bad news, however these are stories that I really have to be prepared for, before clicking. Most stories have a half life of 36 hours, but this will go on, especially here in B.C. It made me reflect as to the consideration of how civilized and much better a society we are, yet this stuff happened 55-120 years ago. Humans didn't really suddenly get better, we're all still heavily flawed. I also find it hard to believe that people thought this was a good idea back then. Yay LEGO!
