I don’t really want to re-enter the conversation, but I will say this: I have a 12 year old. She’s on all the social media platforms. We have a great relationship with our daughter and she asks us to s of questions. Her life is inundated by influencers. It may not be Taylor Swift, but the influence is there. People on TikTok have posted about DC, BLM, the rioting, the election, COVID. People take anything the President or anyone else says and amplifies it. My daughter has come to me with questions. We’ve had some great conversations. But these conversations have all been generated from social media posts and commentary from the people posting this stuff. So yes, they have as much influence if not more, than the President.

Absolutely, especially for the younger generation (15-25). Think about it, when you were younger, did you listened more to your president or your rock idols (whoever they were) ? In the past you read/heard from these celebrities maybe once or twice a month via magazines or TV interviews. Today Twitter amplifies those influences since kids get access to celebrities' thoughts and feelings 24/7.

All this Kristy Swanson and Charlie Sheen talk got me remembering the car sex scene in The Chase. brings back fond memories...

2 different Las Vegas sets. 21038 and 21047. TerryMc is correct. After the MB shooting, LEGO replaced MB with Bellagio. Apparently some of the 21038 sets were released in South Africa but only a few. One of the very rarest LEGO sets ever.

In other news, misinformation about misinformation declining has increased 74%. There are many issues with this. First, it assumes that the person taking this survey knows the absolute truth about everything. Only then could that person decide what is misinformation and what isn't. Then they would have to use this all powerful knowledge to discover every lie told on every post across all social media. Then and only then would they be able to determine the actual percentage that misinformation dropped. The group that performed this survey, Zignal Labs, is not anywhere near a unbiased 3rd party and they are based out of San Francisco. Zignal labs lists FB Vice President of Global Business Communications as a senior advisor for their company.

Hollywood actors are owned. It’s part of their job to spread propaganda. Ben Affleck for example is directly connected to the CIA. Listen to nothing they say.

In my experience, it has not made a difference. I've sold listings and replenished only to find them restricted at a later point. Ive also had those same listings become open again as well. I still buy restricted (or likewise items) figuring I will be ungated on them eventually since that's been my experience through the years. My only exception are Lego Darth Maul magnets that I have been stuck with (100+).

Bought in recent weeks: Turbo Tank (most recent I believe) NISB (some shelf wear) $150 (Offerup)...good price, not a steal or anything, but local and I avoided 8.5% sales tax and shipping costs. Chinese New Years Eve's Dinner NISB (nice box) $220 (CL)...I'm high on Asian sets, I think it's slow but trending up and eventually (2-3 years) the earlier ones will likely be sought after. Should note i originally sold mine that I got for $150 for $225...I suck at re-selling. Ninjago Destiny's Bounty (the big one w two headed dragon) NISB (shelf wear) $160 (Offerup): just an amazing price (original RRP).

I just found out the other day that Kristy Swanson was in Ferris Buelller. It just registered with me. My complaint is that it took me this long.

All i am saying is the president is bound by rules that normal citizens are not bound by so comparing celebrity posts/bans on social media is not a proper analogy and it's not hypocrisy. It is different. It's supposed to be different and higher for the president. The standard is and should be higher because the office of the presidency has repercussions and influence that no celebrity can come remotely close to. Except maybe the rock Sayings it's hypocritical that cristy swanson or puff daddy can say bad things in their posts and not get banned is vastly different than the president of the United states. Social media does have rules and norms that are known. A woman has a legal right to be a pornstar and post pics and videos in provactive outfits all day long but the moment she applies to be a middle school teacher, it might not go well. A white man has the legal right to join and lead a white supremacy group and post all about it, but the moment he applies to the police department, it might not go well. Our president has the right to speak his mind on social media and rallies, but the moment it stirs up a riot, death, and police injuries, it might not go well. Comparing these acts to celebrity posts and claiming hypocrisy just doesn't cut it for me. Maybe i am old school and expect a higher level for the president of the United States. I never saw Ronald reagan act inappropriately and then say guns n roses did it to so it's ok.

Gotcha guys. I don’t believe I’m going to change minds. And as I said upthread, this is the argument people are making. I don’t get the double standard, but okay.

My point isn’t about the President’s feelings. It’s about a celebrity and their ability to reach a large number of people with suggestions of violence. If say, Christy Swanson (who is a Trump supporter and at this point as D-List as Cathy Griffin held up the head of Biden in the same pose, don’t you think she would be vilified and cancelled? Don’t you think that would be criminal? Don’t you think that it would get media attention (much as Griffin did) and that the masses might take it as a call to arms? I don’t think anyone should be joking about assassination. I guess if you don’t believe that, then you’re proving the point of hypocrisy. You’re focusing back on the individual and not talking about the influence words have on people.

It's a good thing no one encouraged people to burn/destroy their cities, kill police, and attack innocent civilians. We would have never had our summer of love.

And that still doesn't always help. But we must also remember - It's that same state of mind (irrational sense of worth) that makes this all possible.

I'm going to move this briefly away from the current discussion to vent. My biggest complaint about selling Lego is those who want "100% Mint" boxes. I realize the value of a collectible, but these losers are annoying. Every time I sell to one I think I'm going to get a complaint because there is a tiny ding in the upper left hand corner of the box, "item not as described". I appreciate a mint box as much as the next guy, but come on, it's a freaking toy.

I feel like that’s the hypocrisy sounding all of this. (And this is directed toward you or anyone here). Kathy Griffin posted that picture of her holding Trump’s severed head while, she is holding a knife. Madonna has said she wants to blow up the White House. Neither of them have had those posts removed or their accounts suspended or banned. I believe it will be difficult to convince the President’s supporters that he is being treated fairly, when others that are also promoting violence are treated differently. I accept that even if you did suspend those accounts, people would still complain he’s being treated unfairly. But at least it wouldn’t be hypocritical.

You guys do realize that shelf space is not relevant for what stays and goes, don't you? It isn't like Lego execs are sitting around worrying about shelf space in Target when they have multiple online outlets. There are plenty of examples of Lego maintaining numerous large sets at one time, none of which took up any shelf space except in a few select stores that generally started with "L" and ended with "ego". Retirements are driven by internal metrics and considerations invisible to us.
