  1. I saw the set built in store today. The dino is really big and looks cool. They could/should have sold it without the gate for half the price and it would have been a big seller.
  2. Town Gate by Lukasz Libuszewski
  3. Interesting to consider the differences in quality between Lego in house design and Ideas submissions. TLG obviously has piles of data showing which sets are successful and big sellers. This is why Milennium Falcons, police stations, and stuff like that get released every year. On the other hand, the Ideas models are created by fans who want to build and are not concerned by the financial part. The comment about the design being in house already is absolute crap. What else could they have said? “We stole this design just like ghostbusters”? But we all know they did. I think the previous Ideas looks much better anyway. Scale makes more sense and it has the vehicle. The only problem with the Ideas approval is it gets run through the Lego designer phase where they change it to their standards(ie the sales/finance team looks at it and finds out how they can increase the margin. This is where the cheese slopes and $ get added. The best example I can think of lately is Flintstones, with the fan model being so much better than the released one. I’m hoping to same doesn’t happen to the Tree House, as I’m very excited for that.

  5. I didn't realize the amount of criticism/controversy surrounding this set. Not to the level of GBHQ, but exact same principle. Ideas submission reaches 10k, Idea doesn't get selected. TLG releases their own version down the road with no awknowledgement of original ideas. Claims they had their own product in pipeline. Hard to ignore all the free marketing, target demo and advertising the Ideas platform provided TLG for this set. Even some form of communication from them would have helped. Either way, @$250 they failed for the correct market price. Maybe $199. Makes this an easy pass and I am a massive fan of the first film.

  7. I think this "D2C complaint checklist" (by Brickset user ccc) deserves a sticky somewhere on this forum Direct To Consumer set complaint checklist by ccc. Does it contain a vehicle alongside a main build? Yes - complain that it contains a vehicle, and that those parts should have been in the main model instead of wasted on a vehicle. No - complain that it should have contained a vehicle, and that unnecessary parts hidden in the main model would have been better used in this valuable addition. Does it have play features? Yes - complain that it contains play features, the design could have been improved without messing it up for play features. No - complain that it doesn't contain play features, you cannot do anything with it apart from display it as it is. Does it cost too much? Yes - complain that it is too expensive and would have sold better if they had made it more affordable. No - complain that they could have done a much better job if they had upped the budget and included more parts in the design. Does it have unique minifigures? Yes - complain that it has unique minifigures and that it is unfair to put unique minifigures in expensive sets as it forces people to buy sets they don't want just for the minifigures. No - complain that a set this size really should have unique minifigures as a selling point. Has a similar design been on IDEAS? Yes - complain that LEGO designers ripped off the design on IDEAS. No - complain that nobody wanted this set, they should have done something more like the one on IDEAS. Is it licensed? Yes - complain that they should have done it as an in-house theme as they would have had more freedom over the design and characters. No - complain that they should have done this as a licensed set to make more sales and to bring out minifigures of (insert licensed characters here).
  8. We are within 1 month of San Diego Comic Con 2019. Time to start a thread to talk about anything/everything regarding the show. I will be in attendance once again, and, wife willing, attending all 4 days plus preview night this year (3 of which I'll have my kids in tow).
  9. Figured since Max is on vacation I should be as well
  10. I just shipped 20 lbs for $4.54. Not sure how they do it, but I like it.
  11. Saw this in Store first hand and not only the Dino but the Gate are SHOCKINGLY large. This is a TON of Lego, beautifully crafted, with lots of clever nods to the first film, and for anyone saying they should have done the Welcome Center, you're nuts. That would cost Death Star money. Big fan of this set, 250 feels appropriate once you see it in person.

  18. its normal because over 10 pounds gets a higher percentage discount so the larger discount more then makes up for the extra charge for the 2 extra pounds
  19. Seller Central quotes me $4.88 to ship a 9lbs 18x14x10 box with FedEx. If I up the weight of the box to 11lbs, it is only $4.54. Is this normal? Can I ship my box claiming a higher weight, or will they charge me based on actual weight? Should I add some heavy cardboard fillers to the box to make it closer to the 11lbs? Got lots of scraps I want to get rid off
  20. People will pay lots for the box... because that's what people do. Outside of the tile on the front of it, it doesn't look like anything else is exclusive. If that is a sticker, and not a printed tile... well then, it will be easy to reproduce the entire thing minus the box and instructions.
  21. Same here - 3 Castles taped together (no extra padding), so the bottom one (with all that weight) certainly got banged up a bit while traveling cross country (at least it made my picking which one to open/build easier). One of the sets had an open bag in it, and the one that I opened (to build) had a bag that was open, but unspilled. Pretty much, If you put a finger on both sides of a bag and rub gently, it will open. Going forward, a new bagging/sealing process will likely be needed (as I would expect some bags to open in transit, using the current sealing method). Knowing how collectors are, I am sure that they must be having to deal with lots of complainers. I am more than pleased overall, as this is a brand new venture for them (untested, etc) - so some issues are to be expected, but I am sure that some people are being much less forgiving. By the way, I am up to the bag 3's - and really enjoying this great set!
  22. Yes - they are sold (by the designer) on rebrickable (around $15). https://rebrickable.com/mocs/MOC-24877/Raziel_Regulus/löwenstein-castle-official-expansion/#comments

  25. Today I am going back to work after an 11 day family vacation. This morning I am still trying to work up the courage to open my work email inbox. We rented a motorhome, and drove to Yellowstone National Park where we stayed for 4 nights, then to Custer State Park in South Dakota for three nights. It was a great trip, and a first of it's type for my wife and kids. I'd been to Yellowstone twice as a youth, but never as an adult. So many natural wonders to see in the park, and an amazing amount of wildlife. And now, reality calls......
  26. Just built this for Father's day...the Box has been on top shelf of office for months ONe of my best build experiences in terms of creative construction and design. The door hinge is almost magical yet ridiculously simple The raise mechanics of the rear wheels is one of the best features on any LEGO auto my only complaint is the optional rear tail...I love the tail on the real car, but the LEgo version is definitely lacking, especially rear view. ANyway, just stoked about the built and wanted to share.

  30. ^ I agree, but for me, they would have been better off creating a faux-modular Visitor Center that could connect to the previous Velociraptor Kitchen/Lab set. The VC could have had its back-side open and feature the Dining Room, Main Lobby, Dino Skeleton and Banner along with an exclusive T-Rex and 2x Velociraptors. You could have added the Explorer and some outside landscaping and have a footprint no bigger than the Pirate Roller Coaster. Then you create a Not-so-monstorous JP Entry Gate as another add on. They should have followed the HP style of releasing interchangeable sets that connect.
  31. Set up my Avengers tower at work with a little addition to display the main 6. Pardon the dust lol.
  32. I think the designer feels your criticism.
  33. Problem: When I delete a set from my brickfolio it does not get deleted. It remains in my brickfolio. Can you please look into this? Thanks in advance.

  35. can't keep sand baseplates in stock on amazon at $24.99 fba. making me sick with greed. next round is going for $29.99. remember when these were $5 (or less) everywhere... good times. even more satisfying is that my wife thought i was a fool for loading up on these and repeatedly said so. now when we go out and have a nice dinner i reminder her how many baseplates worth it cost.
