And remember: Excel (or any other spreadsheet) is your friend. Keep a list of all the pieces you need (extract from BL), and keep track of what you've purchased from where and how many (plus cost + shipping if you want to find out how much you saved versus just buying a used one). BTW, unless you're really strict on yourself, you might find you get close to what you would have paid if you bought a new one ... And the obligatory warnings: You will most likely run across incomplete orders (i.e. you ordered quantity X from a BL seller, but got X-1, or got a different part or something like that). Plan for this - unless the part is really expensive, just buy a few more than you need (if the seller has them available). And you will inevitably go hunting for that cat, or that lady minifig, or those sand green bricks with groove etc. Resist the temptation, you must.

Picked up a CL lot from RI for $550 the other day which had a complete Town Hall as the main selling point. So far sorting the 75+ lbs or so it has about 30% non lego. 100+ minifigures I'd guess. Lots of instructions too. I'm now pulling out a 6211 and a 7665. Here are some pictures. Top two are the ones they had built. The bulk is a horrible mess of pieces. I'll sell it off after cherry picking.

I could fill the whole thread with pictures from this absolutely amazing LEGO Train display by PennLUG and Texas Brick Railroad, but will just post a few and a link to Cale Leiphart's Flickr stream which contains hundreds of pictures. Well.... To top my 25 Hearlake Highs and 35 dollar Olivia's House, My local walmart had an Ultimate McQueen from 2011 today for 23.00, a Skipper Flight School for 11.00, and a 75019 AT-TE for 49.00. They also had some castle, galaxy squad, Hobbit, and LOTR, and some other older sets, but nothing of value. Looks like they are clearing out the 8 trailers they have sitting out back.

Found another The Ghost at a local B&N, RRP - 10% member. Went by a closing KMart and picked up Friends Rafting, Frozen Sleigh Ride, and Elves' Skyra Castle all for 40% off plus was able to use a SYW $10 off. Could've arm swept multiples of each, but I haven't fallen down this rabbit hole far enough yet to start arm sweeping. But if you're an arm-sweeper who's anywhere near Jacksonville, FL, hit up the San Jose Blvd KMart. And PM me, because I'd like to meet a fellow Lego-fiend locally that I could talk to about Lego without getting a glazed look like I get from anyone I mention this hobby to, while they contemplate why a 41 yo man is talking to them about toys.

I would use the resources that other provided to obtain a parts list. I actually bricklinked very few pieces. What I did was: 1) Go through the bulk I already had and found about 30% of the parts I needed 2) Ordered new parts directly from Lego.com about 65% of the parts I needed 3) Bricklinked remaining pieces (maybe 5%) of the parts I needed I was able to have almost original pieces except for the following: - Sand Green 1x4 (instead of 1x8) - Sand Green 1x2 (instead of 1x2 with groove) - White cat with no eyes - Med Gray Columns instead of Earth Blue - Black instead of Med St-Grey 1x3x2 Bow - Blue instead of black door - Dark Grey instead of Earth Blue 1x5x4 Bow - Plain instead of Printed Flat Tile 1X4 Rune Stone There were some important substitutions but I kept track of what I changed so that I can buy the original pieces one day if I wish to make it more true to the original. It was pricey then (almost 2 years now), but I think it is more now because of the scarcity of some of the pieces.

I'm not a fan of the set. I'm sure some kid right now is starring at it wishing he could get the set. 5-10 years from now the little kid will grow up and eBay the set, if that made any sense, and buy it. I don't think many people will hoard this set, if they do they'll sell it come a year or two from now. Reasoning behind that is because I feel new investors don't like holding on to sets for 5-10 years. Again just an opinion.

Unintended virality? I think they just made up a new term. This could be a game changer if other retailers start using this. Everything we do here could be considered unintended virality.

Built Berlin yesterday. It was a quick one. It's hard to shoot these short and tall little landscapes. That big tower in the middle poses issues when you have so little horizontal element to help balance the frame. I have a couple images where the entire frame is in focus. I stacked 2 images in photoshop and blended the focus so it appears as if the entire image is in focus. That's the photography side of me coming out, some would call that dark ages talk.

I just placed my order. Bought $160 worth of books to get the full deal. I hope it goes through.

My 11 year old daughter loves the modular sets. (I'm so glad she moved on from the Friends line!) We have every set from GG on but I have personally only built GG Wifey built PR and I helped her finish it off. Daughter built all the rest except TH as that is the last one to build for our city. Between mine and the boys Star Wars sets and the modular and city sets, we are slowly losing our basement to Lego tables. We have 5 with 2 more getting purchased this weekend. The only problem with a wife and a bunch of kids who love Lego is that I don't always get to build the cool sets.

Anyone watching the new version of Voltron that premiered on Netflix this month? Digging it so far. I'm 3 episodes in. Lots of great nods to the original but they are putting their own spin on it which I'm really enjoying. Cast is pretty good. There's someone from The Walking Dead playing one of the main characters, along with some veteran voice actors.

Did s search online for target with the DCPI number 204-00-1379 and found all locations ( Tulsa,OK) had hundreds in stock. I had been to 2 previously and not one to be found. So after I saw 279 in stock at one store - I asked an associate who brought me a case. Not one Disney minifig on the floor. ( side note... The sweet 80 year old man checking me out kept arguing that the entire case was $3.99) ( I couldn't do it - when he finally added 59 more he said " hot diggity!")
