  1. Finished this over the weekend. Really enjoyed building it, and I'm glad I didn't rush through. Displays so much better in person. I've bricklinked a few extra parts to build some extra star destroyers to go along side and make a fleet. Next UCS IST.

  2. After selling a handful of these I thought it would only be right to save one for myself and see what all the fuss is about! A nice little set, going rate of £20 seems steep but that's rare parts for you!! Either way, it does look lovely next to my UCS R2 D2.

  3. I was able to pick up my first 75054 AT AT for $120. It is a used set but seems complete. Has the box, manuals, minis and all the parts seem there. Bags 6 and 7 are sealed with partially built legs.

  6. A couple weeks ago I walked into my store and saw three signs, $5 back on $25 toys, 60% off clearance toys and 75% back in points on clearance. I purchased (prices already adjusted for coupons): 9x 70793 ($5.32) Skull Basher 5x 70792 ($5.32) Skull Slicer 2x 70785 ($5.32) Pohatu Master of Stone 1x 70168 ($10.84) Drillex Diamond Job 3x 41077 ($10.73) Aira's Pegasus Sleigh 4x 75100 ($13.20) First Order Snowspeeder 1x 70727 ($13.20) X-1 Ninja Charger (bad box) for a total of $194.15. I used $46 in points, bringing my cash outlay (after using 6% discounted GCs) to $139.26. I received both the $5/25 over 3 transactions AND the 75% back in points, giving me $130.30 back in points. I just started spending those points yesterday, getting: 1x 41135 Livi's Pop Star House 1x 41174 Starlight Inn 1x 41173 Elvendale School of Dragons 1x 41098 Emmas Tourist Kiosk 1x 70778 Protector of Jungle for a total of $95 worth of points, with $35.30 remaining. This is still all for $139.26. And that doesn't even include the Raise and unmentionable bonuses received when purchasing the GCs, which gave me another ~$30 in points. Why didn't I start this a year ago before my two closest Kmarts closed?

  7. Thank you all for participating. All 6 coupons have been awarded. I was hoping to do a little challenge or something but I'm too tired to really come up with anything right now. Hopefully y'all can do something with that $150 in points!

  8. At my local Toys R Us, I found Ariels's Undersea Palace (41063) @ 40% off on clearance... ($42 CAD or about $31USD before taxes). I looked it up and was shocked to see that it is an easy double as this set has appreciated quite a lot since retirement. I bought all 3 remaining sets.

  10. Here's the three amigos who couldn't save the Death Star in Ep IV. I think the teal outline on Black in the older UCS sticker plaques offered more contrast. I liked teal on black over the dark blue on black.

  11. thanks target. went deep (50x) on the juniors lost temple 10725 which was widely available in quantity mint condition at nearby targets in tax-free NH so with red card discount came out 11.63 each (61% off bloated $29.99 msrp but hey its got a nice box). still some left at a few out of the way stores as well to keep an eye on in case they dip further in price. also snagged 3x minty 76055 for $32.76 after red card. hopefully the ninjago movie drives demand for this in the fall & holiday season <gulp>.

  14. To make sure it was complete I built the 6206 Tie Interceptor I bought used. It still looks sharp despite being 10 years old but would definitely benefit from an update with newer build techniques.

  15. Sounds like a good blog post for the site here. But here are my best practices: Never use them online. Only in store. As soon as they come in to your email, put the GC # and the PIN into a spreadsheet Add my GC to Apple Wallet (because I'm iOS on my phone), if possible. Screen shot the email (usually has a barcode and PIN) and save it to a photo album on my phone Good practice is to print out, as others have suggested. Just last week, I was auditing my records, and discovered that I was doing really bad GC management. I found two different transactions where I didn't get all my emails. I got 4 out of 5 from Oct 2016, and 2 out of 3 from Aug 2016. I called PayPal and told them the problem, and they were able to easily send me the full compliment of emails.

  17. From TRU 40% off First box came in today. I was worried they canceled the order or ran out. I got a notice about shipping on the other ones a day before this one. Glad I pulled the trigger no longer available on their site. Got them for 24 each after GCs. Happy with the 60+% off this set. I think it will do well. Good mini figs.

  19. A little reference for you in terms of ECT (Edge Crush Test) https://www.theboxery.com/ect.asp +1 to what @gregpj said. I would go with a Hvy duty box from your local HD or UHAUL. Remember when packing.....air space is your enemy.

  21. Haven't seen them so far here. It would be a steal to pick these up at 50% off at some point... And looks like TLG is back to using oversized boxes for the new SW wave.

  22. I'm far from an expert but my advice is if its full price no. I like Kanan as a character so I bought one but its definitely not a set that I would advise buying at retail price if your plan is to resell in the future.

  25. Tonight I finally finished off the UCS Tie Fighter while watching Episode IV. After sitting in my build pile since December, I decided to put it together doing 1-2 bags per night over the last week. Overall, I was very happy with the set. I'm not sure why such harsh criticism? Also, I disassembled and put away Technic set 42030 Volvo L350F Wheel Loader....primarily in order to make room for more SW UCS sets. UCS Slave 1 is up next.

  29. I use PostPony.com (for that, you're just printing USPS labels via their site---at a significant discount compared to paypal---no additional party physically involved) and U-haul boxes. I would tape a bit extra, but no reinforcement beyond that.

  30. That's awesome! I need to branch out since there isn't much left locally. I haven't had time for any road trips recently.

  31. I would either double box them for the minor additional cost or ship in a really good moving box from a place like Uhaul. How you pack the LEGO boxes inside will likely be more important to their condition upon arrival. Stacking should be avoided if possible and if you need to stack to make the parcel fit your box, then consider boxing the sets on the bottom and stacking on that box. Of course, this is all "worst case" scenario packing. I remember getting two Volvo loaders from Amazon UK and the box was all beat to hell with the corners having little rips in them.... inside were two improperly stacked boxes (stacked on top of each other rather than side by side like LEGO does) with not enough packing paper to keep them from bouncing around. I remember holding the box thinking great, these will be a hassle... nope, they were in excellent condition.

  33. Is it LEGO or something else in nice square boxes? Or sharp edges/pressure points? Cardboard boxes have two factors to consider - crush strength and puncture resistance. Most retailers only concern themselves with crush strength because those boxes are cheaper and weigh less. If you're all at concerned, double box and don't skimp on the tape. Tape the edges of the flaps, tape around the middles on all sides forming a + around all sides. The box is strongest when it doesn't lose its shape!

  41. The key to cutting a box in half and ensuring it doesn't lose it's strength is to cross-cut against the flutes if you can. Generally this means that the "height" of the box is reduced (as @pstebbing suggested) rather than the width or the length. However, you won't lose too much strength the if you're cutting the box in half the other way (length or width). If you are doing that for an extremely large or heavy set and you're worried, then just put an extra piece of cardboard along the cut sides for some extra strength and don't be stingy on the tape.
