  1. arrived today, this is for my older daughter (and I suspect for wife as well)

I'd just open it and make sure it's legit. The lost value of being open is minimal.
  3. That was my initial reason too, to start with LEGO investing/speculating. With interest on savings at the bank being below 1% it's not even hard to get a higher ROI on LEGO sets. But it also awoke the AFOL lurking inside me, waiting to make me come out of my LEGO Dark Ages. So now I'm both buying for myself, for my own collection, and to earn a higher interest in my savings.
  4. Didn't buy it today but finally came in the mail! My helicarrier! Used about 100 dollars worth of points on it. In the process of moving and 1/4 of my hoard is behind my sofa at the moment lol...
  5. $120+ on Amazon FBA US

I know someone asked about this the other day. Confirmed
  7. I am expecting this set to have 3-5 years product life. It may still be too early to pull the trigger.
  8. Let's put it this way... if I had to buy this older set I would probably buy with more confidence if the box had been opened for the purpose of making sure manuals and sealed bags were all there and intact
  9. Echo that. Open it but leave the bags sealed. An opened box, sealed bags set for a long-since-retired set like GG is not going to make any difference when trying to sell - at this point people buying from you are more than likely buying to build, so they'll open anyways, and if you post pictures with the bags displayed they will have confidence they are not getting a bricklinked or tampered-with set. Separately, since you've purchased already, care to mention the price you paid (and how this relates to the current AUD selling prices)? I'm hoping you really got a steal.
  10. Do I understand this correctly that an honorable brickpicker left a lone copy for little Timmy and you just grabbed it? Anyway, this sounds like the deal of a lifetime. Congratulations!
  11. So it sit in Clearance section since 2014 waiting for me to bring it home.
  12. Oh wow. I would be so jazzed if Lego remade this with the upcoming movie as an excuse for doing so. My dream set!
  13. Yeah when anyone should see an accumulation of sand green bricks in a bag a lightbulb should turn on in there head!
  14. Too soon to buy one for less tha 40% unless it´s for a personal build. Better deals will come on these sets in Q4.
  15. 67% RRP means a 33% discount. It's better than I've ever seen it sold for here in The Netherlands. Currently Amazon Germany is selling it for ~ €116 which is about 28% discount on an RRP of €160. So 33% discount is already cheaper than what I paid for the 75105 last year when I bought one for myself (€121, or 24% discount). Oh well, c'est la vie. At the time I thought it was a really good deal, but I had just started with LEGO investing that time. What did I know about prices and how much discount is possible when you're patient? And that's where the experience of long-time Lego investors comes into play: knowing what discounts are feasable and when is the best time to strike. Ultimately it's the gamble when you see a discount: is this the best deal I'll ever have on it, or will it get even more discounted? And if you wait too long you may not get that deal any longer and you'll finally have to buy at a higher price. I'm sure every LEGO investor here has bought sets when they thought the discount wouldn't get any deeper, and then they saw the same set at an even higher discount a while later. Keep in mind that people love to show off and tell here about the awesome deal they scored, but will rather keep quiet about the mistakes they made. Returning to your question: should you purchase 75105 now at 67% RRP, is something you have to decide for yourself. Other Brickpickers here won't buy non-exclusives at less than 40% discount, but that's their choice/strategy. This set will not retire any time soon, but if you don't mind holding it for a few more years knowing you got it at a decent discount, then it may be worth it for you.
  16. It'll work online, too, though it says with some restrictions. There's an early ad scan here- http://www.totallytarget.com/2016/06/09/sneak-peek-target-weekly-ad-scan-for-612-618/3/- promo code LEGO. Some sets are priced lower online than in store right now- for example, Avengers Tower is $59.99 in store, but $48.99 online.

Honestly, this is why I drop everything off in person at the post office and get a receipt. Just don't trust carriers to get it right everytime.. I do live 1.5 miles from my PO, so it is convenient for me. It may not be so for others.
  18. I got a full set of all of the early star wars sets new in sealed boxes from a guy on Craig's list. Saw the ads for a few weeks not selling, so I made a lower offer and made the deal. I listed them individually on ebay and all of them sold within 2-3 months with the exception of one (7171 droid starfighter which I still have.) Made more that double my original investment. Selling individually is going to get you the most money.

For fellow Belgians: I just came back from my weekly round of toy stores to check for discounts. At Dreamland they are having a -40% clearance on selected sets. I scored a couple of battle droid troop carriers and two city superpacks. Total discount was over 100€ so well worth it. Second store I went to had everything swiped, but I checked out what was supposed to be on the clearance shelves: Minecraft stuff, City Police, City Deep Sea Exploation and some Star Wars.
  20. It has changed my buying practices. Even though I don't flip much while still in production, I'm looking down the road to selling. If Amazon is ever off the table, it's a game changer for me.
  21. It must be a pricing error on the website. In the physical store the prices are unchanged, i.e. still 10% above RRP.
  22. Unbelievably I found mine with 30% off. Which is why i grabbed 4 in the first place.

It's also gotta be mentioned that the end value of any item is relative to the market you're selling it in. In 5 years time if both sets are retired and you're selling both in the UK, I'd guess the TB is going to be more popular. If you're selling down in Aus, I'd guess the SoH will net the bigger payout. If you're selling either in the US, it's anyone's guess! Moral of this message is keep your end-game target market in scope!
  24. If the store is dodgy, open it up after paying for it. They won't be able to accuse you of replacing the contents that way.
  25. Picked up a used but mint Simpson's house today for £104 delivered. Been after this set for my personal collection for a while, am happy with that price. Plan to start the Kwik E Mart this weekend, then the house straight after. Best make some more room on the shelf!!
  26. Used and 100% complete Death Star with box and instructions: $280 Finally found a used one to build for a price that I was happy with.
  27. Approve the return, swallow the loss, and move on. It's the cost of doing business on Amazon. It happens from time to time, and you have to be prepared to eat it if you want to sell on Amazon.
  28. Well let's assume you didn't miss something as obvious as scotch tape holding the box shut (or your buyer is an idiot and doesn't understand what a LEGO factory tape seal looks like). By the indignant tone of the email, sounds like she knows she's scamming you, and has clearly pulled this trick before. Out of curiosity, is this a set where the minifigures are of any significant value that's worth this effort?
  29. Smithers, release the hordes!
  30. Two for him and one for me. My son will be a happy Star Wars fan. TRUTH, $210 out the door after all the goodies.

  36. Today I finally got around to building some frames to display some of my Minifig collection! Happy with the outcome, should look sweet on the wall!!
  37. My almost 5 year old built this morning. He keeps transforming him into Bumblebee from Transformers Lego needs to get the license so it gets done properly unlike Kreo.

My mailman must have been in quite a hurry on this overcast/rainy day. I had to really tug on this bag of 25 #2 bubble mailers to dislodge it from the mailbox that is approximately 60 feet from my front porch...
  42. Can it be a dark horse with 5 million horded
  43. ^ and GG is the best. With CC a close second. Then there is MS, not even close.
