  5. Did find these at a TRU closing. $221.98 is not a bad price. Really surprised to see all of these at a store going out of business but when they are not selling any for the inflated price of $369.99 on their website, I guess its not surprising. What they need is new ownership or someone who has some common sense running the operation.

  9. I don't know what LEGO is doing with the special black card. I was banned from Shop at Home over a year ago and I'm not entirely sure why, but I won't go into those details here. Regardless I still get e-mails about promotions and catalogs in the mail asking me to buy stuff I can't. My VIP account and points still work in store only. I never ordered the UCS Falcon and I've only purchased sets from my local LEGO store about 3 times in the past year. Having said that I received the black card in the mail this week and I have no idea why.

  10. Edit: as a consolation, when scanned it looks like all LEGO is 10% off, at least in my store.

  12. Spoke to a manager at a store closing and she said they were told all LEGO is going back and won’t be on sale unless it’s already on clearance. I also tried to buy the LEGO displays and she told me they were specifically told not to sell any of these and LEGO will be picking them up. Sent from my iPhone using Brickpicker Forum

  15. Here is a 6 month update for those that were curious. The ship has weathered quite nicely. The only thing I'm worried about is the sails, they look great now, but I don't know about long term. It has not been a maintenance nightmare, as a matter of fact, our cleaner fish and snails do an excellent job!! We get more comments on this display than any of our other displays....people love it!!! I'll post a one year update just for sh*ts and giggles.

  18. I would say for me there is a large element of nostalgia involved, for some reason LEGO is the ONE product that brings back the most vivid memories as a kid. It allows people of all ages to create practically ANYTHING. I also really admire the infrastructure they have created as a "building block" system. It is seemingly a perfect balance between minimalism and detail that has me loving everything they create. Couple that with popular themes / pop culture and you have a recipe that just works and drives a collector insane trying to fulfill their collection.

  19. Various Argos shenanigans. 12 Battle Packs 7.99 each 90 Batman Series 2 93p each average 63 Series 17 48p average 7 Baseplates 1.99 16 Ninjago Movie City Chase 6.99 16 Ninjago Movie Piranha Attack 6.99 36 Spinjitzu training 1.99 27 Ninjago Movie maker (whatever that is) totally free! That's going to be a fun time at the fast track counter, assuming they don't cancel them. Eventually ran out of small stuff at my two locals. £1500 retail for just over £500.

  21. Lucas was successful because he tapped into universal archetypes of mythology. There are various books and short films on the topic. http://www.starwars.com/news/mythic-discovery-within-the-inner-reaches-of-outer-space-joseph-campbell-meets-george-lucas-part-I I'm guessing Kennedy is saying B&B have demonstrated they can do that too, not that the new films will focus on mythology in the sense of old stories from Star Wars. Just my opin. Also, I would say that George Martin was the one who demonstrated he understands the power of Mythology, and B&B have merely shown that they can take insanely good source material and make it visually compelling. B&B without GRRM, who knows what the results might be?

  22. Makes sense, TLG (and certain others owed $ by TRU) may have some sort of agreement to recover their assets due to the bankruptcy proceedings. The LEGO brand is worth more than to cheapen it and allow TRU to liquidate.

  23. My local Lego guy says they usually end up here. I know it says "Return to TLG" on display but in reality, this is where they end up. YMMV.

  28. Received my ordered DB from Amazon UK yesterday. And thankfully in perfect condition! Sealcode was, if I remember correctly (not at home right now): 03S18. Funny thing is ... I had ordered it, received a shipping email from Amazon, then the next day an apology email came from Amazon stating something was wrong with the shipping and it got returned. A colleague who had ordered it as well had the exact same thing happen to him. But someone on a Dutch forum who had ordered it on the same day as me did receive his order last Saturday and complained the box looked like a truck had run over it, and he was contacting Amazon CS about it. Glad my resent shipment arrived without a scratch.

  31. An addiction for me. For most people I would say the oppertunity to build their own world much like mineraft/roboblox. The second driver to look at is that Lego is seen as educational by most parents who will buy it because education guru's tell them to develop childrens creativity. The third relating to parents is that some buy their kids more traditional toys to try to replace screen time.

  32. There aren't any new Generation Xers being made. So by saying "projected to pass Boomers" is really saying the Boomers are expected to croak in quantities that will dwindle them under the X'ers. Was that too pessimistic of a view?

  33. TRU store closing. 10% discount on most LEGO, so meh. But, they emptied the back and therefore there were some interesting options: 3× Batman Pod Polybag $5.39 each 1× 71301 Bionicle Creature of Stone $9.89 The manager who was removing the LEGO display cases for return to TLG approached me and showed me what he found behind one of them: 2× TLBM Bricktober minifigs pack - $17.99 each Paid with 7% off GC and added in a Valentine seasonal set ($8.99) to empty out the GC.

  34. It's a passion that is passed down from generation to generation. It is a product that attracts a certain type of person...usually smart, creative and many times...anal. Once people get hooked, they want more and more. They want to collect them all.

  35. I'd add that as long as you're selling sets that get sold fairly frequently, it's easy enough to check the difference in price among sales that have the box, instructions, etc. compared to those that don't. So you can see whether making the set whole is worth the extra expense. And if you're selling sets that don't hit the market very often, then you're dealing with a different animal altogether.
