I don't know that this fits into "Retiring Soon" but I'll post here anyway and the mods can move me if I've incurred an infraction. I'll be mentioning the Simpson's House and contemplating its future, so I guess that's sort of "Retiring Soon." I'm vacationing in Bali, Indonesia at the moment with my wife. I see a Lego store in popular touristy area mall. I go in and get the distinct impression that nary a large set has been sold here in months. Two young male employees behind counter don't even bother to say hello or greet us (strange considering the people here are, by in large, friendlier than most places on earth). GBHQ is on sale for 15% off - doing the quick math from Indonesian Rupees I calculate that, at current discount and WITHOUT adding back in govt tax of 10% it comes to a whopping $380 in USD. Disney Castle (not on sale) comes to $492 USD after taxes. Simpson's House came to $352 USD after tax. And the kicker is that literally 80% of the boxes are beat straight to hell. Crushed, kicked, opened, warped from water or humidity - you name it. And there were dozens upon dozens of them. Just stacked up along the wall. Horizontally like pancakes. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure it takes a Herculean effort to get all these huge cardboard boxes down here to the middle of Southeast Asia in anything resembling mint condition. I'm not judging. But these boxes look like my six year old built a fort out of them in the backyard and just left it there for a few months while weather and the neighborhood dogs had their way with it. Point is this - clearly (and I mean CERTAINLY) nobody is going to be buying these. I mean, this country is very poor. A cab driver will wait four or five hours for you just to secure a $15 USD return fare to get you back to where you started. I cannot fathom any local paying two weeks' pay for a Lego Simpson's House. And no tourist is going to drag one of these back across the ocean (you need an entire separate suitcase for it) at this ridiculous markup. Heck, even at 50% off these things are never going anywhere. I was speechless standing there looking at the massive quantity of these and their price tags. So it got me thinking... where ARE they going to end up? Lego is eventually going to dump these somewhere to make room for other stuff that nobody is ever going to buy for 70% over MSRP. In some Walmart warehouse six months from now about 100 beat-to-hell Simpson's Houses are going to show up online at MSRP long after it's no longer available and the boxes will be like the December 2015 Target "Tumbler" lottery. As an aside, they still had a whole display full of all of 2015's vignette scenes (Valentine's, Easter, Christmas, etc) except for 40138 and 40139. They were all $17 USD. So basically like buying them on eBay back home. Anyways I just found all of this interesting and thought I'd share. Haven't posted for several months but I still follow every day. I have never seen a movie cause a spike in a retired Lego set's price. All the new movie will do is cause more clueless resellers to list in expectation of a spike and drive the price further down. A spike will happen once excess stocks are cleared. Going to be a few more years for Red 5, possibly longer if TLG keeps making mistakes and damaging the brand and its collectability.

Tell them you will not reward their lazy buying habits. You put in the work to buy this at MSRP or better when it was still available and stored it and packed it for shipping. Your time is worth money to and they can go (bleep) themselves. Merry Christmas!

The claim has been granted and the buyer was issued a refund. But the silver lining is that Amazon said there is no reason to believe that I am responsible for this claim. They have issued a refund but will not debit my account for the refund. Please consider this transaction closed. I am convinced that this came down to the paint cans from the Home Depot in the buyers neighborhood, and perhaps my long history as an Amazon buyer of Lego. I would like to write a blog article about this (unless everyone is sick of hearing about it) detailing what happened and what we all can learn from this. While it appears to have worked out for me, it clearly could have gone the other way, and has for other members here. There is a huge lesson here, and I wold like to share it with all so that they can avoid the stress and possible big loss I was facing. I will only be selling expensive items on Amazon FBA from now on, if at all. In my 16 plus years selling on eBay I have not once had such an experience.

Maybe it's because LEGO never sold a single SW set to any SW fan but only to resellers. Maybe the whole theme, maybe TLG's whole business is carried by investors.

My two cents. Anyone bailing on 10240 should at least wait to list during opening weekend of rogue one. Guaranteed many people will be looking for an original trilogy xwing!!

o Like others have said, lots of competition for your buyer's money in the SW UCS line alone. At the end of the day, the average consumer probably has a finite budget for LEGO purchases in a given month/quarter/year. A new investor/collector (I'll assume the more seasoned veterans picked up the Red-5 during it's retail lifespan) could drop something like $1700 U.S. dollars to purchase the six currently available sets. Throw in the other large exclusives for your buyer's consideration and the choices are not only staggering, but likely financially overwhelming. DS $500, SC $300, EV $250, AOH $250, Slave 1 $200, TIE $200 o Buyers trying to pick-up Sandcrawler and/or Ewok Village sets before their rumored retirement? o Shift in buyer attitude away from excitement and "must-have" when thinking about UCS sets and more towards fatigue/resentment/boycott after the AOH and DS offerings of 2016?

Post of the day! And we already had a new movie last year. How many new Star Wars movies need to come out? 4 each year? A good set is a winner even without a movie. Hence, I believe Lego City is the best selling theme ever. I cannot recall any movie about that theme.

So there are not only fools amongst Lego fans or overall population. There are also fools amongst lego resellers. And we are even worse. Cause we seem to follow eachother's foolness blindly without thinking. I guess the latter is slowly changing for the better. Especially when seeing the retiring soon sets still being available.

Not only today. As I am thinking to rebuild my Lego City I downloaded the Lego Digital Designer program yesterday. It is a very helpful tool and it kept me up and busy most of the night. Some sets are really difficult to integrate and you need to be very creative. It is very time consuming if you want to make it the way you want it. Still contemplating if to use the street baseplates or make my own with standard baseplates and snots. The latter will mean alot of pick a brick orders as I have very few spare bricks left. Also it is really a challenge to integrate trains into the setup. I am full of awesome ideas but any tips and advice are always welcome.

Cleaned out my local TRU of Jurassic world today 1x T-Rex Tracker 1x Pteradon Capture 3x Dilophasaurus Ambush Unfortuantely all were full RRP which did have me standing in the store for ages thinking what I should do. The fact they are all pretty much retired and I got 2x£20 vouchers pushed me over the edge in the end. I don't mind holding em for a while either. I think I've got a problem!!!!

I think the only thing that might swing the case against the buyer is the Home Depot address on the returned paint cans. If that address is close to the buyer's address and the seller doesn't live anywhere close then that could be seen as third-party proof of a scam. A recent date on a label would also help. Either way, this buyer is going on a watch list for any other future shenanigans.

Somehow when I read "Moana on the High Seas" I hear "Moaning on the High Seas". Bad title.
