you forgot about additional storage fees which specifically increase around the holiday season. amazon doesn't let your park stuff in their warehouse for free. coming up with a selling price is multifactorial equation which includes buyin that you can never fully know what your competition buyin was , understanding that the sales volume is here now and that you could sell 10x your sales volume if you are able to compete on price, not when your price gets here and that after the holiday season, most overstocked sets on amazon take a price hit even further than what they are going for now when there is drop in sales volume/demand that won't recover until tax refund season and people need to move inventory so they don't lose profit to storage fees as well as have cash on hand for after holiday clearance. 86 sellers on raptor rampage - that equals too much price competition. still the price has risen 20-25% in the last 3 months because of great demand. 106 sellers on 75094 - too much competition to expect any price increase. seller count was in the low 90s back in september. look at juniors police helicopter chase - a set that was clearanced for $5 back in may at walmart.com 50% off msrp - i posted it in daily deals. now only 8 7 sellers (dropped as i wrote this) under the main listing on FBA. i can't keep them in stock - they sell instantly for buybox which is $29.99. 6x my buyin with so few sellers of a set that has a high sales rank, then you can set your price and sit back. not so much with more than 6 dozen or over a hundred sellers with a relatively lower sales rank set. there you have to compete on price to make a sale. the price on this set literally rose by $10 while i was editing this - now only fba seller is $39.88. time to send some more in.

I saw few sellers from Zgorzelec/Gorlitz (border City between Czech, Germany and Poland) with ridiculous large quantities available, highly likely they get their sets from Kladno as well as WH in Germany. I Know "Kladno capabilities" .. trust me, its virtually just next door. Its impossible that they would get it somehow "officially" (i mean truck loads). Each employee is awarded among other incentives a certain (limited) discount that entitles him to buy .. umm. let say 10-20 average sets (1000-2000 pcs) per year at half a price. You cant steal anything from the factory - not even a single brick that fell on a floor hardly an entire box.. so they have to have their source elsewhere.. I have come across truly disturbing facts that while the ppl in the Kladno factory itself are guarded like prisoners (more or less), the 3rd party Logistics partner with warehouse in other part of "greater Prague" obviously not.. and that might be where they could be getting their loot from.. I mean.. if an avg employee buys something at 50 % of local RRP, he certainly doesnt sell it to you at the same price - where would be the profit? now these Logistics ppl.. if they are willing to sell the same set for 35 % of the local RRP.. I think everybody comes to the specific and exact explanation how did they land their hands onto it..

It's very streaky. This week I won 2 of the $5 bonus games. It'd been a couple months since that happened. I'll usually spend less time on the app when it's not paying out regularly. The hourly return is bad enough when it is paying out.

This week was the first time I’ve seen solo purchases of this with meaningful discounts in the UK - IWOOT had 100 at £39.99, and yesterday Amazon briefly price-matched. It’s the sub-£100, non-retired set that excites me the most in the current lineup. I know many here are branding it a flop-in-waiting, but I think anyone turning their nose up at it is going to regret it.

Maybe the only consolation we can take from all these re-releases is that they can't re- release them all right?????? It's safe to say that all the big ticket Lego sets are probably going to be re-released at some point though.

So I'm gonna weigh in here. I know there was talk pages ago about 'destroying the brand', 'not collectible', etc. I collect lego because of its quality. The rareness of the sets has nothing to do with it. Megablocks suck to me...in fact any knock offs suck as far as I'm concerned. As far as building toys go, it's Lego or gtfo. I do feel bad for the investors, but collectors like myself aren't going to care how many sets they rerelease. I realize some will, but remember there's a quality to consider there. As for 'where were we when the original was there'.......we were younger and had less money, so we couldn't get it.

This remake is different from previous remakes in that they aren't even pretending to have upgraded it. They are advertising it as the relaunched 2008 model. I bought a Taj used for $1000 a little over a year ago. Am I bitter - no I don't sell the sets I build. Would I ever sink big dollars into a retired UCS or large retired set ever again - HELL NO. Many many many afol brickpickers who have come into the fold since Taj was released would never have shelled out $1000+ for a used taj are quietly doing fist pumps that they will now get build a new mint genuine LEGO version of one of the great sets of all time for a pittance of what the outlay would have been just a few days ago. So many other things they could have created in lego form but they chose to "relaunch" the set that's selling for $3K+ in the aftermarket . what a surprise.

I know that it doesn't matter to TLG or anyone else, but I'm done buying multiples of anything except for a couple sealed collections I'll have to keep going (Ideas and modulars). Other than those two themes, I won't be buying more than one of anything anymore (and at most I'll only buy two of anything from those themes). I had cut my buying way back over the past 18-24 months anyway, but this rerelease has ended any interest I had left in messing with LEGO products for profit down the road. I sold my last sealed Taj and all but one sealed first edition 10179 (that I'm keeping) last year. In the last 3 years I've sold off a few hundred thousand dollars worth of my collection with the intention of holding on to some things and adding small amounts going forward. Now that this rerelease has come about, I'll be selling off everything I have left that isn't part of my personal building or small sealed collections. I'll still buy and collect for my collection because I enjoy it and like the product, but beyond that it's just another thing to collect now.

The point I’m trying to make is that it seems that people think those that are upset with this decision are also investors that have a stock of 10189s and are complaining about the remake because of that. It’s very much a “you don’t like the remake because you invested in it” rather than what I might mean in the larger picture. Just something I’ve notice. I’ll see if I can go back and pick out specific examples.

quit making to many themes, to many BS sets, way to much overproduction to where the stuff gets liquidated heavily at retail and in bulk through other avenues. Quit extending retirement dates because of a sales spike. Quit holding products who knows where then releasing 75,000 of a poly on a retailer months after it has no interest. Quit releasing the holiday sets that you retire on your website one year after with new print / batch codes. Quit giving out the same promos years later. Make some new concepts instead of just retiring the previous smaller set then releasing another. Those are all things that would help right the ship over re releasing the same set you've already offered before. People want new stuff when it comes to big sets. There are plenty of ways to get the retired sets that go to high for a cheaper price whether it be used or bricklinking if you are a collector and really wanted something you missed out on. The sales decline has everything to do with a glut of average or subpar / rehashed products and product that has been out way to long and should of been retired years ago. People only have so much money and 600 active sets just overwhelms customers and causes disinterest in the brand as well as retailers having to do drastic sales to move it.

While I agree that this does hurt the future of Lego collectibility, you have to try and look at it from Lego's perspective. This is a company that saw a significant enough decline in sales revenue that they had to layoff 1400 employees. They have to "right the ship" somehow, part of this process could be releasing retired sets. I know that a remake was probably in the works long before the earnings report came out but I would not be surprised if a bunch of these remakes is part of a contingency strategy that TLG created a few years ago in the event of declining sales.

I would say that Lego has shown its cards and that almost no set is safe at this point. CC, GG, and ISD are probably right around the corner, along with several other retired sets that are in high demand. I am guessing that the number of AFOL's that have come out of the dark ages in last 3-5 years has probably increased significantly. Lego is in the business of making money and they see a huge opportunity with these new AFOL's and remaking retired sets. Lego is no longer just a kids toy and I think they recognize that have to cater to their adult consumers as well. Not to mention if there are sets geared toward adults, Lego could increase their chances of having more life-long Lego fans. Having to buy sought-after sets that are retired for a small fortune can be a turn-off for some new AFOL's and potentially turn them off Lego altogether. Investor/Collectors/Resellers, whatever you want to call it is probably a small group compared to the AFOL builders on a global scale and there is a lot of upside for Lego in this market compared to the potential downside of losing sales from investors/collectors. I personally don't care for the new set or the original and probably won't be getting it. I do feel bad for those who are investors and are now seeing their profits erased. Long-term hold on 10189 NIB could still be there.

Exactly. While I understand the general sentiment here, I'm rolling my eyes at most of it.
