Hi guys, so I have finished another micro moc landscape. This time its of one of my favourite scenes from The Force Awakens. The crashed Star Destroyer is such an iconic image from not only the film but the trailers as well that I just had to make it in lego form. I am really pleased with Rey's speeder. I didn't think I would be able to build it at this scale but actually I think this is a pretty good representation. At only eight pieces I dont think its going to get any smaller either! (I did have one version with one less stud at the back but it looked too blocky) The Star Destoryer is a slight variation on a polybag release with a few tweaks. I was going to design my own from scratch but actually once I built this I felt the look, size and dimensions were pretty much there and just needed a few extra bits added. Overall I am really pleased with this build but as always I would love to hear your feedback and advice.14 points

Nope ... but I built this instead: The 75828 Ecto-1 on the left was my $24 Ebay score from last week - Vehicle only, but it did include several minifig tools (blue toolbox, 2 ghostbusting apparatus) and ... surprise surprise ... Patty's hair. Sent the seller a message to see if (s)he needs this back, given how crucial this unique hairpiece is.9 points

This has been a very slow build with the kids (really my 7 yr old son) being back in school with common core homework and my job. Then sprinkle in the NFL season Anyway, we finished bags 7-10 since the last post here. We're getting near the finish line. The interior has been a great build experience for my son. He enjoyed building the pool table, beds and the lab. So far Slimmer and the Ghost Librarian are by far his fav mini-figs. The daughter likes putting the 2 recent TRU Disney Princess Beauty & the Beast builds in the Firehouse.8 points

Biggest set I've ever built. I was not a fan of no bag numbers but I'm happy with the finished product! Starting Big Ben now (as you can see)7 points

More of a "what did you build the past month or so", but i've enjoyed some great builds here at the end of summer / beginning of fall. I'm late to the Modular game, but after building the PR awhile back I caught the bug and really enjoyed the Pet Shop build. I agree with a statement someone made somewhere on the forums - everyone should have one of these. I missed out on the snow speeder when it was sold at retail but managed to snag a used one off of eBay for about $25 after I sold off the rest of the lot. So much nostalgia with it! I know this isn't anything new, but this was my first Hoth set - I was so close to rushing out to buy an AOH except for the obvious: no AT-AT available at non Brickpicker prices. Such a missed opportunity for LEGO... That said, the IST brought redemption... Wow, awesome! Love it! I bought it off Amazon early this year back when I thought 17% off was a "good deal" (thanks BP community for setting me straight on that one), and even though I'd have loved it for cheaper, it was still well with the money. Lots of great thoughts on this board about the future of LEGO (and of course investing), but these three builds have reminded me of how much I love building with LEGO.7 points

The 'retiring soon' tag is back at Lego LEGO Shop at Home. Only one item has been labeled atm and it might come as a surprise... 21304 Dr Who. Unleash the horde...4 points

The right time to sell is when you feel happy with the price you will get for it. Arctic plane, which was a similar priced short run set from 2015 continues to appreciate but it´s non licensed. When JW line disappears this winter, RE will have no direct competition to cap its price so I expect that winter 2017 will be the optimum time and that prices won´t go up much more after that. Another movie and wave of licensed sets is a risk not to be discounted.4 points

Well, my order cancelled rate was around 40%, but I put in enough orders that some good stuff came through. The eight Brick Bounties were the highlight, some Poe's Xwing at 50% off, Phantoms at 20% off, z-95s at 50% off, some Coast Guard 60014s and a couple trains all are 'available for pickup' this morning. Hopefully 7 or 8 cards come in the mail in a couple weeks (one order was part cancelled so not sure I'll get the promo card with it). I did get a bunch of cancelled orders, too, though. Ridiculous online stock system.4 points

There's still time to build these today. Well, here are a few small builds from myself. 75011 Tantive IV & Planet Alderaan: Alderaan is the plant resembling Earth the most, and I can imagine using it in a museum lobby in the future. LEGO Dimensions 71228 Ghostbusters (Ecto-1/Peter Venkman/Ghost Trap): I wanted the non-slimed version of Peter Venkman to add to the Firehouse Headquarters when I get that set at some point. Also, I was surprised that the Ecto-1 build is obviously supposed to be the full car as it doesn't look that way on the packaging with only front wheels being visible.4 points

Undercutting leads to more undercutting. More undercutting leads to hate. Hate leads to suffering. Suffering leads to...I don't know where I'm going with this.3 points

Quit being "that guy". Match lowest, don't undercut. The sales will come.3 points

Movie-licensed sets are a different story than TV-series-licensed sets. For TV series it's much harder to stand the test of time or even become a classic. The DeLorean had never been in need of anything new running on TV or in cinemas for the set to gain value post-EOL. The movie trilogy from 25 years ago is a classic and will always be enough to drive interest. Look at what went on with the SW line when there were no new movies (sellers' target audience being AFOLS) for many years. For TV series it just doesn't work the same way. For these sets it IS important to have something running at the moment or something new coming up. However the Doctor Who set being labeled as Retiring Soon in SEPTEMBER says it all, for me it's not hard to imagine it will yet make it to the end of the year sale... All non-UK sellers should avoid this without exception. In Germany the TV series is more or less non-existent. 3 sets sold on Ebay in the last 3 months... This set is like an open grave for any dollar invested - easy to fall in, extremely hard to get out. I agree with you that TBBT is likely to be just as unsuccessful for LEGO as Dr. Who.2 points

Received all the Wave 6 Lego dimensions sets. Pre-ordered on amazon when they were all 40% off.2 points

Perhaps it is just an expensive license (plus paying the designer) so it's a matter or demand vs production cost. If demand was the only issue, TBBT has been heavily discounted and has even been given the SAH extra VIP points bump. This one hasn't really been available below retail in the US without coupons/GCs etc. Side theory: Sets with less demand like TBBT are allowed to linger since they are owned by WBs, which has a lot more properties that Lego wishes to continue producing, while the BBC doesn't. Lego used their license to make a few Doctors, a companion, Cybermen, a Tardis, and 2 versions of Dalek. They don't see much room for growth and recognize they have to retire something in the Ideas line with new sets on the horizon. Wall-e (Disney) Ecto-1 (GBHQ pairing/good seller), Maze (new), and TBBT (see above) all have reasons to stick around. This one probably doesn't. Renew the license with no new sets to make, or just do a Scrooge McDuck dive into your 1-year Doctor Who profits and start pushing that yellow car thing? Sorry for rambling, just taking you guys with me through my thought exercise on this one...2 points

Great setup! Is that a three set build? Two of my favourite pics from my latest micro landscape MOC. This is the crashed star destroyer on Jakku.2 points

I've caved a bunch, sell 5, bump price, sell 2 bump price, sell 5 bump price, and the cycle continues.2 points

I consider myself a WalMart connoisseur, so I can confidently say that WalMart doesn't really care about looking bad; especially if it's comparing itself to it's patrons.2 points
-
Sounds like that is prominent across the country at walmarts. I don't understand why they can't train their employees to read "do not put out until the 30th".. In the end, it just sets a bad precedence when someone thinks they can buy these, since they are out on the store shelves, and they take them up to the cash register, not knowing about force friday, and then are rejected by a computer. In the end it just makes walmart look bad.2 points
-
Same here - and they are automatically cancelling the order if I don't go to a page to confirm I still want it, and that page somehow comes up totally blank on my computer .... sounds like a case of sellers remorse.2 points

The extra 5% off on LEGO ended. I did not know I would miss those $2-$5 discounts. Every little bit helps2 points

I'm a fan of the Microfighters and the 2017 wave looks pretty awesome. BTW, shout out to @CM4Sci for all his awesomeness! Thanks!2 points

Well the good news is it should only take the horde 4 years to sell through their stash so that should leave 6 months or so to make your 20% profit before the pics of the remake are leaked.2 points

I know a lot of people here are resellers and have great advice, however, my humble advice as simply a customer (collector) trying to play catch-up on sets missed while I was in the dark ages: it depends on if it is partially built, etc, but basically: Detailed photos of what is built; any remaining unsealed bags, instructions, box if applicable; overall photos (showing everything in a single shot); and post-breakdown photo of bags showing organization (i.e. parted by color / size / type / floor) and of course, the description explaining it (i.e. LEGO modular built and displayed only from a child/pet-free home; please see photos of various angles of built item; in addition, carefully disassembled and bagged by floor to provide safe shipping and allow you to enjoy a stress-free build.).2 points

Kylo command shuttle .. Used the original kit.. Then added 40-50 extra black pieces a lot are minifigure base plates, black tiles and cheese slopes.. Took away a lot of the light grey pieces.. Added a Radar. Changed up wing tips . Redesigned front end. Covered rear showing technic holes on main cockpit area. It's a work in progress I guess.2 points

Hi Folks. I'll do the same as last year (copying Mos' original idea) to support the children of NJ's St. Paul School. For each "LIKE" THIS SPECIFIC post gets, I'll put $1 toward the raffle. Thanks, JA Is Online2 points

So why is kmart struggling? Could it be the practice of shipping one set (ordered about 10 sets over past couple days from them) on an order placed a couple days ago with free shipping selected. No packing at all. Thankfully only minimal damage to a corner. Win for me this time, but we all lose if they go out of business.2 points

its the name of the game. win some lose some.. we can only hope that we are able to select more winners vs losers .... regardless you are good that you have more winners. { not in my case ... more losers and shelf warmers LOL}1 point

You would think that with the preorder happening over a month ago they'd have time to get their stock straight. What's the point of a preorder without release day delivery? I'm so angry1 point

Bag copyright date is always 2011 for this style of bag. The new style of bag has a white strip down the middle and (c) 2015. Has nothing to do with the date of the set (apart from providing a lower bound on the latest availability date of the set).1 point

I assure you 10220 has been hoarded in massive quantities for many years. Nobody snoozed, but there is a very good chance everyone will loose with it. Nothing like TH at all.1 point

After going through all the leaked photos (thanks for posting @CM4Sci) looks like I'll be able to save quite a bit of money next year. Y-Wing would probably be my only purchase out of everything. Not even a decent City set to add if you already have the last bank heist. Hopefully the exclusives give us something to drool over.1 point

That´s a good point. It takes so long for the web to load these days that I haven´t bothered to look at other regional sites, I just assumed they would be the same. With the old site, I do remember that, on some occasions, stock info was different between UK and rest of Europe.1 point
