Not judging the sets, just reporting an offer on exclusive sets .... whether you think it is worth it is up to you4 points

For those yet to order from either location, do be warned; their shipping practices are subpar compared to Lego warehouse packaging. Think ship from store quality. I've received two Legoland park sets in the original Lego shipper filled with bubble wrap filling the other half. FedEx didn't exactly throw them around but they may be prone to damage for bigger sets with so little outer protection.2 points

It's unusual times. I sold lots of big sets to make space/free some cash and my ebay was going off all hours. I was selling most for a double profit but happy to get out of star wars at 50%. Elves has been spectacular (at least x3 purchase across the board). The Speed Champions have always done well for me at the 3 year mark but selling the lot is awesome for you. As mentioned before I lost my job, so the money is very appreciated, better return than stock market, thats for sure. Hopefully working again inside 2 months, before big sales at end of year to replenish supplies. For the first time in 4 years my wife "gets" lego investing/selling and some building. She is stunned when I show her purchase vs sold prices at the moment.2 points

Here's one, I have an item listed for $45 buy it now with offers turned on. This person comes and offers $35 and I counter at $40. He counters again at $35 so I just declined. He then did this two more times. I block him as a bidder and then he proceeds to do it with 2 other eBay users (all have the same zip code and similar name) so I blocked all of them. Latest is that he has messaged me offering $35 for the item.2 points

I just noticed something tonight while listing an item for sale on Mercari. I am new to selling on that platform so I am sure that some of you have probably already noticed this. Mercari charges 10% fees. But while building the listing if you list it as free shipping for the buyer then Mercari charges you 10% of the shipping fee as well (kinda like Ebay applies their fees to shipping costs as well). But, if you list it as buyer pays for shipping then you do NOT get charged the 10% on shipping. For example, if I sell a item for $100 and it costs $15 to ship this item nationwide (only option on Mercari) then I pay 10% of $100 to Mercari leaving me with $90 and then I pay $15 for the shipping leaving me with a take home amount of $75. However, if I list it at $85 and have the buyer pay $15 shipping then I am only charged the 10% on the $85. Leaving me with a take home amount of $76.50. Not a huge difference but one definitely worth mentioning, especially if you sell a lot on there. None of my listings on Mercari will be free shipping haha.1 point

I’m really stoked about this set. It’s unreal in person. Huge yellow box, pirates, castle, old school city folk, and a freaking roller coaster! I’m just a collector, not a speculator. Buy everything you can because dudes like me will pay crazy money next year. You get $40 off if you purchase 3 right now: https://shop-california.legoland.com/collections/legoland-exclusives/products/legoland-park1 point

I want to buy a bunch of these but the sets just seem so.....lame. The proportions are off, they don't have a name on the box, etc. Am I missing something here?1 point

Likely you get hit with dimensional weight. The EBay shipping screen does not take dim weight into account (though it would be trivially easy for them to do so), while FedEx does when it receives your package. As you ship a lot of air when shipping LEGO, dim weight can increase your costs significantly if you do not account for it when purchasing shipping (i.e. enter the dimensional weight instead of the actual weight of the package). Fedex dim weight calculator can be found here: http://www.fedex.com/in/tools/dimweight.html (EDIT: That link is broken ... haven't used it in a while .. here is the new link: https://pages.message.fedex.com/weight_calculator/)1 point

Based on comments on the files for this beast, it looks like buying extra copies of the set wouldn't even help that much. Predicted cost for parts (beyond a regular 71043) was being predicted around the $1700 mark + shipping. Yikes. Of course, I've spent well over that amount on worse sets, so I guess I can't judge.1 point

I agree, it's an amazing rendition but I think the part count is closer to 20k. That would mean four (4) Hogwarts sets ($1600) + extra pieces to complete this. If I won the lottery, I would do it in a heartbeat but since I'm not made of money... I'll appreciate the pictures.1 point

I just list with a flat rate that is the same for everybody, based on past shipping experience. Depending on the buyers location, I might over or under charge, but it all evens out in the long run. They know and agree to the shipping rate before they purchase, so there are no surprises, and it takes the guess work out of providing exact shipping rates. I’m in Wisconsin, so shipping to either coast is nearly the same, with the west coast usually being a little higher. I have noticed that USPS rates are a joke now for large packages. I used to use them for everything, but now FedEx is typically $10-$15 cheaper on average for large packages compared to USPS, and they get it there much faster. USPS now only gets my small stuff. Everything else goes FedEx.1 point

Yeah that's probably all I guess. I should understand better, it's like some graded baseball card packs I have that are worth $100-200 but if opened the cards inside are probably worth a few bucks. The value is in being unopened. 😆1 point

As for the parts, nothing special. Even that 20 yrs tile is not exclusive, it also exists in 40362 and 40333. I guess the higher price tag is just due to higher purchase threshold. If my memory serves, it was gwp with $200?1 point
-
I mean, I should understand this by now but I just don't understand the appeal outside of just the rarity of the bag. Maybe that's enough. There's no special rare pieces or anything right? Besides the 20 year reference?1 point

Quill.com is the best I've found. Higher price per box but free shipping, and there's usually a great coupon code. One time I got a free blanket! And it was amazing, till my daughter threw up on it. Couldn't get that barf smell out and had to throw it away. Tough times.1 point

PackagingPrice.com has better prices (a little lesser quality) than Uline and much better shipping (free over $500 and cheap flat rate otherwise).1 point
