Here's what matters in my sliver of the world. I have a son, or at least I think I do. He was born a boy and he's a manly boy playing with trucks, trains, monster trucks, and things like that. It's 7am and he's playing with my LEGO trains; he chose a 10194/10233/60051/60052 hybrid today. He's not interested in dolls, although I walk down the doll rows in the toy store everytime we go, in case he wants one, and to encourage diversity. I dress him in bold colours whenever I can, because I'm a male, and I look great in pinks, pastels, paisley, etc. That's particularly hard for a toddler because all the colours are blah, and traditionally "girlish" colours are girl cuts, or frilly, so that doesn't work as well. People ask and I say he's a boy, but he can be whatever gender he wants (best if he picks one). The only thing that really matters is a person's individual happiness and why the F (big caps) do I care what makes someone else happy. Sure, one-hundredth of one-thousandth could take advantage of the situation, but the same percentage blow up synogogues, mass murder people in Vegas, other serious crimes, etc. The same percentage of the world are supposedly evil, however, society doesn't really do anything to sort out those issues, or deal with basic human rights. Yet how dare anyone not be male or female, because they'll corrupt everyone else, as if it were a virus. Special interest groups on both sides are overbearing, and actually ruin their arguments, when valid. Reminds me of a Simpsons episode? "Are these morons getting louder or dumber?" "Dumber, sir." It seems to me that LEGO is trying to be inclusive, and make money at the same time. Good for them and "in for three", as we used to say, in simpler times. Yay LEGO!8 points

Disagree with your assessment regarding animosity towards LGBTQ+ people. I am willing to bet most people don't care if one identifies as L or G or any other parts of the acronym. Live and let live. However, the constant reminder (via mainstream media, Hollywood, and social media) of the existence of +-10% of population who needs to be treated differently is going to create some backlash. At the very least, it is going to create a perception that the LGBTQ+ community needs to be treated with kids' gloves as they are so fragile as a simple mistake of calling them with the wrong pronoun will put them into mental breakdown. I lived in other countries where the Q people are some of the toughest most resilient people and nobody treated them with kids' gloves. I just do not see that happening in the US or other western countries, not with this or the next generation. The company in that example was supposed to be an analogy for society. It was my (ill worded?) way to give an example of how catering to every permutation of the outlier would make the society slow to a crawl. Also, who said anything about 6 fingered gloves? You assumed the company only needs to cater to people with 1 more finger. There are actually cases of people with more than 11 fingers on their hands. You would need to actively work to better your bias and use words that include everyone. Can't you tell I have taken the inclusion trainings at my office?6 points

If you have kids, and one of them is less than 100% MAN!!! Or 100% WOMAN!!!, I hope you soften your stance. Otherwise your kid will grow up hating you and also who they are, and the world will be worse for it. All because you had a narrow vision of what was possible.5 points

I still cannot understand why people think this is a "political" issue. How could self-identity be a political issue? But, well, that's probably also just my political view3 points
-
LEGO cancels The Punisher. LEGO cancels The Osprey. LEGO cancels the Crooks Hideout. LEGO caved under "political" pressure to cancel each of those items. LEGO has been dipping it's toe into areas that are political more and more. I think it's a fair criticism for people to say its "too political" without being labeled as having trouble with "the idea of l gbt people being treated as equals."3 points

I'd say 75% of my customer returns are still new and unopened. Usually they just have some moderate package damage. If we could see images of the units before they are sent back to us, then it would make this easier. I never know if i'm going to get back a sealed item or a polybag with a broken, loose action figure in it.2 points

I still have 2 from around Christmas that am i still waiting on . I went from 100% FBA to 95% FBM. Life has been much less stressful2 points

Why hold Amazon or their customers accountable when you can liquidate your FBA returns and get 5% of the lowest price back??? FBA Liquidations is a new program that lets you recover value from your excess and customer-returned inventory and avoid storage fees. How it works We send your inventory to wholesale liquidators, allowing you to recover typically 5% to 10% of an item’s average selling price. The program offers an alternative to having your inventory disposed of or returned to you. To liquidate your inventory, select Liquidations when you create a removal order from any inventory planning page.2 points

Size and weight should matter if you document them as others have noted. I would assume FedEx tracks weight and size carefully along the route so if you have a report showing that the item you dropped off weighed so and so it would be pretty clear that someone either stole the contents or the buyer is scamming you. I hate repeating myself here, but why being vocal support of LGBTQ+ right is a political issue? A social issue, maybe, but should never be a political issue - otherwise you are saying some parts of the political spectrum do not recognize this group has basic rights. Educate me. This set is not about the controversial laws / regulations, which is political (I believe some should not be solved via regulation - it only polarizes the issue more, but should have more education towards recognition of the group). This set is about recognizing and celerating pride month, not even explicitly (otherwise it would be called Pride, which I have no problem with). It is literarily called everyone is awesome. This whole thread (at least past page 1) reminds me of BLM and ALM arguments. But again, even being called "everyone" is awesome, people still not happy.1 point

Because the world makes it a Political issue. See NC House Bill 2 originally passed in 2016: https://www.charlotteobserver.com/news/politics-government/article68401147.html Repealed in 2020 https://equalitync.org/news/hb2_is_officially_dead_and_gone_in_nc_heres_why_that_matters/ This was a large issue at the time regarding how you identify and which bathroom you are allowed to use. But yet, that is the SOLE reason why they went from just Yellow Minifigures to ones of many colors.1 point

I've been a comic book collector for nearly 40 years. I didn't even know about the cartoon. Deadpool in the movie is not a caricature of him in the MU; that is Deadpool. And he's been in the Marvel Universe for 30 years. Yes, as I said, it is current events that is the issue with the minifigure at this time. It has nothing to do with the manner of how or who a 'hero' kills. An Amazon search for Punisher + Trump is all the evidence one needs in figuring out why Disney/LEGO would wanna minimize the Punisher's inclusion in this set.1 point

I find it odd that TLG has 35 photos of this set on it’s website but doesn’t show all the minifigs. Maybe they are all shown if you look close in all the photos. I have not looked that close. But they show 7 or 8 single figures but no group photo of all the minifigs like on the top if the box. The minifigs are probably the main selling point. Why not showcase that more?? Or for those 7 or 8 single minifigs photos they could have done good close ups of 3 minifigs per photo.1 point

If your primary goal is only to make money, then probably not. Full time job at 1000h, plus you have to buy supplies to ship everything, pictures, listings, etc. This also assumes it will actually sell at the price you want, which doesn't always happen. If you want a bunch of it for your collection, then sure. If you see $3-5k of products that you want to keep and can sell the rest for your outlay, then it's a good deal. I only ever buy used lots now that add to my collection of ships or trains or modulars etc. I sell the rest and break even or come out ahead, because I can work on those odds and ends in my spare time. I would never do it just to make money now, because your cost and time goes up so much ordering parts, waiting for them, waiting for replacements when it's broken or the wrong mold, etc. Plus space is finite. Selling takes a LOT of time and effort, buying is easy. Yay LEGO!1 point

If you are 17, I personally will say that there are lots of other things that the money can be better spent in I.e. saving for college / University, first car, travelling for experiences, learning about finance for future and things like ISA's / Pensions (or 401K is it in USA?) as 16k invested in a world tracker fund via compound interest would probably be worth alot more in 10/ 20 years (I am not a financial advisor, just giving some general advice). If you did want to invest in lego, start of small (100's or 2k etc) depending on your budget, but if you are 17 I don't know how the tax stuff would work for you, as even though it is all boring stuff, you would still need to look into it.1 point

Turner Syndrome (X), Trisomy (XXX) and Tetrasomy (XXXX) beg to differ. Furthermore, it is by now very well known that there is more to the sex you identify with than the chromosomes you carry. Yes we can start calling people “X-ers” and “Y-ers”, but you still create super diverse groups doing so where making assumptions about the whole group brushes people under the rug. I am personally quite happy with the current notion that you need to celebrate people for who they are. Live and let live. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk1 point

X and Y chromosomes are found in nearly every living creature or plant on earth. Some species are designed as asexual and can change sexes naturally. If "male" and "female" are problematic, then maybe we should just start calling ourselves XX (female) and XY (male) people. That would eliminate all other options as there are only two combos that have ever been found. And why are there two markers? Because there are two parts, one female and one male that are joined together. It's not just the XY chromosomes that have two parts, every part of DNA has two parts, one from each sex (23 pairs). It is also the reason why a human cannot impregnate another species - different chromosome count. On a side note, unfertilized human eggs can begin developing into a child. However, it will never grow properly and lack a skeleton, muscle, etc. It is called "Parthenogenesis" = "virgin birth / origin". So while some species can develop that way, humans are unable to. The only other exception is intersex people - those having both sex organs. However, apparently they are only able to impregnate themselves (if they actually have both fully formed sex organs, most do not) and when they do, they only give birth to male children (only 11 such pregnancies are known to date). With only 11 such pregnancies, that is clearly an exception and not the norm for everyday life. I just see the male/female aspect to life like gravity being 32 ft/s^2 (9.8m/s^2). It's just how the world works.1 point

That's what I used to think, but that's changing. For example: Ibram X. Kennedy and other major 'thought-leaders' have been preaching that you're either racist or anti-racist. Therefore if you're not actively fighting against racism and racist policies (as defined by them, conveniently), you're perpetuating systemic forms of oppression. And (by design) this isn't something that can be ignored, either, because their ideology has taken a cultural hold, and they've been developing corporate training and educational curriculum. Curriculum, mind you, that does tell people they're part of the problem based on immutable characteristics (e.g. Coca Cola's training slides that told employees, literally, "Be less white."). It's frustrating because there's truth in some of their messaging; there are things that need to be addressed. I'm interested in doing the research, too. Unfortunately, I have kids that could be adversely impacted so, lately, that time is spent learning about these "Trojan Horses" that use righteous causes to justify tactics that, to me, violate the golden rule as well as core principals of this country.1 point

The wonderful world of flowers alone would disagree. They're are all pretty kinky. And we can't prescribe concepts like male or female to other organisms, because they are human conceptions applied to things that have no need for them. It says more about our societay's expectation of defined sexes than it does the animal when we try to assign binary gender to other things. Your later example doesn't apply here though. The animosity people feel towards this set is the proof that there is still a lot of anti-l gbt resentment in society. If a company wants to make 6-fingered gloves for a small portion of their audience, no one is going to complain. The company is servicing a small portion of their audience who has gone unrepresented in the market. Similarly, LEGO makes a lgbt set and it's just one in their entire catalog. However, people come crawling out of the woodwork to complain that it's "too political." What's the only difference here? I can't see anything other than people bristling at the idea of l gbt people being treated as equals. The government isn't forcing companies to make 6 finger gloves. As society moves forward, groups of people are able to see themselves/their needs represented in more products and media. If you don't need a 6 finger glove, then just don't buy it. Complaining about it does nothing but make the 6-finger folk feel unwelcome. I'm gonna stop here for now though, 'cuz I've said my piece and don't want to make any more waves. I like you guys too much to drag us down any further. Everyone is awesome.1 point

Science is not on your side here. Nature is not binary. It comes in many forms and flavors. Papayas have 3 different sexes. Male seahorses give birth. Male giraffes are overwhelmingly bisexual. Life started when a cell divided asexually. Nature, despite its cruelties, is the most open-minded goddess of them all. The concept of "normal" is a social construct of rules imposed on a minority by the majority. For those born outside of normal, it is oppressive and often unnecessary. Perhaps use that for self-reflection and realize that feeling victimized is exactly how lgbt people feel all the time when they are treated like a problem for engaging with "regular" society.1 point

being asian, I would say being considered "Yellow" is offensive it's deeper than just being associated to a color (which is generally offensive at various levels)...yellow in western culture is also associated with cowardice some contrarian examples to the above is the confusion when African Americans often refer to each other as "Black"...in the case of yellow...I know of zero examples of asians referring to other asians as "yellow". Also the term "Brown" has a lot of negative connotations...the obvious being associated w/ turds (NOT the LEGO variety) Ultimately maybe the bigger issue is it's no longer generally acceptable to make generalizations1 point

wow. Away from the site for a few days, this thread really takes a turn. I like the idea there probably can be some improvement on the hairstyle included in the set. But I agree with @Gonkalin more. Involved with LGBTQ+ community a lot last year, I feel the core is to embrace openness and inclusiveness. If you are truly supporting the community, then you should already know why it can be good set (with the right message in the marketing of the set, of course) even if it does not include every single color Lego can/will make. Please don't try to narraw the idea of Pride month/celebration - yes, it is to celebrate certain communities/group of people, but it is not to reject others.1 point

I feel that many of you are way over analyzing this whole thing. Lego is putting out a set that is supportive of an under-supported segment of our communities. And that's a great thing. I'm a straight white man and I whole heartedly support the LGBTQ+ community. I would hope that people would understand what Lego's intention is by putting out a set like this. And not get caught up in (not trying to pick on you Darth) where is neon green, or desert tan. For those who are under-represented seeing something like this is hopefully well received because of it's intent. No one is ever going to make everyone happy. Especially when talking to a global audience. But kudos to Lego for taking a step in trying to put out a positive message to the world about acceptance. And white, straight men don't need a lego set to make them feel special because there are thousands of lego sets specifically marketed to that segment of the population.1 point

If I were to look upon this set as just a build, it is a nicely simple one. However the inclusive message behind the set makes such an opinion irrelevant really. The LEGO Company could have passed over the inclusion of hairstyles making all included minifigures boringly bald but in doing so would have undermined the very statement this set is supporting. Particular hairstyles and colours have typically or habitually been seen or classified as either masculine or feminine for the longest time. As society goes on we are slowly stepping away from that "ole world thinking". And if not then we need to be. Honestly I love this set, the minifigures and what it all stands for. I praise the LEGO Company for openly supporting the LGBTQIA+ community and working towards a diverse workplace with Stonewall, Workplace Pride, and Open For Business.1 point
-
Considering the set is based on the newer versions of the Pride flag, I think its acceptable to give the black and brown minifigs natural-hair pieces. Those stripes are meant to represent people of color (I'm not endorsing or arguing against this version of the Pride flag, btw, just connecting things). We already have very few of these pieces in circulation and I am happy to see them made more accessible in cheaper sets (I can only think of a few Marvel sets and the Ghostbusters Ecto-2 having those pieces). If you see the representation of a group of people as "political", then surely you have the same problem with pistols in Star Wars sets (Pro-2nd Amendment) or the lack of cash registers in hospital sets (universal healthcare)? Saying that you "don't like politics" is not the same as being apolitical. Many times, minorities have been silenced by majorities who tell them that their mere existence is disruptively political or controversial. Those minorities just want to live their lives the way they were born. It's not their fault that other people can't tolerate them and make a scene. Ask yourself why this set is causing so much butthurt when we have had sets with wheelchair-bound minifigs, adolescent sewer tortoises and cartoon rats in committed relationships. Perhaps the issue is not LEGO, but people who are still uncomfortable beyond their narrow understanding of the world.1 point
-
I guess I'm confused about where you see the controversy here. It seems like you have a problem with LEGO acknowledging and embracing a community that you personally take issue with. Your statement feels like you may be telling LEGO to "stick to sports" or the like because you disagree with the political message they are sending by releasing this set. What if... the world wasn't so cold and brutal? What if... we rebuilt the world with love and acceptance?1 point
