It really feels like there are several camps, and each is in a different state of mind. The "buy and wait" crowd is out, as sets no longer seem to be rising over time like they used to. The "Amazon FBA crowd" has an insatiable set of buyers and can turn cheap Lego into profit without much effort or thought, so they don't care. The "just flipping some sets to pay for my collection" crowd is somewhere in between, depending on how badly they did selecting sets in 2015. But rehashing the same arguments on thread after thread is tiresome. Oh and the fourth is "bitter Euros", who are just bitter European resellers who complain endlessly and then come back the next day to continue complaining. You know who you are.10 points

So just to get away from the stock issue talk. I actually started building mine last night, I never had 10179 and have never even seen one, so the size of this thing astounds me. I'm building it on a 6 seat kitchen table and I'm still short of room. Luckily most of the build is modular so far, so I can put the main model to one side while building then add it to the frame when all pieces have been used up. I know that some are hard-core and want to build this opening and sorting all bags at once but I can't imagine the scale of workspace you'd need to do that. I'm around 1/3 of the way through the build and got through ep IV,V,VI in the background while building. Only annoyance so far is the stickers, why oh why could they not have printed them. Especially the large ones supposed to represent the corridors which are difficult to place and adjust. Yeah £650 is a hell of a lot of money for a retail Lego set, but I don't regret it for one second and those who are struggling to get hold of one, don't give up, it's worth the wait.9 points

Here are a few more that code works on. And I was wrong, it does work on some high value sets. LEGO City Jungle Air Drop Helicopter (60162) LEGO City Volcano Heavy-lift Helicopter (60125) LEGO Technic Porsche 911 GT3 RS (42056) LEGO Technic Bucket Wheel Excavator (42055) LEGO Technic Bucket Wheel Excavator (42055) LEGO City High-Speed Passenger Train (60051) LEGO Technic Mercedes-Benz Arocs 3245 (42043) LEGO Technic 6X6 All Terrain Tow Truck (42070) LEGO City Airport Vip Service (60102) LEGO City Volcano Exploration Truck (60121) LEGO City Volcano Crawler (60122) LEGO City Van and Caravan (60117) LEGO City Police High-speed Chase (60138) LEGO City Police Tow Truck Trouble (60137) LEGO City Great Vehicles Sweeper & Excavator (60152) LEGO City Great Vehicles 4x4 with Catamaran (60149) LEGO City Great Vehicles Pizza Van (60150) LEGO City Great Vehicles Race Plane (60144) LEGO City Service Station (60132) LEGO Technic Claas Xerion 5000 Trac Vc (42054) LEGO City Fire Boat (60109) LEGO Technic Ocean Explorer (42064) LEGO Technic Heavy Lift Helicopter (42052) This is not a complete or official list. Just those that I have been able to get the code to work on. They seem to be mostly Technic and City, but not all of them, as well as The Speed Champions. I was not able to find one Superheros or Star Wars that it works on. Check for yourself and you may find others that work too.7 points

I think that´s a very valid summary but it does not preclude people jumping from one camp to another as the market evolves. IIRC @TabbyBoy, @Ciglione, @KShine and myself (amongst many others) were certainly not complaining back in the day (we were too busy selling) when there were easier pickings from modulars, Star Wars and even City and the first IDEAS sets, which made a lot of people very very wealthy and saw no other way than the high priest of Lego investing @emazers business model. Another point is that the European buyers may be a minority on this forum, but Europe has a bigger population and GDP than the US. On the other hand, there is much greater diversity country by country and "union" is now an oxymoron. When some of us started saying there would be difficult times ahead more than 2 years ago now, we were a minute minority but we were proved right - within our market and selling context. It was clear that too many people were getting in on speculating with the same dogmatic buy and hold plan and no plan B. TLG already recognised falling US (and now European too) demand was one of the main reasons for declining results, so you guys are clearly not immune to the virus - maybe you´ll just catch it later. People with low budgets previously would buy the official lego sets. Even if they were more expensive due to retirement and scarcity. They just had to safe money for some time to be able to buy them. There simply were no alternatives. Now with the knock-offs they have a cheaper alternative. So they can buy more sets for less money. Just my 0.023 points

The nice thing about previous years was also that there were many more mom's and pop's shops to go to and find already retired sets at nice prices. So when you got home and you would be entering your purchases in your brickfolio those sets already showed a nice profit. That was awesome! And very satisfactory. Now unfortunately those times are over. Many smaller shops have closed or are already depleted by my dear collegues. Add to this that previously the investor community was more serious and did not have the urge to sell their sets at ridiculously low prices. There was more of a telepathic agreement amongst resellers to keep the prices up at a certain level. I guess many people here can relate to what I wrote above.2 points

At S@H, you can now get the Ninjago Green Dragon poly and the Lloyd poly for purchases over $50.2 points

I'm sure we all have funny stories, but this find was more random than others. I purchased about 8 lbs of older Lego that had been sitting in a garage. A lot of space stuff so my weakness.... Gosh darn it, they had a funky smell right off the bat. So bad I said forget it about stickers or anything else and put them in the washing machine. Better, but not good enough. 2nd time washing machine. After the 3rd time it was tolerable , so I start sorting........... A CLOVE OF GARLIC in the box?!?!?! Sorry, I had to tell that story. It's 1 am and I'm tired of seeing my MILF say backordered2 points

And henceforth September the 4th shall forever be known as "Ginger-Gate". Every year on 9/4 we shall hire bloggers to hype up a previously modestly successful gwp, and we will wager on which one will go viral. I am pulling for VW-gate. And would loathe Globe-gate as I just sold my last.2 points

I ended up just raising my minimum purchase. First $5, $10 and now $15. I sell sets now more than loose pieces. But I'll still get a larger order about once a month for $20 worth of loose brick and minifigs. Now, I kind of use minimum purchase as a way to control how busy I want to be. Or rather how busy my real job is, and how little time I have to dedicate to my store.2 points

10030 would be a very bad purchase if you're buying for investment purposes. Price has peaked with bogus bricks and also with the recent trend for remakes 10030 is a prime candidate to be remade. If that happens say goodbye to a large hunk of your capital. You just have to see the impact that 75192 has had on 10179. On the other hand if you're one of those collectors that must have every UCS set even though it has been remade and can take the hit on your outlay in the event of a remake (i include myself in this category) then make sure you get yourself a good deal.1 point

I just asked if the UPC was in their system. And it was. The price showed up as $799.99 and had something also that mentioned a free movie at the bottom of the internal page. Couldn't see more detail to know if it was some sort of promo. The woman said no stock was due to arrive anytime soon at locations. But she said if it's in there they'll carry it eventually. RWeb # 810544 UPC # 673419267656 http://barcode.live/?upc=673419267656 I tried to scan the barcode at Walmart and nothing came up. Haven't tried Target yet...1 point

Well, maybe TRU won´t be around by the time this one goes to general release. Of course it won´t be exclusive to TLG forever, that would be dumb. What will make it exclusive it size an price as many shops will only have it as a web order item.1 point

We had one, then we didn't, then I stickied it, then people said please don't because Amazon doesn't have enough deals. A little from column A, a little from column B. If perchance this thread gets added to, we can always revisit.1 point

We know now that Tumbler is a poor buy at full RRP but, at the time, it was considered a no brainer. Just look at all the pre release optimism on a similar level to UCS MF. Short life, unlikely to be remade, exclusive minifgure bladi bladi bla. That was the height of lego speculation - the day it sold out was the highest traffic on this forum and from then on, it has been a downhill slide pricewise. This set is still doing better than any 2016 D2C retirement.1 point

Got one at my store today. Can confirm no flag or anything with me having one on backorder from LEGO Shop at Home. First impressions....it fits in a Corvette . Had them keep the wheels and handle off so it would fit. Made it a pain to get it out of the store but a small price to pay1 point

I think it also really depends on what your intention was when you got into this 'game'. People who climbed on the "Lego Investing" wagon desiring > 100% profit (ROI) at the very least are now getting disappointed and turning away to other possibly more profitable endeavours. On the other hand for people who see Lego more as a hobby (for building and collecting), and selling some extra sets on the side to partly finance purchases for their own collections, have no reason to 'jump ship'. Sure, the days of "easy money" with Lego sets that automatically rose sharply in value over time are over. But it's still possible to find good discounted sets and sell them again at a 50% or better profit after a while.1 point

I have 'cracked' as well. Not only due to market circumstances but also because I need to free up the money to live for me and my family. At its peak my investment collection was at 540 sets. Now I am down to about 220 sets. Selling the big exclusives is harder than I thought. Eventhough I mostly only offer pick-up. My prices are very competitive. But still the market for them big exclusives seems stuck. I will sell almost everything. Except some sets I want to build and use for my city lay-out. Star Wars and others will have to go. Maybe in the future, when my situation has changed for the better I will start investing again. But on a much smaller scale and smarter. Depending the market situation at that time offcourse.1 point

I told you guys a few years ago about how people Crack investing in Lego, and there are alot of guys from 3 years ago that are not on this site no more, there always be people who crack. "As For Emazers well he will start to crack in about 5 years, I said I would stop buying when I was 70, so thats a year and a half. I figure it will take me a good 5-8 years to sell all my stuff. so I will take my half million dollars that I made, if I am still living I guess I will still be doing what I do now, except no selling.1 point

Just sold a 75192 UCS MF for $1400 on a CL sale. I really wanted to build this, but figured it was worth posting at $1,500 and seeing if anyone bites. It wasn't up less than 24 hours. I can wait for my own.1 point

I received an order for a quarter once. What's the point of spending $3 (after shipping) for 1 piece? Then I realized that I was screwed too. Paying ~5% on $3, not $0.25, plus the $0.35 per transaction fee. I sometimes wonder if people place those small orders on purpose to teach us a lesson.1 point

One of my great triumphs was this. Bought huge load of Lego on craigslist for $60. Clearly from the couple photos, it was worth more than $60. After several hours of work, ID'd a good 8 sets that were in there. Downloaded instructions, sorted minifigs, circled some parts that were in there. Took better photos of my documentation, listed set numbers, stated the risks involved, and included photos of some sorted parts. Sold it all on craigslist for $400 to an empty nester guy who spends his evening sorting Lego.1 point

This has been a very slow build with the kids (really my 7 yr old son) being back in school with common core homework and my job. Then sprinkle in the NFL season Anyway, we finished bags 7-10 since the last post here. We're getting near the finish line. The interior has been a great build experience for my son. He enjoyed building the pool table, beds and the lab. So far Slimmer and the Ghost Librarian are by far his fav mini-figs. The daughter likes putting the 2 recent TRU Disney Princess Beauty & the Beast builds in the Firehouse.1 point
