  1. It was named that way to confuse the crooks trying to escape the prison island using this aircraft. Crook1: What's the hold up? You said you were a helicopter pilot? Crook2: Thiz thing iz not a helicopter, it'z a plane. I never flew a plane, ze controlz were different

  2. Think of it this way. You see the figs, they're right there in front of you. Buy em now! People say that's it and people say there will be a flood. No guarantee on anything but what's in front of you.

  4. This month's Blocks mag (issue 21 / July 2016) has a great article about Adam Reed Tucker. Tucker is the person who devised the Lego Architecture line while an AFOL and then a LCP (Lego Certified Professional). Here is a concept model of the great pyramids which was never made.

  6. Finally got my quota on the Slave 1 at Toys R US. With the 20%, Gift cards, Rewards, etc, got these 2 for $77 and the other for $33, so it brings me to 32 of them, I am done with these. I would say with getting some from Lego and Toys R US with all rewards,Vip, Coupons. I would say I got them for about $100-$140, I will be getting the Tie Fighter now as 8 more will bring me to 25, but shooting for 30. It seems that the Toys R Us stores gets one case, 2 of these every month, so finding them is tough, and another thing that sucks is alot of stores whats you to bring up the empty box on the shelf so they can check to see if they have any in the back. 7. Can I switch things up and share a positive experience? True story. I sold a complete set of Disney minifigs on eBay. I listed that they were still in the original bags, but I put a small cut in them to verify contents. Shortly after I received the money on PayPal, The buyer contacts me. The lady apologizes, but she claims I gave her two stitches. She's missing buzz light year. Which made sense to me, because I had recently went over my inventory of loose minifigs and was short a stitch. I go into customer-service panic-mode because of all the stories I've read here about buyers filing a complaint and getting their money back over the smallest inconsistency in their order. I'm a new seller and my feed back was only like 24, and more than half were from buying. So I immediately apologize for giving her stitches. But then she sends me a request: if she mails me one stitch back, will I please mail her the missing buzz light year. ?? She's asking ME to trade a stitch for a buzz? The buzz I rightfully owe her. She even says she's willing to wait until I get my stitch, before I give her a buzz. Now I'm getting paranoid, she's too nice. I am of course going to give her a buzz. And I'm certainly not going to wait until I receive a stitch. But What if she never sends a stitch and just wants a buzz for free? Who doesn't want a free buzz? What can I do?!? So I tell her I'm going to give her a buzz for free, gonna send it right away. I offer to send her $2 to pay for shipping my stitch back. She refuses. Doesn't want it. She compliments my package. Kids love the set. She just wants a buzz. Long story short, I roll her buzz with a pair of Washingtons. 'Cause I know she likes the way I pack it. And I got my stitch back and a great review on eBay. Disaster obverted. There are kind, generous people in the world.

  8. Forgive my aviation ignorance, but isn't this more of a plane, and not so much a helicopter? It has 2 propellers, and no rotor. It is definitely titled "Prison Island Helicopter" though.

  12. Some of my thoughts after building this the other day: As far as accuracy, scale, and displayabilty of a Minecraft set; this is best looking one. It's also the set that looks the most like a Minecraft set. The others don't necessarily look as much like their source material. Or maybe this one just captures the "essence" of Minecraft better. The play features are hidden wonderfully (the few there actually are). And it just feels like a true Minecraft set. Now that's not to say it's perfect or that i think it's worth $250CAD... The Watchtower and Market are definitely the weakest parts of this set. And i think trying to throw in multiple Biomes (while appreciated for the varying parts) doesn't work that well. Snow, Jungle, Grass, Desert all in one Village? ehhhh. The actual houses themselves are pretty cool, however i do feel they take up a ton of parts that could have been used elsewhere, but then you sacrifice accuracy/detail so double edged sword there. Another Villager or 2 would have been nice, and maybe a couple trees and more of a water area. From a collector/displayer standpoint, this is so far the best Minecraft set IMO, that isn't saying too much though given these sets are mainly play oriented in design. However i think other sets like the upcoming Fort 21117(?) will be a bigger draw to kids than this set. I am currently making a Minecraft display that includes The Village, The Mine, Nether Fortress, Desert Outpost, and probably the new Castle set. I plan to have it fit in my 2 wide Detolf display and have multiple levels to make it feel as Minecrafty as possible with The Village set being the main focus. TL;DR - The collector and past Minecraft player in me likes this set, investor in me hates the price and believes it probably won't be all that sought after.

  17. i think it's the nostalgia of bringing us back to when we were younger with those classic figures. We just wish they would make the classic sets. When the pirate one came out, i didn't have anything I wanted to buy, so I just went on ebay and got the cheapest nib pirate.

  20. Hello, I'd like to tell you about an idea that I had. I'd like to make June 25th Give a Sick Kid a Brick (Break) Day. This would be a day where we can give to a little served cause. It might not even cost you a dime. I don't know how many of you have had a sick kid. My child's been to the emergency room more times than I can remember and admitted to the hospital for observation 3 times. The children's hospital is just as dreary, just as stark and joyless as an adult hospital. Somehow it seems worse because the child doesn't have the same acceptance as an adult in the same position. What an adult endures, a child fights. Shots, procedures, nurses, doctors and specialists poking, prodding, checking and waking them up at all hours becomes like torture. Enduring being cooped in a place that is not their home with few comforts and little to occupy them while they are sick grates upon them. Some children endure better than others, but eventually they all rebel. They fight against another shot or collecting urine, or enduring another hour of therapy. It's hard for them to understand that the discomfort is to help them get better. So, how does the nursing staff deal with the recalcitrant patient? How do they cheer up a child that is trapped in the hospital on their birthday or an important holiday? Bribes of course. Most children's hospitals have some form of room/closet/cart that holds toys. They promise the patient a trip to the closet if it will help them to do a particularly aggravating procedure, or when they're well enough to go home. The promise of a toy keeps their spirits buoyed over several days as they look forward to choosing something special. Sometimes the staff wrap the toys or make a gift bag or package to present to a child that is down because they can't celebrate birthdays, Christmas, Hannukkah or whatever holiday with friends and extended family. I can tell you that it doesn't matter what is available, the kids are just happy to have something to look forward to. Sometimes the promise of a toy is enough to strengthen them as a needle is imminent, or placate them as they contemplate the third hour long breathing treatment in a row. They look forward to getting a toy as part of their release. It's a graduation of sorts. The toys in these closets are provided through donations. Some people donate money to a foundation that purchase toys, some sponsor a toy closet and run toy drives to collect stuff to fill it, and some private citizens donate toys. All of that prelude was to get to this last point. I have asked @Ed Mack for permission to address this community and ask you to mobilize for a cause. I would like to ask you to commit to donating some toys to your local children's hospital. I would love it if people would publically say that they will help out. I'm not offering any rewards, no chances at winning something good. I really couldn't afford to make it worth your while. It has to be something that you would want to do. I'd like to address some concerns that people may have. There are children's hospitals in most communities. I am not asking that you send me money or toys, because we should all act locally. Plus, you'll have no fear of having someone take your money or items and not do what they said they would. Many of us as collectors, parents or investors probably have new toys that have no place. As a collector, perhaps you have something that you bought that doesn't fit or that you were never really happy with. Parents will sometimes stockpile toys for future gift giving, or stash extra presents that their children received because there's just too much. Investors may have some dud that they picked up that they have no real hope of making anything off of. As long as the toys are unopened, they should be acceptable, so you might not even need to spend money. Some people won't donate to a specific organization because it's associated with a certain religion or political group. There's a fear that the goods or money will be spent on administrative costs or misappropriated. In this case, you won't donate to a foundation or to a charity. You would donate to a hospital for sick kids, the hospital of your choice. Some people point to the adult community that collects toys and say that we are taking these things out of children's hands. Here's our chance to give back. I know that many of us have given, sometimes extravagantly. I ask that we give again. Most people are charitable at certain times of the year. There's a greater push for charitable contributions in November and December. I chose June 25th to ask people to donate because it is half a year from the time of year that many people would end their holiday charitable donations. I think that this time of year is harder on the groups that rely upon people's generosity. June 25th is just a guideline. I can't make anyone do anything. All I can do is ask, please help. Lift the heart of a child that is hurting. Now, obviously, you will never meet the child that receives your toy, and they will never know you. Child safety laws and patient confidentiality being so important. That doesn't mean you shouldn't do it. Post a picture to this thread of what you're donating, maybe it will encourage others. Check Google for your local children's hospital. Most of their sites will list what sort of toys/books or other items they need. They will also tell you how to collect your receipt for the tax deductible donation if you want it. If you have the inclination, pass it along and try to get others to donate too. Please remember that all toys must be new, unused, unopened. There's serious concerns about exposing children to germs and if you want to donate used toys, there are other places like group homes that would love to have them. New doesn't necessarily mean fresh from a store, just unused and unopened. View full blog article

  25. I've been to Disney Springs in Orlando. Couldn't find them in any Disney store or in the Lego store. But on the same weekend at Lego Land, which is a separate entity, they were at every register. And they have a lot of registers. I don't think they'll sell them regularly at the Disney parks, unless they open a Lego store in the park and sell all Legos there. But even then, Disney sells cheap toys in their parks that were made in China with a short life-span and a ridiculously high mark up. Their profit margins are in the 1000% Their cut of a $3.99 Minifig sold in their park is probably 75% at best. They make more money selling you a $5 bottle of water then selling a minifig.

  26. All of that is awesome! Just like Lego! Growing up, I was a huge Favre fan and really got into GB, particularly when I went through a phase when I was around 12 or 13 when every book I picked up was some sort of "history of football" book where giants like Lombardi and Starr loomed large. I also love the fact that it's basically owned by the community (shares for your favorite team!). Anyway, you're dead-on with the history. It's rich. I think if I didn't grow up in Seattle, I would have been a Packers fan. Still, they're one of my favorite franchises out there. If there was any possible way I could make it for December I would sport my #beastmode jersey and rally with the cheeseheads. Alas, Paris is a long, long commute for a ball game. Happy Dad's Day to you (and anyone else reading this) and hope you all got to build something fun!

  29. Fortunately, I never had that problem (or at least I don't know about it yet) but because you're not sure which store it came from, it looks like you're stuck with it. Count it as a loss. Your other choice is to screw one of the retailers you got it from. Those are your 2 choices, obviously the second one ain't right...maybe others have some ideas.

  32. Built 6280 Armada Flagship from a bulk buy I bought a while back. This is the first vintage set I've built in years. I forgot how bad instructions were back then. It was tough seeing what pieces needed to be added in a step as you needed to compare it to what you've built already and/or the previous step's picture. Kids these days don't know how good they got it.

  35. I've had many inquiries, thanks to everyone! The collection has been sold, and I'm working with the buyer to arrange delivery. Thanks again to everyone, that was really quick. I actually had several offers in excess of my $12,500 asking price. I didn't accept them as 1) I had been working a deal with a buyer prior to this, and 2) I felt $12,500 was the fair price which leaves enough room for the buyer to make some profit on this collection. After all, that's one of the reasons we're all here. Thanks again, now I have to start packing things up.

As for the second part, hell, I have no idea, just disturbing... After seeing this I don't wanna know about what other people do at home.

  41. I think I am going to give this ST movie thing 1 more try just because the trailer does not look like ST3: The Search for Spock Not original ideas per se, since the alien look like Jem'Hadars and swarm of small sized ships destroying bigger fleet reminded me of the Founders. But I am hoping in third movie the main crews are becoming their own versions of the originals instead of cheap imitations. Except for Simon Pegg who has brought his own spin on Scotty since movie 1. See, I can say a nice thing about new movies 1&2
