  1. It was named that way to confuse the crooks trying to escape the prison island using this aircraft. Crook1: What's the hold up? You said you were a helicopter pilot? Crook2: Thiz thing iz not a helicopter, it'z a plane. I never flew a plane, ze controlz were different
  2. Think of it this way. You see the figs, they're right there in front of you. Buy em now! People say that's it and people say there will be a flood. No guarantee on anything but what's in front of you.

anytime I hear once tagged on the end, I go straight to Johnny Dangerously. Great movie.
  4. This month's Blocks mag (issue 21 / July 2016) has a great article about Adam Reed Tucker. Tucker is the person who devised the Lego Architecture line while an AFOL and then a LCP (Lego Certified Professional). Here is a concept model of the great pyramids which was never made.

  6. Finally got my quota on the Slave 1 at Toys R US. With the 20%, Gift cards, Rewards, etc, got these 2 for $77 and the other for $33, so it brings me to 32 of them, I am done with these. I would say with getting some from Lego and Toys R US with all rewards,Vip, Coupons. I would say I got them for about $100-$140, I will be getting the Tie Fighter now as 8 more will bring me to 25, but shooting for 30. It seems that the Toys R Us stores gets one case, 2 of these every month, so finding them is tough, and another thing that sucks is alot of stores whats you to bring up the empty box on the shelf so they can check to see if they have any in the back. 7. Can I switch things up and share a positive experience? True story. I sold a complete set of Disney minifigs on eBay. I listed that they were still in the original bags, but I put a small cut in them to verify contents. Shortly after I received the money on PayPal, The buyer contacts me. The lady apologizes, but she claims I gave her two stitches. She's missing buzz light year. Which made sense to me, because I had recently went over my inventory of loose minifigs and was short a stitch. I go into customer-service panic-mode because of all the stories I've read here about buyers filing a complaint and getting their money back over the smallest inconsistency in their order. I'm a new seller and my feed back was only like 24, and more than half were from buying. So I immediately apologize for giving her stitches. But then she sends me a request: if she mails me one stitch back, will I please mail her the missing buzz light year. ?? She's asking ME to trade a stitch for a buzz? The buzz I rightfully owe her. She even says she's willing to wait until I get my stitch, before I give her a buzz. Now I'm getting paranoid, she's too nice. I am of course going to give her a buzz. And I'm certainly not going to wait until I receive a stitch. But What if she never sends a stitch and just wants a buzz for free? Who doesn't want a free buzz? What can I do?!? So I tell her I'm going to give her a buzz for free, gonna send it right away. I offer to send her $2 to pay for shipping my stitch back. She refuses. Doesn't want it. She compliments my package. Kids love the set. She just wants a buzz. Long story short, I roll her buzz with a pair of Washingtons. 'Cause I know she likes the way I pack it. And I got my stitch back and a great review on eBay. Disaster obverted. There are kind, generous people in the world.

  9. Forgive my aviation ignorance, but isn't this more of a plane, and not so much a helicopter? It has 2 propellers, and no rotor. It is definitely titled "Prison Island Helicopter" though.

Better price during TRUTH this week.
  11. For those of you scratching your heads - TRU has no affiliate program for Brickpicker to participate in, so buy away via SYW guilt free.
  12. This is probably being frowned upon here. I flipped a 10253 Big Ben with €50 profit, get a free 40221 and VIP points. Honestly I'm just listing not expecting any interest but am pleasantly surprised.
  13. Some of my thoughts after building this the other day: As far as accuracy, scale, and displayabilty of a Minecraft set; this is best looking one. It's also the set that looks the most like a Minecraft set. The others don't necessarily look as much like their source material. Or maybe this one just captures the "essence" of Minecraft better. The play features are hidden wonderfully (the few there actually are). And it just feels like a true Minecraft set. Now that's not to say it's perfect or that i think it's worth $250CAD... The Watchtower and Market are definitely the weakest parts of this set. And i think trying to throw in multiple Biomes (while appreciated for the varying parts) doesn't work that well. Snow, Jungle, Grass, Desert all in one Village? ehhhh. The actual houses themselves are pretty cool, however i do feel they take up a ton of parts that could have been used elsewhere, but then you sacrifice accuracy/detail so double edged sword there. Another Villager or 2 would have been nice, and maybe a couple trees and more of a water area. From a collector/displayer standpoint, this is so far the best Minecraft set IMO, that isn't saying too much though given these sets are mainly play oriented in design. However i think other sets like the upcoming Fort 21117(?) will be a bigger draw to kids than this set. I am currently making a Minecraft display that includes The Village, The Mine, Nether Fortress, Desert Outpost, and probably the new Castle set. I plan to have it fit in my 2 wide Detolf display and have multiple levels to make it feel as Minecrafty as possible with The Village set being the main focus. TL;DR - The collector and past Minecraft player in me likes this set, investor in me hates the price and believes it probably won't be all that sought after.

OK, this is so perfect for this thread, I'm sure you will think I'm making it up. We have received some "creative" packaging over the years. But today we received our first BrickLink order in a fruitcake box. Literally.

  16. You guys got your own deals but a few of you folks have friends or family in Canada.
  17. Ignoring what may or may not retire soon, Out of the 5 current Modulars (Pet Shop, Palace Cinema, Brick Bank, Detective's Office, and Parisian Restaurant), which would you recommend be built first to start off a city? I'm probably most interested in the Detective's Office because I am a fan of the genre but I am hearing that some of the older sets are more rewarding.
  18. That's a good price. I won't buy any to hold unless they are under $50.
  19. Getting LEGO exclusives for low prices is a possibility. Sometimes retailers sell exclusives for ridiculous discounts, like German retailer Galeria did by mistake last November (36% off RRP).
  20. still there. looks like the horde is out on vacation....
  21. Got my first one today. Looks like a sea plane. The whole series is strange.
  22. data collection for walmart ban
  23. Was 8% until today. deal might still work if you get in quick.
  24. Next time I see big w discount cards I'll chuck it up here. They have 5% through cash rewards still I think at the moment, but 5% is not much to get excited about.
  25. Somewhere else I read some rumours, and one of them was that all Star Wars sets below 75100 (but I don't think that should include Rey's Speeder 75099 set) will retire by end of this year. And it's only about regular (play) sets, not the D2C UCS exclusives like Sandcrawler, Slave-1, and TIE Fighter. I do agree with @Val-E though that there were good discounts given in the final months of last year on 'soon to be retired' sets, especially on 75055 ISD and 75054 AT-AT. So there's certainly a good chance that left-over stock of 75094 IST will be cleared off at good discounts by end of this year. Other (interesting?) sets that fall in the "below 75099" category are: - 75096 Sith Infiltrator - 75093 Death Star Final Duel - 75092 Naboo Starfighter - 75091 Flash Speeder - 75087 Anakin's Custom Jedi Starfighter - 75085 Hailfire Droid - 75082 Tie Advanced Prototype Of all these sets that are at risk of retiring this year, I find the IST the most appealing set, with the DSFD a close second. When you can score any of these at a solid discount there's no reason not to start stocking up on them already, while keeping some spare funds available for the closing of the year clearance discounts on these sets.
  26. No problem, it was a tongue in cheek comments from me. I enjoyed this forum very much. I don't mind the ribbing. Agreed with the second comment. But hey there's a different thread for that and has been discussed to death.
  27. Too bad that they pulled a TRU and marked up a lot of the sets.
  28. Beat me to it.
  29. Argh ... calling KMart to cancel an order 5 minutes after you place it, getting the message "done - your points will be credited in 24-48hrs", only to find out 48hrs later that your item has now shipped and the cancellation was never properly done. Next guy tells me he is awfully sorry but the cancellation will now take 3-5 business days. I haven't got that amount of time, folks, your corporation might be belly up by then!

  33. Full disclosure comes into play and swallowing it sometimes causes indigestion.
  34. Just to be clear, nobody has never said quick flipping is bad though we will toss a TRU parking lot / hotcake comment or two in for good measure. 50 euro isn't shabby for taking a chance. It's the people who attempt the quick flip, fall on their ass in failure and then return stacks of them to the retailer with their tail between their legs claiming "oh well, it's my right to return them."
  35. Picked up used but boxed 10225 R2 D2 and 10174 AT-ST. Only have 10227 of the affordable and still climbing SW UCS sets to track down now then I'll probably start bricklinking some of the Anio sets while i pray for an underpriced 10030 & 10179
  36. I doubt they sell them indefinitely at Disney. These have been stated as limited edition many times now. But I have no doubts, the lego factories are currently churning out tens of thousands of new cases of these, and they will be back. I think demand just outstripped supply, kind of like last years JW.
  37. Maybe in western Europe that will be the case, but here in the US, the IST I think has already hit bottom, and from here on out, it will hover around the low 80's until it goes OOS at most retailers, which I suspect occurs around November as we near black friday. Right now the cheapest place to get them is Amazon, and even at their buy-in, you will make out nicely on these. It seems that here in the states especially, May the 4th is that period where you get the best deals on the future retirees. My spreadsheets have shown this for a few years now. After May the 4th, there is usually a moderately decent clearance event at walmarts in july, but that can be sporadic and it seemed that this year, the better clearance event happened in May of this year, although July has yet to be written, so maybe we will see Force Awakens sets that are due to be retired get phased out next. And to be honest, I have not seen any IST's at walmarts in my area since they hit 74.00 last month. In fact, walmart.com now shows it in the hands of toywiz at 139.99, and they are gone within a 50 mile radius of my area. So, I'm glad I stocked up when I did... because this set is now scarce and almost gone from my area. While I can still go into Target and TRU and pick up a handful of these at RRP or just a slight bit over, the days of getting them at 49.00 or 74.00 US is over, and I doubt we see them go that low again. It's following the same may the 4th pattern as most sets that are abound to retire. Last year it was AT-AT's, Ghost, and Cantinas that were dropped on clearance events first, and by october those sets were very scarce. As the fall months wore on ISD's, B-wings, and snowspeeders were slowly clearanced out too, but not at prices that i'd call substantial discounts. So, i'm just saying that IST's are going to be gone soon, and so will Jedi Duels, Naboo Starfighters, and even the exclusives like Battle Droid Troop Carriers, and Hailfire droids. In my area, even some force awakens sets are now getting scarce, especially the FO Transporter, which saw a big drop around May the 4th.. So, things are already progressing to the next phase, and the 2015 sets are soon to be a retired blip in the forever ongoing star wars timeline. We can argue all we want that they are going to be duds, but I doubt it. I don't buy that at all. I don't even see any of the Force Awakens sets being duds. Maybe Rogue One sets will be duds if the movie flops, but I doubt that too. I refuse to play with that bear. He's kind of proven to me that he hasn't really played the game, and is just full of hot air. That guy has "rookie" without a clue written all over him, even if he pretends he's not.
  38. 75095 UCS Tie Fighter for 147 euro.
  39. Today I finished building my Simpson Kwik-E-Mart. I know this set gets mixed reviews on here, but for me it was a really fun build, a huge amount of detail. I Personally think this will do well post retirement, and at present if you are patient when looking on eBay you can find one used, but mint at 50% RRP, as I did. Please enjoy a few photos...
  40. The 50% rule usuallly applies to playsets and not D2C Exclusives (sets like modulars that have limited distribution). We have seen lines where 50% off still isn´t enough to clear a profit after several years of holding and other playsets that have given great returns when bought at RRP or above so really this rule is more for risk aversion and has to be applied with a degree of flexibility. The issue with modulars is that they are now go-to sets for new investors and the market is saturated and will be for some time to come. In this case, the cheaper they can be bought, the easier it will be down the line to move them on if appreciation is not as good as expected. beware of too good deals, there is usualy a catch or trap.

I think the first part is clearly related to the DFB figures feel guide: Jogi just wanted to feel for himself if it's true that only all of the players have balls while he does not. As for the second part, hell, I have no idea, just disturbing... After seeing this I don't wanna know about what other people do at home.
  42. Sellers putting these items in the lego category without actually saying they are Lego but using a lego set number are the worst.
  43. Not a Lego fruitcake seller but thought this was funny Me: is the Nike swoosh on the shoes reflective? Seller: you either want the shoes or you don't make up your damn mind. Me: I'm sorry but I feel you may have responded to the wrong potential buyer, my question was about the swoosh being reflective or not. Seller: I don't know.
  44. I like it more than the real car. It's also funny that the box says 2016 Movie! As if real fans won't know the difference.
