Finally had time to make the 2+ hour trek to Atlanta to one of the LEGO stores for double VIP and picked up the following: 1. 10240 Creator Tower Bridge for $239. Wifey says "the Tower Bridge is mine, and I haven't built it yet. Why don't you buy the damaged box one they have today for me to build and we can save the pristine box one for a rainy day" 2. 71006 Simpson's House for $199 (I decided my recent BN Kwik-E-mart acquisition needed a friend). I picked up an extra 1000 VIP points because the seals were loose on one flap of each box and the manager had to secure them with some extra clear tape. As they are both for personal builds, I welcome the extra $50 discount. No other box damage noted. 3. Complete set of 9 figures from Mixels series 7 for $45. I've only seen these in person at one store so far, with no discounts available. Double VIP seemed reasonable. 4. Pitates chess 40158 for $49. My boys want this this set for Easter, so wifey told me I was buying it. I know better than to argue. 5. Easter chick 40202 for $10. Wifey hands one to me and says "why don't I have one of these yet, they're cute?" (Of course I have 5 coming in the mail Monday). 6. 3 X Ninjago KAI's mini dragon 30422 for $0.3 points

Im located in Northern New England - about as far from Fred Meyer as possible and I got my local TRU to price match. YMMV but worth a shot. I just argued that it specifically lists FM in their price match policy. The store manager couldn't really argue.2 points

If you take a lot of pride in the photos you shoot the only way to prevent lazy people from stealing your photos is to place a water mark on your photos. This is easy to do, but if you have a lot of listings can be quite time consuming. If you choose to do this approach in the future make sure your water mark covers the item and background. this makes it harder to photoshop out. (see image below) Another option is to put a small sign with your store name on it in front of the item. Example2 points

there is no new box design of the Pet Shop. just a "what if" discussion . battle of the Undercutters is just getting underway as the alchemists try to turn plastic into gold - there has been some furious penny pinching action just this evening looking at the brickpicker stock monitor. It sounds like they were leaked somehow(maybe from a factory). I don't think they would risk their reputation on knockoffs. Maybe there is some minor imperfection. I would prefer to wait for sealed polybag during promotion.1 point

I cannot answer that question, honestly. There was talk here about people having access to "unofficial channels" to get their wares. OTOH, some retailers have been putting stuff out before the official release date in the past so it is possible that these have been scooped up somewhere at a Target or TRU or WM somewhere. Though in that case I would have expected to see the entire set listed, not just the minifig.1 point

Currently £20 off £100 spend on selected Amazon warehouse items. Some Lego sets in the warehouse toys and games section that are eligible. I just picked up a 'LEGO Architecture Studio' which was listed at £100.03, so just eligible for the £20 discount and then also had a £7 code from the Amazon gift card purchase offer which I could use also, to make it £73.03 all in....so about half RRP. I'd nearly bought when it was recently reduced to £109ish new at Amazon, but couldn't resist the with the extra discount off.1 point

If you don't have a WM that is stunting with these recently released sets, here are a few good deals from Kmart.com, especially if you have some SYW coupons or points (and DO check your account there - I woke up this morning to 10,000 extra points for no apparent reason): 41078 Skyra's Mysterious Sky Castle MSRP $79.99 now $66.99 41122 Friends Adventure Camp Tree House MSRP $79.99 now $63.991 point

I have some empty boxes on display when I really like the look of a box. The box size of 10232 Palace Cinema stayed the same between old and new box design. So there must be other reasons as well.1 point

how many is "some" and how many did you sell to this one buyer? it was ridiculous for you to tell them to contact shop at home. anytime you say "could have sworn" it means "i didn't check". for a set that cost you $30 out of pocket and brought you negative feedback, i'd say ok - return the set and i'll give you a refund just to get rid of the feedback (coming from a guy with 100% + feedback since the 1990s). i'm surprised you didn't get a SNAD (significantly not as described) which is why i don't think you were being scammed. scammers like money, not leaving negative feedback.1 point

Regarding photos - I can also attest that using "stock photos" (via Brickset) vs actual photos does not result in a statustically significant sales outcome (based on my analysis across ~350 items the past 24 months). HOWEVER, my analysis is based on a few key assumptions: (1) seller has a credible track record established (50+ positive feedbacks) and sold via Ebay, (2) listing is clear that the item pictured is "in hand" with no reason to suspect a drop shipper, and (3) listing is for a complete or partial ("parted out") set item that is in the $5-$150 range. I have not crunched any numbers for high value ($150+) sets, or individual brick lots. If anyone else has run any similar studies, I'd love to hear the parameters and findings, perhaps we can marry up our data and find some complimentary insights...1 point

Derricku - You've pro'ly gotten the message already but I like to talk, so... I made the same mistake when I started out... sold one of my first items at a small loss via auction. I thought eBay was all about auctions, but for selling Lego, BIN is the way to go. Just take a look at the last 12 Friends Grand Hotels sold on eBay (all sold in the last week or so): BuyItNow (price with shipping): $100, $99, $89, $100, $108, $107, $100, $100, $105 Auction: $77 + shipping, $77 + shipping, $73 + shipping That's all the evidence you need that (for this set anyway) auction sellers are dopes I have read that eBay auctions are best for more rare, highly desired items. I've been selling about 2 years now and can't think of any reason to sell anything (even the "rarer" items) in my collection by auction. There are Brickpickers who will dispute this... some use auctions all the time and claim to make big money. But for an item like this, still widely available in stores, and with 140 sellers on eBay, I just don't see that happening.1 point

Well, when I purchase a lego from The lego store or LS@H, I track my purchase price as the amount I pay. All the points I accumulate are free money which I use to discount what I pay on sets in the future. This is better than treating the VIP points as a continual discount on every purchase, which I could use it for, simply by applying some points to every future purchase that equal the points gained by the purchase. But some sets don't need the discount to accumulate in value. Since the vast majority of my sets are SW sets, I don't have to buy any set on discount for it to increase in value. They just might take time before they go up. Now, I would say, any set I'm planning to build and display, I strongly consider and often use VIP points and discount coupons on. That helps to balance out the depreciation, so I don't lose money. I'm very happy with my system for collecting. My goal is somewhat different from someone who might be trying to make money. I'm just trying to not loose money while collecting by trying to keep what I pay relatively close to the products value, which will increase for almost all of them in time.1 point
