Finished this one last night with my 5 and 7 year old. Found it in a beat up box for $30, so it was a no-brainer build. It must have been a success, because afterwards my daughter said: "I think I like the Star Wars Legos better than the Friends ones...or at least as much as the Friends ones." Score.6 points

I like stacking coupon eligible stuff with the $10 off $75 coupons and then stacking a points back coupon on top of that. I use points to get whatever I'm buying down to $50. Then I'll use a discounted gift card on top of that. This is pretty much my repeatable formula. Medium sized sets or a number of small sets are my target. I rarely buy large sets from them, unless they are near retirement or if I have a load of points in my account. Some people don't like the smaller sets, but they do great for me.2 points

Chapters/Indigo is doing 10x plum points on all lego sets and books until the end of the month. That works out to around a 15% discount if you save the points and redeem at the maximum level down the road. Might have to check a few stores to see what's on sale/clearance.2 points

I picked this up last night for grins and giggles, I was blown away by the quality of the book. It's really detailed both factually and in terms of its visual layout. It includes interviews with architects representing some of the biggest firms today, in which they explain their personal connection to LEGO and how LEGO imbues the core concepts of design in children (of all ages!). I will probably pick up a few more sets for play, but I don't see this as much of an investment set for the same reasons others have cited: I think it will be in production for a long time, and the price per brick is inflated. For those interested in buying this set to explore the concepts of architectural design, I would also recommend the LEGO Architecture book by Tom Alphin. It's a lot less dense than the book that comes with 21050, but for someone with very limited knowledge of architecture (like myself), it gives a quick and engaging overview of the history of architecture. It also includes instructions for small builds that are representative of the various styles of architectural design, which makes it a great companion piece for the set. Even without this set, it works well as a nice little coffee table book. But you don't have to take my word for it!2 points

Did you check your "stranded inventory" to see if it was warehouse damaged? Also try running your daily inventory report for that item under the fulfillment reports and see when it dropped off.2 points

The sets were "purchased" at Barnes and Amazon using stolen Credit Cards or other shady business. Then dropshiped to his address. By buying he indadvertedly contributed to criminal activity. This thread is not the place to rant about this but there is plenty of related discussion on BP that you might want to read. Just remember the easy rule of thumb: If it looks too good to be true, it is too good to be true.2 points

If you are missing an item during recieving you have to reconcile your shipment from the shipping queue and that will automatically open a case . if an item goes missing after it was recieved by amazon u can select other Amazon issues and make your case. Some screens shots or details about the item movement will tremendously help your case . It is almost a guaranteed reimbursement if you have the facts right.2 points

I found this remarkable and quite unexpected! In the large (more than 60,000 members) LEGO Community on Google+ I put up a poll asking people to vote for favourite Advanced Modular building from the five currently available (i.e. not officially Retired) sets. The result really surprised me: Mind you: these people who voted are not resellers but kids, teenagers and adults who play with Lego and enjoy building sets and MOCs. I'm really stunned about the overwhelming preference for Detective's Office where I had expected a much larger liking for Parisian Restaurant. Even Palace Cinema got more votes than the restaurant! Does anyone here have a good explanation for this remarkable result?2 points

I spoil you guys sometimes LittlewoodsIreland.ie or Very.co.uk have 3 for 2 on some Star Wars sets, particularly Shuttle Tyderium, Death Star Final Duel and the First Order Snowspeeder. They also have Ninjago's Final Flight of Destiny's Bounty and in the UK only they have Attack on Avengers Tower, also 3 for 2. The prices are slightly above RRP, but still very good savings. For me it worked out as Shuttle Tyderium's for €70 each and Death Star Final Duel's for €60 each.2 points

Yes, but Grand Hotel is just a year old ... not retired at all. Selling a retired set (granted, in a desirable line) is a completely different game than selling a set when you're competing with normal retail channels, especially since platforms like EBay (12-13%) and Amazon (18-20%) take a big chunk of your profits. And with big sets you have to compete with their free shipping policies as well, which for us mortals means for big sets: big bucks.2 points

First lesson: Never sell via auction unless you don't care what price you sell for. As it stands, you have now sponsored someone's Grand Hotel because assuming you can indeed ship that big box for $14, your total sale price for EBay and Paypal's purposes is $91, and they will take 13% between the two of them - $12. If you didn't have any shipping costs (i.e. you have a box ready) and don't factor in the time it took to hunt this deal and gas etc, you are making $65 (so your loss is the tax you paid on the purchase - assuming 7% (but could be higher) this is ~$5 lost. Then again, the best lesson is a painful lesson. I think you would have easily sold if you put it up as a 10 or 30 day BIN for $99 plus shipping, or even higher (but including shipping). That doesn't make you a ton of money either, but you should be able to get ~$10-$15 out of it. Alternatively you can list as auction, but set your beginning bid at a level where you at least make a profit. All this is of course assuming your only strategy is a Quick Flip, which will be hard on the Grand Hotel as it is readily available at retail (and sometimes at a discount). As this is a pretty neat set (a Trump style hotel with all the gold ) it will likely go up slightly in value post retirement, or, around the Christmas holidays if stock runs out. Those are the right moments to sell this set - not now when they can be bought at retail or less. You might want to consider putting them in a closet and forgetting about them for 6 months or longer, then check back. Or see if you can sell them for $100 on Craigslist -> no fees, or put them up here on Brick Classifieds (also no fees).2 points

Always listen to the wife. Mine always complained that I didn't let her build Lego sets, so I offered to have her help me built the Parisian Restaurant. She's now hooked. The Parisian Restaurant is a great build with lots of details. We built the new Lakeside Lodge recently and she was insistent on building the moose. It's all good!2 points

It is not a store-wide discount that everyone will get. Need to have at least some version of the coupon. Will work best with a physical coupon. Less chance of being rejected by cashier or manager. Your store may accept the digital version of the coupon on the first page of this thread. They may also not accept it.1 point

A wide range of TFA products are gated by Amazon. It is unlikely that this will change and the number of products subject to the gate will likely expand each year. Basically, we are looking at a future where almost every new SW toy will be subject to the gate and can only be sold on Amazon by authorized resellers. In order to get past the gate, you have to submit information to Amazon to show that you have authority to sell SW products. You can do this through a letter of authorization from the manufacturer or through invoices from a wholesale distributor (retail receipts are insufficient). However, I have been told that the wholesale invoices must reflect purchases of a variety of different gated products in "significant quantities." So, there is no easy way to slip under the gate.1 point
