  2. This site has become inundated with 'How much do you think set X will make for me?' or 'I do my own research, but just for fun, what set is likely to be a good investment?' questions from low post members. I'm new to this site myself, but if someone spends a little time to browse the forums, it's glaringly obvious that no-one really can predict how any set is going to perform post-EOL - especially with the glut of new investors - any more than when a set will retire. TLG semingly taking delight in thwarting resellers with unpredictable long runs for some sets or re-releasing other retired sets to stymie the prices for the retired sets. This post isn't an attack on you, just I see this question all the time here. And yes, I know it's fun to speculate, dream of Sandcrawlers becoming the next 10179, and no harm in asking as that's what a forum is for, but I see a growing resentment by many older members here in reaction to seemingly lazy help-me-make-money-without-researching-the-info-already-speculated-upon-many-times constant questions. To answer your question with my own guess, I would say maybe the SC could retire later this year as Smyths aren't stocking it anymore, and they still still stock EV. This is if it follows the usual availability cycle of 2 years since it was re-released in 2014. Who knows? It could become the next Death Star and keep going for another 6 years. The only way anyone knows if it's going to retire is when LEGO Shop at Home stick the 'retiring soon' label on it.

  3. Happen to be sitting here watching Batman Begins on a rainy Sunday afternoon. Quickly reminded that the Tumblr is so freaking badass. How many Movie vehicles have so many cool quotes? "The tumbler? Oh you wouldn't be interested in that Mr. Wayne..... Does it come in Black? He's in a vehicle....it's a black......tank. Commissioner Gordon; "Ooh, I got to get me one of those." Pursuing police officer; "He's flying on rooftops!" The set is going to do just fine.

  4. I've been holding out for a couple locally at RRP. I might just go ahead and get them. I've been waiting for a discount. Lucked into a private sale this morning via a blind EBay message. Didn't appear to be scammy and just a LEGO enthusiast. They offered to accept an invoice. Town Hall, Fire Brigade and Grand Emporium for $1080

  6. In the process of sorting/ building from my $280 bulk purchases over the past two weeks. There are two diagon alleys, two burrows, a Hogwarts castle and express, rancor pit , and some ninjago sets. I can't believe how tedious and time consuming this is. Building a diagon alley now.

  7. Between a birthday this week and Easter we had a few things to build today. 41089 Little Foal 10665 Spider-Man: Spider-Car Pursuit 70736 Attack of the Morro Dragon Morro Dragon looks and builds so much better than I expected. I really liked it.

  11. A Swiss retailer has added some placeholders for the summer sets. Main conclusions are that the Porsche will cost at least 300 euros and does not require batteries - that likely means no PF included. Strange box size too, like the Mini but twice as thick. It has all the hallmarks of being the August exclusive release.

  12. Is it true? Did I actually use points today to get something? Yes! Thanks to @California92563 who walked me through it over the course of the entire day. Geez...I'm old and don't get this technology stuff I guess. Got myself 31044 Park Animals for $9.50, after using a $6 off $12. Let's see if this can start turning into something else.

  13. I went to the Science and Industry in Chicago last weekend with my family and we went through the Lego Exhibit there. They had an area in the back where people could create their own buildings with tons of open Architecture Studio sets as the building material. Overall it was quite incredible to see some of these sculptures.

  14. Really enjoyed this build, mostly b/c my almost 6 yo did it himself. Love the turquoise bricks too. Side note question for any reading...I went to the Science & Industry last week and got several pictures of the new exhibit there. Pretty impressive. Where would be the best place to post some of those being that I certainly didn't "build" them?

  17. Did a TRUTH run on Thursday and picked up 3 42009 Mobile Crane MK II for $130 after 10% CC discount. 20% coupon did not apply since they were on sale at 40% off. The boxes are in kind of rough shape so I hope they sell. Also picked another crane that had a pretty much destroyed box. The manager did a price adjustment to $99.99, before the 40% discount was applied. So it ended up being $60. Considering parting out or building it since the box is in such bad shape. Also picked up: 2 60043 City Prisoner Transporter at $14.99 each 1 21301 Birds - Doing my part to get it retirement. 2 60034 City Arctic Helicrane 40% off

  18. I was itching to use that 20% off coupon since it was the last day. Ended up with a UCS slave I for $173 out the door. My TRU had one on the shelf much to my surprise. I did get that free ninjago promo with it as well. Also went to a local liquidation store and they had a sealed ucs tie fighter. Walked away paying $150 cash for it.

  23. Sold some mega bloks in a lot of minifigures. I happened to sell to the one mega bloks collector snob out there. He says I left a few random pieces out-of a lot (99% minifigs with a few tree stump things), and a cape is different color. I can shenanigans, but no one ever buys mega bloks except this guy. I just about want him to file a SNAD case, because there is no way I would want to keep that crap

  30. topic: GC (GIFT CARD) TRU GC at ebay.com $85 for $100 (email delivery) -> Error Codes: 70245 70358 TRANSACTION_REFUSED RESULT: morning: called PayPal, talked to 3 different levels of support, transferred to ebay, tried few things and ebay bounced me back to paypal, had to go back to work evening: called PayPal again, spent hours on the phone and eventually the last rep told me that I really had to wait 24 hours before I could complete my purchase today: the $85 for $100 email delivery is gone unfortunately I have to agree that, sometimes, depending on circumstances, GC excellent deals might make you waste so much time that the savings are not so worth it

  31. Perhaps the lavender base of the bumper car section is a bit much in terms of color but oddly enough the palette choice on everything else is not too far off from some theme park attractions. If anything getting a Top Spin ride plus a little cotton candy cart is sweet.

  36. The new film is horrible. It curently has a 29% critic score on rotten tomatoes Batman begins was 85% Dark night was 94% rises was 87% So it's not even close. BATMANvSUPERMAN sold well the first weekend because of 2 big names but will quickly fall off and be remembered as a very bad movie. Which It was. Tumbler is and will stay the most iconic batman display piece for at least another couple of years.

  43. I was feeling reasonably upbeat this morning, talk about being a mood killer, I'll just go and hide under my desk now. Or will I, no, no I won't, instead lets talk about low oil prices, record low interest rates and actual rising employment in Europe (unemployment down from 11% in 2013 to 9% now).

  44. I agree with some of what you are saying. Nevertheless, coming from a business stand point, Legos at TRU are generally higher (due to there contractual agreements with Lego). We have to look at this with two sets of eyes. One from the general buyer and the other through the eyes of an investor. For the average buyer...they are not in the mind set know the price differences (or even care to check). They go in with their kids and come out with toys for them. For them to exclude legos during 20% would not really affect their bottom line. Because majority of their buyers are not investors. Their mark up makes up for the difference in other items as well. The investor: Why would I buy a set from TRU at ~15% higher price when I can get the same set from S&H or another seller? Now, when they introduce a 20% coupon (or another promotion) that drives the price of the product lower than SRP...is where the fun begins (especially with TRUTH). The minds of all investors start to work in over drive (and you can't say they they don't). I have read many posts that include TRUTH, GC, rewards and these kinds of promos for a single purchase resulting in outstanding savings leading to a low investment cost. The digital single use coupon is the way of the future (it will get there eventually). This would be in line with what Dunkin Donuts does with their free beverage reward through their mobile app. Once its scanned, it disappears from the device. Side note: I dont claim to know all about Lego investing and the tactics used to obtain them as the lowest price possible. But, I do have 3 properties that deal with guests all day long 24/7. As an owner of these properties for more than 20 years, I have dealt with the same tactics when guests are trying to save as much as they can. I don't blame, I encourage it. This has driven all three properties to be in the top 3 in each of their locations. This in turns, drives more business to all of my properties compared to my competitive set in my market, resulting in more revenue.
