Technically all the info is out there but so too was all the info about bad mortgages being packaged with triple A mortgages before the subprime crisis if you knew and had time to dig into the massive disclosure statements. The average person doesn’t follow websites or become a VIP or even get emailed offers from LEGO. They think about LEGO when little Timmy has a birthday and asks for something. Even parents or their kids who are big fans often don’t know the simplest tricks. For example, a friend of mine was proud that he had gotten all the Lego Batman movie sets for his son. I asked him if he had the Penguin rolls Royce. Deer in headlights. That set was only available at the LEGO store/ website for a short time. He did his buying at wal-mart or Toys R Us. I didn’t have the heart to go into all the various poly bag and other promos I was certain he didn’t have. Maybe one day he’ll discover he can’t live with his failure, and where will that bring him? Back to my Amazon store. Maybe I am a monster.

So many QFLL nowadays, I do not know if I should be proud or afraid

LEGO has in a sense become a luxury brand. I find them similar to how my wife’s purse makers behave. They have their regular purses that get reissued from time to time like fire and police sets, but get their diehards and diehard wannabes excited with limited editions that they purposefully issue in limited quantities that they know will sell out because they want to generate buzz and demand. Plus they have their truly expensive bags, the UCS of the line, which separate the elite from the plebs. They tolerate resellers (but not counterfeiters) because they spread brand value and mystique.

6 months into 2020. it's been a nightmare. can things possibly get worse? heck yes,

the london set the sticker looks like crap because the sticker obscures part of the set. the rarer set will be the pre-covid ones without stickers that will probably have b een opened up and built now. but it won't make a big difference because its architecture.

What gets me is attitudes like the message I got last month from some woman complaining about my double retail price on a long EOL Friends set that was in stores for 2 years and often discounted (which is when I bought them). Apparently she needed this set for a birthday and I’m a “monster” for selling a set above retail years later. She took time out of her day to write that message to me despite not buying anything. And I’m the lowest price on Amazon Canada. I raised the price right then.

Sold my Haunted House for $390 on BL. Before selling, I got a handful of comments about how terrible of a person I am, and my price wasn't even the highest! I did truly consider keeping the set, but would hesitate to buy a pre-release for the sole purpose of flipping. If I was a wide-eyed innocent kid / family who got their LEGO catalog in the mail this week and saw this beauty that our family could build; only to find that it's been OOS for weeks while scalpers have jacked the price up almost 100% I would be pretty upset. IDK, I go back and forth but even if you find a buyer they are usually NOT happy in this situation which just goes against the spirit of LEGO, in my humble opinion. It's a whole different story after the set has seen its time on the fair market with ample opportunity for anyone who really wants to grab it at a fair price. As far as retired sets, that seems fair even if prices have climbed a lot. Those are going to established collectors who know what they're getting into and what it will cost; it's worth it to them. I am more than open to your opinions, of course. Just sharing my recent experience.

More than likely, but some are harder than others. There have been a few questions about this new sticker we've been seeing so I just wanted to offer my experience on how easy it was... just trying to help in case other were curious and wanted to do the same.

Half of the sets at the Target I was just at had the stickers. That makes me feel better since this will help desensitize the end consumer to them. Interesting times.....

Great question, especially since so much has come out since this thread was created. I'll make mine a little less childhood this time, though some of those still stand out. 1) UCS Millennium Falcon - Either would deserve to be here. 10179 for how it served as the gold standard for so many years, and 75192 for how much they improved upon it. 2) 10189 Taj Mahal - Amazing set in person. Need to build mine again. 3) 10181 Eiffel Tower - Very impressive in size, honestly needs an update structurally through, similar to 10030 4) 10030 UCS Star Destroyer - I don't own the new one yet, so this will sit in its place for now. Massive but needed the update it got. 5) 42083 Bugatti Chiron - Masterpiece in Technic ingenuity. 6) 10210 Imperial Flagship - Still the gold standard for pirate ships. 7) 6990 Monorail - While not "Classic" space, this is about as coveted a space set as there is and blew everything previous out of the water with the motorized components 8. 71043 Harry Potter Hogwarts Castle - The HP set we wanted for so long in small scale. 9) 10261 Creator Roller Coaster - There are other roller coasters, but the sheer size of this and the ability to motorize it make it a must have for fairground builders 10) 10255 Assembly Square - Using elements of its predecessors, this modular is almost perfect in build techniques, colors, build quality.

I've had a few on a Wednesday afternoon make a low-ball offer and demand the item by Friday. They get declined without explanation.

The Star Destroyer for sure, the new version is a huge improvement. These two are much too different for comparison. The first looks like that house you'd hear rumors about while in school, and has actual monsters in it. The latter is very clean and very much looks like a haunted attraction at an amusement park.

As I was scalping UCS Falcon's when they were released, and making more than double on cash sales, I laughed all the way to the bank. You snooze, you lose. This market thrives on impatient people with money to piss away. If I didn't take their money someone else would.

I think lighthouse will do fine. Its normal setup fits in nicely with the existing city layout, who doesn't need a lighthouse on his coast? 😁

It definitely seems like this set is becoming more frequently available. Amazon had a small restock this morning as well around 7:50am ET, but that's gone now as well. My local LEGO store had 3 sets on the shelf when they opened up this past Saturday and sold out that weekend, but are now showing additional stock for the set as of this morning's online stock checker.

The new falcon and carousel have certainly diminished the originals. Could also happen with the haunted house and star destroyer.

That's why I like the High School as a stand alone building. There hasn't been any schools besides in the Friends theme. This set will look great in a layout among the other City & Modular buildings. I think it will do well.

I made a bit of a roadtrip to get some Hidden Side Lighthouses and High Schools today, which I wasn't thrilled about - I was hoping (And thought) they would get another markdown, but doesn't seem to be the case and they are starting to dry up at the 40% price point. High School I am more confident on, Lighthouse not as much - They both are gambles, but I don't really think you can LOSE money at the $75/$30 buy in. I actually like a lot of the Hidden Site sets themselves, they provide good value PPP - and I think they look cool. I am not sure how much they will be in demand post retirement though. I am usually wary of "Techy" type stuff like the Dimensions/Hidden Side, etc. While out, I hit up a Barnes and Noble and grabbed 2x Hogwart's Express with Membership and Disc GC.

The idea is good, but the proportions are horribly off. They are too tall, too thin, and the ears are too large. Looks like they should be strolling down the catwalk

Finally completed my Winter Village collection (ok, I don't have 10199, but I have the re-release). Built 10216 Bakery and 10222 Post Office after grabbing a partial lot for 10222 and bricklinking/borrowing from personal collection for the rest of the pieces. Still waiting for 1 sticker to arrive (for the pretzel sign) and need to change out the horse for the correct version, but this is now built with no substitutions from the original kit (even the tiles with clip and the 1x2 jumpers are the correct versions). I have to admit it is quite nerve-wrecking to put together a set when you know that the piece you are holding is going for $5-$10 used on BL. I'm looking at you, 8x8 plates in Trans-Blue, and you, brick arch 1x8x2 in Medium Nougat, and you, 8 plate 1x2 with handle on side in Tan. Total across EBay and BL (including the aforementioned expensive pieces, all stickers and manuals) will have set me back ~$230. Not cheap, but cheaper than picking them up second hand complete (each go for ~$200 used complete on EBay currently). I figured now was a better time than closer to the holidays to finish this project. Used the opportunity to try out my new lightbox for taking pictures, but ran out of space displaying both at the same time

Not so much as build, and not even rebuild, but move. I build the GE ages ago, and it’s been in display forever. I’ve wanted to move it to a MILS plate forever. I recently built the PC and began with that on a MILS plate for a base. So getting the GE on that as a base means I can display them together.

Thats what I got out of it. I am still wondering about the Roller Coaster....i need it. To add to my "not even close to building or have the room for yet but I have to have it" collection.

That's actually in excellent condition for a set that size. I'm a little surprised it seems LEGO didn't put any internal boxes (like with the UCS falcon or y wing) to help with the weight sloshing around, but what you have is easily sold in good condition with "shelf wear". Just browse some of the ebay listings out there to see that yours is among one of the better. I know you're wondering how to resurface after the multiple replies you got... you may feel thoroughly rebuked; we've all been there before. I like brickpicker because we are striving to hold the investor / reseller community to a higher standard. At the same time, we all have more faults than we would like to admit. Take the advice and unfortunately a smaller slice of the pie and move on. I'm still confident you can make a profit with what you have, the price is slowly climbing up.
