  2. @feed: Is that ISD 75055? The box of that set is quite big so that's surprising. Finished building that Batman set with the exception of Batmobile and Batcopter and the superhero minifigures. Those are already packed for sale to recoup parts of the original costs. It was a fun build and the final result is more impressive than I imagined. A lot of people complain about the set but I think it's cool. I'm not a fan of superheroes and Batman though. And this is how it could look like if integrated into a modular street.

  16. The recent revival of the Horizon Express topic made me think about the future value of this set. The train theme growth stagnated in 2015 and I was wondering what people really expect from this set. I thought that I would list some pros and cons and maybe some other people will have some input too. Pro: The crane dock is very well done and easy to expand upon The engine is excellent, especially if you are from North America. There's a cow There is no helicopter Two switches are included and that makes it easy to start a collection with this train or to make this your second purchase. Con: The "cargo" wagons are unremarkable. I don't need to ferry animals around and carry fuel at the same time, it really seems like combining elements of this set with 60098 would have made more sense. Only the drum car is interesting The part out value is low compared to other options: eBay sales will put it at about $200 after shipping and fees and Bricklink indicates that the new value is around $280 but that seems about 15-18% too high to me. The minifigures add nothing to the set. This set has been heavily discounted for all of 2015 and although 60098 Heavy Haul train is not a huge improvement on this set, the fact that it will be available at retail will probably hinder the growth of new copies of the 60052 train. Does anyone see this train blossoming after retirement or are there simply too many cargo train options on the market for this one to stand out. This really seems like a low growth set, based on MSRP, but it should have nice part out value.

  17. The "LS" is not the destination. When you ship out from the US you get tracking codes "LZ...US" if the destination country supports tracking and "LN...US" if no tracking. No idea what the codes mean, but you will certainly get _something_ from China.

  24. Just so you guys know not everything on ebay is a scam.......the more likely scenario is that newbie lego investor bought a death star to sell. When the time comes to sell it they are also new at the eBay thing. And because everyone here or mosty anywhere wont give zero feedback buyers/sellers a chance, they need to get a few small sales to prove to all the non beleibers that they are legit. That is probably whats going on most of the time. Everyone even top rated sellers and powers sellers had a low amount of feedback at one time. The problem is that all the new members here read this thread and think that everyone is out to scam them. Paranoia is contagious

  31. Well a 10179 rehash would be $699+. With europe and asia very weak one would assume sales of the new Death Star would be monitored prior to mass production of a $699 set.

  32. No, I didn't modify the back yet but I'm thinking about making it into a modular at some point. What I did though was replacing all the visible gold and grey parts of the grand piano with their black counterparts. In my opinion, it looks much nicer now. I also started building another set big set. A few small models are already completed:

  33. First timer posting here! Whats up everyone, 30yr Male from NY. I was a die hard Lego fan (Castle and Pirate theme, late 80's early 90's) as a child and unfortunately got away from building as I grew up. Growing up I was always a massive Star Wars fan and one day last August I randomly stumbled across a LEGO article and it made me wonder if LEGO made any Star Wars products. I thought it would be fun to check out the LEGO Store online and see what themes/products were offered these days. I was absolutely blown away when I checked out the Star Wars theme, especially the UCS sets. At the time the UCS X-Wing was sold out so I decided it would be cool to pick up a Slave I and give building another shot. THIS WAS THE WORST DECISION OF MY LIFE FOR ME (and my wallet) lol. I had an absolute ball building the set and was instantly addicted to building, and now collecting, these sets. Since the Slave I, I have bought about 6-7 other UCS sets and a few TFA sets, spending an ungodly amount of money on my new found habit. I forgot how fun building was and am glad I got back into LEGO! Glad I stumbled across this site, happy building!

  34. Oh yes I appreciate that, I know not everything that happens on ebay is scam, and everyone has to start with 0 feedback so give people a chance. My original post was merely a friendly heads up to all members that may be on the look out for that particular set that I smelt something fishy and would hate to see people on here get scammed, which my gut feeling tells me on these recent items is exactly what would happen.

  36. Between 2pm and 7pm Pacific Time on March 28, 2016 Discount applies to the purchase price (excluding shipping, handling, and taxes) of eligible items on eBay.com. Eligible items exclude Coins & Paper Money, Gift Cards & Coupons and Real Estate. Looks like if you add a $100 gift card and 1 additional item to bring it over the $125 the gift card exclusion doesn't apply.

  37. It takes some magic but I just used it on: $100 TRU GC for $85 20301 Birds $42.95 Order total: $127.95 Promo code: -$25.00 Total: $102.95 Edit: I messed up. I should have got a $100 ebay gift card and the birds set. I could have used the gift card to buy the discounted TRU card. I would have wound up spending the same amount but had an extra $15 ebay gift card left. FML.

  41. Si, señor. Resellers deliberately targetting other resellers is always amusing - or maybe every household should have two Tumblers.

  42. If folks are really targeting the 4-5 year post-EOL timeframe as their ideal selling window, one thing to realize is that demand for most retired sets falls off a cliff once you hit the 3-year post-EOL mark. By that time, most buyers have moved on to other products and are focused on buying other sets. Prices may continue to climb, but it becomes increasingly difficult to move inventory. If we end up in a scenario where there are a lot of resellers targeting that same window, that supply combined with low demand will keep prices from rising and make it difficult to unload inventory.

  44. Hello all. Self-introduction here. 34-yr old male in the US Midwest. 3 kids all under the age of 3 yrs old - their arrival brought me out of my "dark ages" and back to Lego. Hardcore AFOL now. 9-yr US Army vet (paratrooper, hence "Airborne" in my handle), got an MBA and married in my late 20's / early 30's and now run my own independent consulting business assisting major US banks when they run into hot water with regulators. I'm an MOC/MOD display builder first and foremost. A reseller second - only meddling in moving a relatively meager volume of excesses from my own inventory/collection. As for investing - well, I've always been leery of Lego as a bonafide "investment opportunity", and instead see Lego as an "expensive hobby, but one which can be slightly less expensive through reselling". The MBA-finance background keeps me keenly aware Lego's sole instrinsic value is that of a "play/hobby commodity", and thus the inherent investment opportunity lives and dies both on external market demand and supplier (TLG) production decisions. In other words, I'd never put money into Lego before my traditional investment accounts because Lego is far more volatile - but that doesn't mean a Brickfolio can't be a prudent way to hedge the costs of Lego as a hobby. Active Eurobricks browser/poster for a couple years - gleaning inspirations and posting a few of my own MOC/MOD builds (username AirborneAFOL). Substantial modular-style basement tabletop display. Daily Brickset user as well, for my "Lego news" fix and using their ACM tool for my set inventory. Incidentally, I've got around $12,500 spent on sets the past 3 years; only the modular-expert ones retain 100% intact, with dozens of the Creator/City themes having undergone extensive MOD alterations, and scores of non-city-theme sets having been parted out (minifigs/rare elements sold, 50-75% of the set just dumped into my personal brick inventory for MOC/MOD purposes). WARNING: Shameless self-promotion plug. I maintain a modest storefront ("veritasbricks") on Ebay, where I do $250-500 in monthly sales. My Ebay store is mostly just to part out minifigs from sets (particularly themed/lisenced ones), random brick lots from when I overindulge on retail PAB, assorted lots I lack the storage/need for, some sporadic parted-set components, a few NISB I pick up at below-retail costs, and the occassional classic/vintage set I no longer have the space/interest to keep in my own display. Frankly it's not a profitable venture for me at all, and just serves to keep my wife appeased by showing her at least *some* bricks going out the door on a routine basis (it's the best answer I've found to "Seriously?!?! MORE Lego?!?!? How much money did you spend this time?!?!"). I tend to be lucky to just break even in terms of acquisition + shipping + materials costs. All my listings are BIN-OBO, but if ever you're interested in something there, msg me there that you're a Brickpicker and I'll gladly give you a 10% discount. Fellow AFOL's tend to recognize good value when they see it and capitalize on combined shipping, which saves me time packaging the small orders for soccer moms (leaving me more time for my actual passion of building). All in all I'd say I'm very much a "small time reseller" - if you can even call it "reselling", given I don't do it profitably - but very much enjoy engaging in discussions of Ebay buying/selling news, strategies, etc. Registered on Bricklink and browse frequently (their price guide is my go-to reference for buying/selling elements & minifigs) but never gone to the trouble of actually buying/selling there. With only 60-100 active listings on Ebay at any given time (~20k total elements for sale), I suspect I'd have too few/small of orders there to make it worth the trouble, and am bias towards the postage/shipping ease of Ebay. In the past year, I've picked up just a handful (~$1k value) of sets maintained NISB (both Creator Christmas sets, Ewok Village, a couple $20-50 City sets, etc). Despite being leery of Lego as a true "investment opportunity", I've come to find Brickpicker to be at the top of the list for Lego sites I frequent. Between the investing/selling insights in the forums, Brickfolio tools, and most recently the wildly inspiring St Paul School Raffle, I've just finally created an account. Tend to post very rarely (on any Lego site for that matter) but visit daily. Hopefully this bio isn't inappropriately longwinded / self-promoting - and just useful reference point in the event someone sees one of my rare sporadic posts and wants to dig up my historical ones to find out a bit more about who I am. Cheers. -Ryan

  45. I'm surprised we don't already have a topic for 60052 given how many times it has gone on sale (and good ones) all over the place. It's a nice set, but with LEGO rehashing train sets all the time I don't see these common sets - i.e. cargo trains and passenger trains - going up in value all that much. The real way to win with these is to get them at steep discount and flip them. There is nothing all that special about these sets so, in my opinion, holding them for 3-5 years won't yield the kind of gains people are expecting. *caveat - if LEGO replaces the RC style with an updated one that is deemed less desirable, these could all of a sudden become more valuable as people look to expand on their train collection without going into a new style of electronics.* PS No helicopter is a big bonus to me.
