  1. my husband picked up the following new in sealed boxes along with around 40 sets some new and some used but bagged and organized. I actually really wanted these, but I had no idea they were sealed. It will be too hard for me to open a set that has been sealed for 20 years

  2. I apologize if there is a better place for this. However, I wanted to wish all of the fathers, grandfathers, and father-figures on bp a wonderful father's day. A number of you are on here because you are passionate about Lego and want to share this love with those that you care for, some of you do this to support your families or provide opportunities for them - thank you for all that you do! As a woman who is the Lego lover in my family, I appreciate my husband that indulges my Lego obsession:) May this day be filled with love, laughter, celebration, and of course, lots of Lego

  3. A competent ceo/board could still turn them around with a total replacement of upper management and retraining of store employees as well as remodeling the stores to bring their apperence up to a reasonable standard while overhauling their logistics operation and....Nevermind, they're toast.

  4. Decided to build one of my ISTs today. Got a fair few for investment but it's a set that I wanted to build for sometime. Very happy with it!

  5. Today I finished building my Simpson Kwik-E-Mart. I know this set gets mixed reviews on here, but for me it was a really fun build, a huge amount of detail. I Personally think this will do well post retirement, and at present if you are patient when looking on eBay you can find one used, but mint at 50% RRP, as I did. Please enjoy a few photos...

  7. Bought a Bionicle Gali Uniter of Water today at Kmart.com (for pickup at Sears) to add to my son's collection. Well, "bought" ...... see for yourself: Turned out I suddenly had $10 in surprise points (and $1.15 in points remaining in my account), plus a 5% off toys coupon, for a grand total of $0. Perhaps this should go into the "Bleak outlook for Sears/Kmart" thread - but hey, FREE LEGO!

  8. I've been a member for a couple of months and I realized I never introduced myself. Better late then never. My name is Jason and I'm live in New Orleans, Louisiana. I recently got back into Lego, when my children were old enough. Like many of you know, it's been a downward spiral into the abyss that is Lego. Growing-up, I was one of five and my family never had much money. Lego was luxury that we rarely received, but always wanted. Now as an adult, it's hard not to buy EVERYTHING that you want and justifying it to my wife by telling her it's for the children[emoji6] I've enjoyed picking up a couple used bulk mainly for the bricks. I wanted my children to start out with them, instead of them only wanting sets. Still working on the best method of sorting for my available space, but this site has been the BEST RESOURCE!!! On a side note, it's fascinating what you find in bulk lots. The treasure chest of teeth has to be one of the most surprising items I've found.

  10. AAAAHHHHH... OK... so you more or less "laminate" the boxes. When I read you "coat" your Lego sets, I got the impression you were coating the finished builds with something!

  12. @AirborneAFOL already explained why you should not worry, and here are my two cents as well. I asked for the GG for my 42nd birthday from my father in law, since I didn't know what to ask. I always played with Lego since I was 7 year old and I still have my first two sets at home in the original box with instructions; all in good shape. I really liked building the GG and bought the next one. Thought about investing for the GG and never did, and look what a new one does nowadays; probably an easy $1000.00 if you have patience. so the money investment is not a problem, that will sure come back if you sell them again, even used. Just make sure it's complete and not damaged at all. I kind of clear coat all my Lego sets; and got lots of compliments from buyers who buy my used sets, that they are in almost perfect shape. And it makes the boxes easy to clean as well. I regret not buying the CC set, because I have them all, besides the last two. But I will get these too, just not in a hurry, because they won't retire that fast, you always have two to three years. Just got the Lego Porsche 42056, and that one is still taking my breath away. My advise: don't hesitate to get these sets, because they will not depreciate in value. If Lego ever stops the line altogether, they will become worth even more...

  16. More like x150. That x25 step has been repeated at least 4 times already, and I'm only about to start in on Bags 4!! The repetition, on tiny pieces, is real. But so is the detail. Come across a couple very satisfying techniques so far as well. I really love how the tower comes together with the sideways panels. I think this set might be a good investment down the line. It's highly intricate and has lots of details to show off, and yet it doesn't have an outlandish shelf footprint like SOH or TB. I think this one would very cleanly pass the CEO test due to it's level of detail in relation to footprint. It could even fit on a desk nicely without taking up too much of the actual desk space. Very cool model. Edit: I feel like I'm building a giant sized Architecture set.

  18. I've had many inquiries, thanks to everyone! The collection has been sold, and I'm working with the buyer to arrange delivery. Thanks again to everyone, that was really quick. I actually had several offers in excess of my $12,500 asking price. I didn't accept them as 1) I had been working a deal with a buyer prior to this, and 2) I felt $12,500 was the fair price which leaves enough room for the buyer to make some profit on this collection. After all, that's one of the reasons we're all here. Thanks again, now I have to start packing things up.

  25. @simon74 and @bricklues, thanks for sharing your thoughts. I went ahead and pulled the trigger. I'm now a first time owner of modular sets :). PC actually looks really good... now the dillemma... "to build, or not to build" ... The boxes are in real good shape with seals intact. @stephen_rockefeller and @Val-E is there anything specific I should be looking out for when purchasing from CL? If the boxes are intact and the seals appear untampered with, is it safe to assume that the product is good or are there other things to look out for? Interesting deals on CL do pop up from time to time, but if there are scams to be wary of and experienced BPers stay away from CL because of that, I may reconsider and just wait for the Walmart/Barnes & Nobles/Target clearance sales I've been reading about in these forums...???

  26. It's kind of packing tape, but then really wide. Takes a lot of patience to apply since you only get one change, you can't redo because the box will rip. It works great though and also stops the cardboard from ripping apart where the tabs are when you try to re-close them after opening. i sold an old Lego technic set to someone in NY, and he wrote me back to get instructions on how to do that to his own sets, he liked it that much.

  27. Ahh. Gotta love some eBayers efforts when it comes to packing. Used set, brown packing tape down both sides of the box so it doesnt open. Then write my address on a bit of paper and just tape that to the front of the box too... (wish I'd taken a pic now for better effect). Don't even wrap in brown paper.... now there's efficiency for you

  30. Its a really cool set but as somebody holding 6x 9450's I am cautious. However after being pleasantly surprised by my stack of 70503 Golden Dragon's I have to admit there is potential here. As others have said time and time again it is all about levels of risk. This could go great and it could stagnate.....I just wish I had the golden formula for knowing which ones to pick 100% of the time

  32. The 50% rule usuallly applies to playsets and not D2C Exclusives (sets like modulars that have limited distribution). We have seen lines where 50% off still isn´t enough to clear a profit after several years of holding and other playsets that have given great returns when bought at RRP or above so really this rule is more for risk aversion and has to be applied with a degree of flexibility. The issue with modulars is that they are now go-to sets for new investors and the market is saturated and will be for some time to come. In this case, the cheaper they can be bought, the easier it will be down the line to move them on if appreciation is not as good as expected. beware of too good deals, there is usualy a catch or trap.

  41. Took a couple of days and finally completed Big Ben. The finished product looks amazing with the level of detail and finished look of the model. The build on the other hand was beyond repetitive - lots of x25 steps that you repeat over and over and over again - but I guess I knew that heading into it based on the images etc... but putting the clock part together was very enjoyable. Anyway looks great on display and price point seems decent based on how cool it looks.

  42. Shop at Home for Lego has the deep sea operation base base 60096 for 79.99. With VIP points, free shipping and the fountain it seems like a good deal. I have not seen this one in the brick and mortar stores around me so I opted for one to add to the vessel and sub to help complete the series. Don't know if it is worth posting about but what the hell it is early Saturday morning.

  44. Background : I live in a small town in rural Idaho. People do not have a lot of money, Idaho is 50th of 50 states on paying for welfare benefit, so even those that are not working do not have that flexible of incomes. I have had poor success (or none) selling on craigslist and local buy/sell/trade on facebook, only at Xmas for about a two week window has it been worth my time. I started the investing/flipping/picking game about two years ago. purpose of the yard sale was to clean out the clutter, and roll the dice and see if could sell any bigger ticket items. Secondary purpose was to become the go-to guy for the locals that are looking for retired or hard to find sets, or just need an exclusive quicker. Here is a list of sales, will try to put name and set number, first number in paranthesis is how much I paid for it. I am not including tax/gas etc, as a lot of the time it was from Lego store, and got 5% VIP, or a promo/freebee somewhere and it more than offset tax. yes there are better accountants than me, so just add 5-10% for costs if it bugs you. various speed champions ($15 each (was filler on orders to get promos)) x4 -----> $15 x 4 = $60 ecto-1 ($40) ------> $50 ninjago flyers ($0) ----- $7 x 2 = $14 GI Joe (Kre-O) $15-----$30 Mega Bloks jeep ($5) ----$11 bionicle ($4) ---$7 cindi carriage 41053 ($8) -- $20 x2 = $40 minions advent calendar ($11) -- $18 my-kids-wrote-down-wrong-set ($20)----$35 Chima 71032 ($10) -- $20 Steamroller 76013 ($22) --- $35 (to a friend) Jr. Batcave 10672 ($18) -- $30 Castle 70143 ($35) -- $50 (to a friend) Chima 70143 ($20) --- $25 SW grievous combo ($18, thank you target) - $35 x2 = $70 Turtle Lair 79117 ($19, thank you WM) - $80 Chima 70130 ($10) -- $15 Chima 70129 ($10) -- $15 Mega Bloks ($0, thrown in free from bulk lot) $5 a bag x6 = $30 Chima 850910 ($2.50) -- $6 Arctic Heli ($18, thank you Fred Meyer) -- $30 x 2 = $60 Elsa castle ($20 FM)-- $30 Tie Polybag ($3) -- $5 Kai Fire bike poly ($2) -- $5 brianiac ($18) - $25 x2 = $50 Call of duty set ($12) - $20 tyridium 75094 ($45) --- $79 bucket 10696 ($20) --- $25 x 2 = $50 random mega bloks ($5) -- $8 friends polybag (($0.39) -- $3 x 3 = $9 friends series 2 pet ($3) -- $7 olag poly ($3) -- $7 classic box ($10) - $15 DVD ($0, already sold minifigure and covered cost) - $5 MECHDRAGON ($18) --- $55 (highlight of the day hahaha) kre-O crap from WM ($10) - $10 I presold some stuff that didn't all get written down. Over all I had my cost at approximately $556.50 and had sales of $1101, around 97% profit overall. Numbers were padded by having no cost mega bloks. upside is all packaged delivered on time, in perfect condition, with no fees and 100% feedback summary- we live very close to a large baseball tournament going on, we timed our YS for that weekend. We live between two grade schools, so doing while school is in session will have similar results. I cleared out a TON of chima, 100% of all Mega Bloks I randomly acquired from other sales and had a hard time dumping. I was surprised how much princess and other stuff did not move. No one bought any exclusives, I had them all priced at MSRP, sales pitch was to save on shipping and no sales tax. All mine were bought during double VIP during nice promo season, I would be ok selling for little or no profit if I pick up a loyal customer. 4 or 5 people took my number and plan to contact me near christmas time. will probably do another closer to Christmas. what sells in my market? Deeply discounted crap, resold at discount, but at profit
