10 years...10 years have gone by since the original in 2007. Did anyone really think this would be the Holy Grail of kits forever and LEGO would 'honor resellers as the kit soared to $10,000'? HA! I can't believe it took LEGO this long for a remake. I sold my last one two years ago sometime before The Force Awakens. LEGO didn't 'do it to hurt resellers'. They did it to make money. Disney bought Lucas Arts to make money. How old is Mickey Mouse? Nearly 90yrs old, and Disney successfully lobbies Congress to extend US copyright laws every single time Mickey's copyright is about to expire. Also Disney has publicly stated there will be a new Star Wars movie every two years. Do you think that means new starships and new characters every movie? Disney will rehash and rewrite the original characters a million times for 90yrs, just like Mickey, until Han Solo's great great great great great great-grandchildren are flying the Milennium Falcon, and LEGO will follow suit on the gravy train and rerelease the Falcon in all forms and themes. Heh...LEGO has been re-releasing Star Wars starships, vignettes and characters many times over even before Disney bought Lucas Arts and started the turning the wheels on the bi-annual cash machine. If anyone thinks any Star Wars UCS kit is sacred and off limits to be reproduced, then you are in for a cruel eye opener.8 points

Easter Win What You Want sweeps is a $1 doorbuster right now. Also, check your recent VIP Shop Your Way email - I got a $25 back on $60 coupon on one of my accounts (the other got another $10 back on $50).6 points

This isn't about the 10179 - Most complainers here are concerned (and should be concerned) about the continued loss of faith in the perception of value, in general. When nothing is special, nothing is special - and LEGO is just another expensive, disposable, plastic toy.6 points

I'm surprised at the high number of exclusions on their site. It feels pretty random to me. They had a bunch of completely sold out stuff listed too on sale. Seems like a waste to offer a sale on Obi-Wan Jedi starfighter3 points

Time for some updates - the last two weeks have been crazy in terms of sales. Of course my discovery of FBA helped (moved 30 sets in 2 weeks), but somehow also my EBay sales picked up at the same time. Guess that's tax refund time for you :). Some highlights: FBA: 7x 41074 Azari and the Magical Bakery - $44 (buy-in $18 after tax) 5x 41035 Heartlake Juice Bar - $35 (buy-in $9 after tax) 2x 70151 Chima Speedorz Frozen Spikes - $16 (buy-in $4 after tax. ROI exactly 100% after all fees and taxes) - YEAH, I SELL CHIMA FOR PROFIT! BO/BL: 1x 41074 Azari and the Magical Bakery - $35 (buy-in $18 after tax) 1x 75046 Coruscant Police Gunship - $80 (buy-in $37 after tax) EBay: 1x 21118 Minecraft The Mine - $159 (buy-in $57 after tax), but with $10 FVF promo - my last one, I had to lower my price a bit after the selling frenzy over the holidays but the promo covered most of the difference. 1x Christmas Bundle consisting of 40222 Christmas Calendar + 40223 Snow Globe + 30474 Reindeer poly - $73 (buy-in $1.86, take-home profit after all fees and taxes $54)3 points

If you think gullible buyers are the only ones buying these things, I've got a bridge to sell you. I would wager it's much more complicated than take your $10 and run. In the right circles, you can buy thousands of stolen credit cards for pennies per number. However not everyone can make fake cards to use at retail stores and online shops are getting better checkout systems that use the CCV and other two factor authentication (CCV plus an online password for example). Not to mention cash is better than using a fakes chip card for $50 in groceries to these asshats. I wouldn't be surprised if these d.i.c.k.s are setting up hundreds of fake listings across many different products and making random purchases with their stolen cards (guest checkout may have been a boon for some, but i believe it lets you pay with a CC). As buyers of their own listings they won't be filing any cases with eBay and PayPal. By the time the general public finds the listings and buys the rest, they've already cut bait and run. If I've thought of it, the dirt bags have too.2 points

I picked up Metalbeard's Sea Cow (minus Queasy Kitty) for $125. I've been wanting to build one for quite a while but couldn't justify buying a new one to open and build at current market prices.2 points

Exactly. if the grand-daddy of them all isn't untouchable, none of them are untouchable, and meteoric prices are no longer achievable. (some would argue meteoric price increases were already extinct due to all of us doing this on a public forum, but I digress). However, it also stands to reason they're much more likely to re-do sets that have more intrinsic popularity. The B-Wing isn't a likely re-do. So how many sets are truly impacted? Here's how all our brick folio's are about to be impacted if this truly comes to fruition. I wanted this Falcon set, bad. And can afford to spend 1500-2500 on a logo set. I considered it on several occasions. That was back when I knew I was never going to get one at retail for 500-800. Once I suspected I might (redo winter series, redo Death Star, redo Snow Speeder UCS) , I decided I was not going to pay 2500, nor 2000, nor 1500 for a really nice used copy. I was willing to wait. Now all UCS sets have that mindset. Heck, any super desirable set is. If you dispute the importance of the 10179 in Lego investing, well.............2 points

I believe Amazon has been redirecting all of quidsi's inventory to amazon for some time. They purchased the business to suck it dry of all their wholesale contacts and brands. I don't believe yoyo, soap, wag, diapers etc will be selling on Amazon rather Amazon will be selling all of the brands and items quidsi had access to (which it was already doing for Lego anyway). Lots of brands refuse to do business with Amazon so Amazon just buys companies that already have relationships with those brands and muscle their way in.1 point

In my opinion, the bogus bricks copycats are the most detrimental factor to the 10179 market and the reselling market overall. All one has to do is look at the recently sold on eBay. People are buying this junk. I do have some experience to back up my opinion as I bought and sold at least 25 - REAL 10179's in the past two years. Last year at this time (pre-remakes) I would have the used 10179 that I just received from eBay or Craigslist sold within a week; ranging from $2500 to $3000 profit of $400 to $500. Most within 48 hours and mostly to overseas buyers in Singapore or UAE. Since the remakes (and even before official 10179 remake confirmation) I STRUGGLED to sell one at $1800 couple of months ago. Just my experience, but these remakes have changed everything.1 point

What people should keep in mind is that ... 10 years ago, bogus bricks (and other similar Chinese knock-off brands) did not exist! LEGO could afford to retire an exclusive set and not respond to the MISB unopened boxes creeping up in value on the aftermarket. They already earned money on the original sale, and TLG could focus on developing new sets. The high profile collectable sets were even a blessing for LEGO because it gave the brand a label of quality and desirability! But ... With Chinese knock off brands now copying and cloning original LEGO designs and making good money on that, they had to do something... These clones, simply by existing and putting out clones of retired sets, are both diminishing the exclusivity of those LEGO sets, and making people (the average buyer) see original LEGO sets as overpriced. Releasing a remake of a highly desirable older set hits two targets with one stone: it destroys the demand for (poor quality) clone versions of the original set, and it lets TLG get in on the apparent demand for the remade set.1 point
