  1. my thoughts on star wars: my older brother was born in 1977, i was born in 1980, and my little brother came in 1983, the same years the star wars movies came out. we watched the 3 originals countless times growing up and had the lunchboxes, toys, backpacks, halloween costumes, pajamas, etc. it was fun to pretend to be our heroes from the movies and go on adventures and wonder what kind of awesome adventures the “real” luke, han & chewie had after the movies ended. 30 years later, disney buys star wars and announces a new trilogy starring our old heroes. great! this will be so cool! i go see the force awakens, and find out han solo was a deadbeat dad and has gone back to being a lowlife smuggler even when a new evil power is out terrorizing the galaxy again. he dies, and leia ignores chewie. there’s another easily defeated death star. ok, i guess i can get past all that stuff i didn’t like. looks like this new star wars is still going to be overall pretty good. seeing the falcon zooming around again was extremely cool. i like the new characters so far, i like the look of kylo ren. the last jedi comes out. i see it opening night. luke skywalker tosses his lightsaber over his shoulder. what the hell. he’s a grumpy hermit. he trashed his xwing. he ditched his friends, his family, and even his droids. he’s a jerk to this nice girl wanting to learn about the force. he tried to kill his nephew because he thought maybe he might turn evil!? what the freakin crap is this!? i hate this! they have ruined his character! i would be able to get past all the other ridiculous garbage in this movie such as the moronic phone call between hux and poe, the amateur green screen mary poppins in space, chewie the now useless pet dog eating a cgi owl, pod racing horses on a planet with only human looking aliens, a fake salt covered hoth planet...agggh so much crap in one film! oh yeah they also find time to kill off admiral akbar for no reason, and not kill off leia even though carrie fischer was already dead, and got rid of kylo rens helmet, so he can look weaker. and phasma! ha i forgot how useless she was in both movies! oh man what a flaming pile of garbage. and luke just dissapears while sitting on a rock! boooooooooo!
  2. Oops I did it again... For $175/local sale I bought a medium-large collection because I can't refuse Lego for under 10 cents on the dollar The lot will need washing, sorting, assembling... Fortunately a lot of the sets are 50-75% assembled to make pulling sets easier. I've identified 38 sets (not including smalls) at around $2400 retail and I still have to ID a bunch of Ninjago sets w/o instructions. There's a nice (ugh) Mega Bloks Halo collection that should bring $150+ (Pelican is $60 alone + 15-20 other assembled sets). Since I'm still working through a 115-pound buy from a year ago, I've probably bitten off more than I can chew. 3. Load a cart full of flat screens and roll it out the store without paying. The police will actually come to you. Much more efficient than smooshing bags.
  4. My single biggest complaint is that whoever decided to completely butcher Poe Dameron's character in TLJ should be taken out back and kicked in the head. How can you take the 'hero' of TFA and make him a completely untrusted loose cannon in TLJ? That makes no sense.... not only did they not tell him about the escape plan because the purple haired woman decided she didn't trust him (except that she's Leia's buddy from years ago and Leia trusted Poe more than any of the other rebel pilots) but there are thousands of people evacuating and he doesn't notice or figure it out? GMAFB. It's inconsistencies like this that kill TLJ for me (Poe was my biggest peeve, but there are a pile more)... It was Star Wars, there was lots to enjoy, but tell a consistent story or GTFO and go direct some crappy made-for-TV movies.
  5. Well, I guess you could say that it did set the tone for the movie.

How is that a shitty thing to say? He simply stated they had time to fix (Id use the word address) the Leia situation. I didn't read anything else into it. I'm, not sure how you did. Another thing... Whether you enjoyed the film or not, Did anyone think the Mary Poppins scene was... awesome? Good? Totally plausible? Needed to be kept in? Didn't need to be adjusted?
  7. Oh, the casino subplot was for character development. I thought it was 40 minutes of sjw garbage ?
  8. I just learned the birthday boy (the head/face) is modeled after the Lego CMF Lead Designer's son. Cute little green glasses!

No that was a metphor for them throwing away the Star wars we loved and replacing it with some sad husk which I hope is cancelled for its own sake.
  10. Yes! Can't wait for Slave Leia, 2.0, cougar style.
  11. An overzealous cs rep can force open an A-Z claim but you should be able to easily win it . I would politely reply that the window for returning or tracking the order has passed and there isn’t much that you can do about it . Any subsequent messages should be marked as no reply needed .

Definitely. Opened the box yesterday and all the bags are there. This is the one which we will build.?
  13. Policeman is the flattest of the bunch, and then his tile is obvious. If going for the flatter bags I think you will come across the cat the most. I usually buy about 40+ of them and do the bump codes with smooshing. I usually make 1 mistake, but this time I was 17 for 17. Bump codes are reliable within a box, but I swear I had at least one instance where I got packs from the same store, same seal code, different bump codes and got the same figure, and had I smooshed it would have been obvious.
  14. I bow before them how they were able to throw extra 500 pieces without changing much of the overall appearance with making this set 10% smaller than it's predecessor.
  15. Seriously? Just on top of my head: Scene 1: Rey is doing awesome lightsaber moves at Achtoo. Enter Luke with comment: "you did more in (insert time) than any of my other pupils". Scene 2: catch up with Poe, Leia etc. "Wtf, FO regrouped just (insert time) after we blew up DS3???? We better call Rey". Scene 3 (or somewhere in 1st half of movie): Flashback of what happened after Rey gave Luke his lightsaber

Oh, I think its well done too. I was just quoting the movie.
  17. Stopped by my local Walmart on a whim this morning. Found this: Managed to find this:
  18. This one just had more than its share of bad moments without enough good ones to balance them out. I think one reason why this will not live on in people's hearts is there was no great action or iconic moments that demand repeat viewings. We barely see any space dogfighting but get more time on slow moving bombers or escape pods. The fight with the red guards was kind of cool but seemed anti-climactic coming after Snoke bought it and the fan in me wondered why neither of them are using any force powers in that fight. The Crait showdown was lame with again hardly any dogfighting but just the Falcon leading Ties away and Rose sabotaging Finn's long drive to nowhere. As cool as the Luke-Kylo sequence is if you appreciate the idea of it, it's still over fast with very little fighting. More time was spent getting Luke from the cave to outside then in actual combat. The less sais about the casino horses the better. Far inferior to the pod race. There is nothing in here that ranks with the trench run, either of the Luke-Vader fights from Empire or Jedi, no big space battle or into the Death Star scenes like in Jedi, Phantom Menace or Revenge, and no ground battle worthy of Empire or Attack of the Clones. My then 6 year old son would watch the Geonosis battle every weekend for a year. There's nothing here I NEED to see again.
  19. Found a box that looked full at Walmart. Tried the 3rd from the back on the left... and
  20. Actually, that about sums up all the main characters... "very weak and disappointing". Seriously, what can we say that was positive? The fact the Rey, with no training, can use the force more effectively than Anakin on a good day? If they don't make her the offspring of two Jedi, how in the world do they explain any of that?! (BTW, I still highly doubt the child of trash. They still have a way out that Kylo Ren read her mind and that is what she thinks. But that does not guarantee that is the truth.) If they can redeem any of this, they might save the series. However, at this point, they've all but lost me. And I'm speaking as someone who got to see Star Wars (before it was called "A New Hope") in the movie theater for my birthday - a theater filled with 500+ people. I was pleasantly surprised by Rogue One, one of my favorites of all SW films, but I'm not even sure I'm going to go so Solo after the disappointment of TLJ.

Would The Force also have enveloped her in warmth and oxygen to live in space? That scene... oh that scene...
  22. They had time to fix the whole Princess Leia thing if they really wanted. You want to talk about putting the next guy in a bind, Rian did it by not taking care of her when he could have.
  23. On 1 hand I do not want them to recast, but on the other hand I am curious to see how much damage a recast could inflict on the franchise.
  24. That was just a fans' petition. I am curious how many of those who signed the petition like ep8
  25. Looks that way. Apparently going to a casino to make a political statement that had no effect on the story is the same as freeing a main character.

  27. Rian had complete freedom to change things in TLJ, he was not bound strictly by TFA. Blaming JJ for forcing anything on Rian/TLJ is just silly. So, whatever good or bad things in TLJ is Rian's responsibility
  28. Huh, I have met literally 1 person IRL who didn't like the movie. What I have seen is a lot of people online devoting their time/energy to a movie they didn't like.
  29. As someone pointed out elsewhere ... Saturn V has 1969 Lego parts and costs (in The Netherlands) €130 UCS Y-Wing 75181 has 1967 Lego parts and costs (in The Netherlands) €230. So that's basically €100 DISNEY TAX on the new Y-Wing set!
  30. Isn't putting unanswered questions the idea of cliffhanger? Afterall, it was movie 1 of 3. Not sure how the ending of 7 forced the next director to answer quickly. Rian could have dragged the answers to the end of TLJ. Heck he could have punted those questions to movie 9 and had the characters went on a different tangent in 8. Obviously he picked and chose what to ignore and continue from TFA and he seemed eager to go against some fans' expectations. The decision was Rian's to make.
  31. Sorry, the bucks stop at the director's chair. Rian could have easily put the tag "3 months/ 1 year ago" when we caught up with Rey & Luke, right after scene with Poe & the bombers. Rian could have easily put a time jump but he chose not to.

Thinking about that one could accuse Felicty and friends (Arrow) of being simaler to TLJ main charcter of old has legacy destroyed.
  33. I used to write smooshing guides, but the newer series have been ridiculously easy to smoosh
  34. He was easier than the girl for me. Once you feel the balloon, feel for a 1x1 tile. She had hair with ponies and the pointy birthday hat.
  35. There was a big time jump after Empire. The Force Awakens ending could have been pursued in any number of ways. Porg bait is not one that would top my list

    What's with the life preserver?
  37. For me, it was looking for the 1x2 tile and the 1x2 plate. He's the only minifig in the bunch that has those. Once I smooshed those, I knew I had him. I always try to figure out the one or two things for each minifig that is unique. Even the Brick Boy and the Brick Girl have a unique item.

"Just for you" - a big F-U from the lazy warehouse workers.
  39. Meh. I loved it. I've only met one person IRL who didn't like it. The Internet is a sad place sometimes.
  40. Back, and to the left.
  41. The Prequels were all about planning. The Emperor's planning. That's his best force power, anticipating the results of various actions all the way until his one screwup in Jedi. Because the Jedi aren't very good at seeing the bigger picture they are always reacting. And you know what they say about those who fail to plan. Anakin has goals but no plan, which is why he is always frustrated and easily manipulated by the man with the plan. This was one of the sublime delights of that trilogy for me, how it was all one big story and seeing Palpatine's machinations play out. Whereas for the sequel trilogy, the resistance "plan" is even more spur of the moment with Han just inventing the ability to hyperjump through a shield and Finn never told anyone how exactly they planned to shut the shield down. The First Order seems to have some plan in gear at least as they laid in the weeds building their killer planets and hyper space tracking. etc. Last Jedi showed Snoke coming up with a plan to finish his enemies off, though he was suddenly criminally unable to see his apprentice's intentions despite boasting about how he can see every thought. Now that emo is in charge, I will be surprised to see if there is a plan in the next movie. The resistance better get a plan as they were handed all their good fortune by strangers in Force Remakens and then had horrible plans from Holdo dictating most of the plot, and now have no military assets other than what fits in the glove compartment of the Falcon. On that point, Poe's plan was no worse to me then the rebels throwing military surplus at the Death Star, and only 2 rebel ships survived that, again due to timely intervention by friendly strangers. Poe's plan only failed because of one surprisingly competent First Order droid. Employee of the month that one
  42. Popping in here to say that The Last Jedi is my second-favorite Star Wars film (behind Empire, narrowly ahead of ANH). I'm a long-time fan (have ready every adult Legends and Canon novel), and I absolutely adore TLJ. I know a lot of people didn't like it, and I'm definitely not going to try to convince anybody to like something as subjective as a movie. This thread just keeps popping up on my homepage with a lot of negativity, so thought I'd bring something positive to the discussion thread.
  43. Ive bought a few of the $40 and lower sets for great discounts, typically 40-60% off. I rarely have problems moving these size sets for retail price or higher shortly after retirement. Lots of people will pay $20 more for a $20 set without concern, and it seems like the general public is unaware that this line is done already. I can see quite a few parents buying these for birthdays, Christmas, etc., especially the Harley Quinn, Wonder Woman and Batgirl sets, which are the main ones I scooped up. They will always be popular. Lashina and Bumblebee not so much.
  44. I was on the fence this time, but decided to check my ghetto WM to see if they had a fresh box. They had an opened box so I was not expecting much, but within 3 seconds I found the police officer, and then another 10 mins later I had all 17 thanks to Brothers Brick’s guide. Definitely easy to smoosh, except perhaps a few figs (I found the spider difficult to find). Opened them all at home and was 100% correct.

20 minutes before closing at Target I nicely asked an employee to see if any were in the back. She had no idea how to find anything in the stock room. Manager up front talked her through it via headset. She comes back with a handful. I’m thinking the rest are still back there and she doesn’t know what she’s doing..... And there’s no way a police officer is in the tiny group. Wrong and wrong. The first one I pick up is the officer Woo hoo! I fly through the rest and start laughing bc I realize it must have been an employee’s stash of one of each character including the officer. And the last was another officer.
  46. Ignore the "last Jedi is an abomination" complaints. It's as fun and entertaining as well as flawed (acting and plot) as any of the OT films individually. (I have very fond memories of the SW OT from childhood, but unlike a lot of people I know I'm when I'm wearing "rose tinted glasses")
  47. I watched the documentary, "Gringo: The Dangerous Life of John McAfee" and I'll never think of hammocks the same way ever again, totally ruined.
