  1. I never have understood why people post pictures like this on their listing and enter their max quantity that they have. It's telling the potential buyer " I got plenty of these. No rush. Wait to see if the price drops further".

  7. After much research & deliberation this morning, we went into the store thinking we would purchase the Ferrari. However, once he saw the Fishing Store he started thinking about how he could get that instead. It didn't take too much arm twisting, but he now owes me $25 and walked out with the Fishing Store in hand. 2.5 hours later he's still building, and I imagine will finish it before bedtime. He loves it. Again, many thanks. Looks like Ferrari will be on his Christmas list. And as FYI -- Our store no longer had the Caterham. They did have a few of the Women of NASA on the shelf. Saturn V is still only sold upon request.

  15. You can try to fight it but your pretty much boned. Amazon has become a place where the buyer is always right so its easy to scam. It's infuriating. Try asking on the amz seller forums, you will get a lot more feedback there. At least it's just a $25 set. Many of us have gone through this with $300+ sets.

  22. It's also possible that person is posting it up to scare away resellers. Telling all BPer's, I got this, you guys get out of my way. I'm going to dump mine for $48 shipped before he drops his a bit lower.

  35. Don't get too caught up in something retiring. There are plenty of duds that retire, too. But, if you can get 75% off anything, it's best to grab it. It will retire some day, and even duds at 75% are winners.

  38. Kmart clearance deals can be exceptional even WITHOUT the use of points: found a 70745 Ninjago Anacondrai Crusher on the top shelf, didn't ring up on store scanner nor price-check at the register. Friendly lady took me to someone with a special inventory scanner, who said it was $2. Then, when I paid it turned out to be marked Clearance (which is 50% off right now) so got it for $1 before SYW shenanigans. Found more old sets, applied $5 off $35 coupon, which made my pre-points total $0.82. To top it all off, the register printed out a $5 on $5 Freecash coupon and a $5 off $25 toys coupon. Not too shabby.

  40. As soon as I saw the news I knew there would be a thread like this. And without reading I knew how many of the comments would go....... " it's the end of the world, how dare Lego do this to us and so on..... " Investment is a risk and you can't blame someone else if you've lost out on a set. I've made profits, and losses <cough> exo suit, is this Lego's fault? No! I've stopped buying Modulars since the Palace Cinema as the market appears to be flooded and switched to smaller sets and different themes. It is getting harder, but is still possible. In the past ten or so years, Lego has experienced unprecedented, and frankly, unsustainable growth. So they need to change their strategy to one of consolidation rather than the 'takeover the world' one they have had. Given the apparent continuing popularity of a set like the Tower Bridge, why not re-release a set that was only available for a short time and has been talked about by collectors and builders (not investors) for years. Now is their chance to get one. And if it does not sell, like the SoH it'll just be retired again.

  41. Possibly. Could also be those who came out of their dark ages after the sets were retired. There will always be new people coming out of their dark ages, or growing up to an age where they can afford this hobby, who want retired sets at RRP and not at reseller prices. With each rehash we've seen there are those applauding, and those who think the remakes are terrible for the brand. Then there are the hypocrites which are my personal favorite posts to read. Where one rehash is great (because they want it) but the rest are bad for the brand. We are all only as loyal as our own self interests. I try not to get too involved either way. Just follow the money. If the market changes, adjust with it or get left behind. LEGO is doing the same thing. Adjusting to the market to bring in business and make sales. We're all, including LEGO, loyal to the bottom line.

  42. I don't know guys. I don't post often here but I do own two businesses. Out of curiosity, after buying over 100 Lego sets, I bought a couple of those "cheap knock offs" as they are described here. I won't say which, but it starts with an L. I wonder if people who are critical of them ever bought one? They are exact duplicates, down to the books. There is NO difference at all. The pieces fit exactly the same, which is what I was concerned with. I have the Ultimate Batmobile, Monster's House (because it was retired) and the Grand Carousel (same reason). However, I was patient and just got a Saturn V last night on line from TRU. Here's my point: anyone describing those as cheap knock offs doesn't understand the problem, in a realistic sense, this must be causing Lego. Rumor is they are going to lose their lawsuit in China, as that is the way all the copyright infringement cases end up going. The only way I see Lego battling this is to rerelease the popular sets. People like me would have bought those sets from Lego had I been able to. I only got the Batmobile to see if the quality was continuing. It is. I read these posts and laugh. Lego is in no way looking out for, not is interested in, anyone doing this to make money. I briefly considered it, and for many reasons decided not to. This definitely confirms that the long term hold is now a very risky proposition, and one I would never consider getting into. From a business standpoint, Lego is very smart to go back to the well and bring the big sets back. And the overwhelming success of the MF is going to gurarantee that they are going to start putting out the higher end, more expensive sets. Remember, Lego is a business. What a fantastic discovery on their part: $350-$800 sets that sell out! We're going to see more of this. And what I think will happen is the party will be over when they put too many of them out. But, we'll see.
