  1. 75137 - Carbon-Freezing Chamber I might be in the minority, but this is an enjoyable little build and I see potential in this set. Nice minifigures, no stickers, good build, good parts and playability. I plan on building on to this quite a bit, with scaffolding around the outside and hopefully making it a big enough chamber to allow for the Luke/Vader confrontation. They fit quite a bit into a $25 set here.

  3. All done . Need a cigarette and I don't even smoke. build was the most challenging that I have encountered . Parts 1 & 2 get things going with things getting really interesting in parts 3 ( gear box/back ) and definitely 4 (arm) and 5 (front) . Part 6 is a breeze and a good cool down . It does get frustrating at some points as is the case with most advanced Technic sets . There always seems to be the inevitable mess up where a gear doesn't click into place or something is not aligned correctly. Atleast for me anyways. The end product is amazing as display piece and everything works as advertised. Front of the truck is sure to start a conversation or two. Highlight being watching the arm come to life and maneuvering it . Drawbacks : -I would have gladly paid a little extra to have a small engine added - power function doesn't include the tires . 9/10

  6. The two Audi just came in today. Ended up immediately sitting down to put together the R18 e-tron quattro instead of actually getting going with my day. Presented "in-context". I had to shove off to the tiny parc ferme area the one of the two Porsche so I can have the R18 passing the GTE-Pro Ferrari from last year's wave. Some nice multi-angle build ideas in this one to achieve the very challenging controur's of today's LMP1 class cars. Considering the scale, not at all bad. Looking forward to the Porsche 919 set! (click to enlarge) I'll skip the pickup trucks, Camaros, Mustangs and Corvette of this year's wave though, no interest in the "civilian" vehicles. But as an Endurance racing nutter, I am happy Lego caters to my interests so well.

  10. Super Heroes stuff is probably the weakest official license line since Lone Ranger here now and the smaller the set, the worse it gets. A lot of us foolishly invested in these on the back of recommendations from the US but that won´t be happening again. The Tumbler´s post retirement performance shows that even the most sought after sets from the line are no more than average investments as they are very hard to move at a premium price.

  11. If you're unconvinced, that's fine and you should stay as far away from those sets as you can. All that means is less competition for the rest of us.

  12. I don't get it either, but there's Friends sets from the past that have done really well and hopefully it's not just because it was the first wave. Sets like Olivia's house were had for $40ish, now selling $100+. Heartlake High, Sunshine Ranch, a couple recently retired and on the rise. As a house of only boys and and a rack full of purple and pink already, I'm a bit skeptical in buying any more sets that we have no desire in ourselves. However, bought at the right price, I don't see any Friends set being a loss.

  18. I sold all of mine for $90 during the holidays. In the past, I'd say you wouldn't have any trouble pulling in $90 for 10682 again around the same time. With the way LEGO is flooding in brick boxes the past couple years, I won't speculate. I'm passing, I had my fun.

  21. One additional piece of advice...if you want to make money selling Lego, you should not waste time trying to rationalize the behavior of buyers and, instead, accept the fact that it is a fundamentally irrational market. For example, there is no rational explanation for why a set like a $10 set like 10666 (Junior Digger) is selling for over $50 on Amazon just as there is no rational explanation for why the 2006 version of the X-Wing (6212) languished after retirement and struggled to hit 2x MSRP on the secondary market while the 2012 version (9493) rocketed after retirement and hit 2x MSRP within a few months. I could sit here for a few hours citing similar examples because they are legion. If you spend your time trying to make sense of who is buying Lego on the secondary market and why they are buying them, you are going to get frustrated and miss out on a lot of opportunities. You'll be much better focusing on the products themselves and looking for the patterns in what does and doesn't do well on the secondary market.

  22. I sold one of my red 5's to a friend and fellow collector at cost plus some small sets for my kids. I am a little sad it is gone now but at least I have another. Plus it's good to have friends, maybe they will find a set I'm looking for.

  28. Sort of. I am not going to assume you are new to this necessarily based on post count, but for those who are, there are a lot of examples where it doesn't "make sense" that someone would pay some elevated price when they could buy 2-3x as much at retail, but it happens all the time. That's all. And the avatar, yes, I have a framed/signed copy I am looking at right now in my office. A classic. :-)

  29. Honestly, you are better off in this game not trying to determine what is logical by the buying public. I have scaled back my Friends purchases, but somehow people find these things and are willing to buy them. Sunshine Ranch is not from the first wave, I picked them up for $35-$40, and I expect them to be $100 pretty quickly.

  30. I'm inclined to agree with Basictoaster. I have a hard time picturing the target market for this set. In your opinion, what demographic is buying a generic set with no intrinsic nostalgic value at 2-3 times the original price when they could get more for their money by purchasing currently stocked sets at MSRP?

  31. I don't think so, I'm sure alpinemaps would grab the one that is for sale for $200 (and flip it for $300-$400)..shipping isn't bad either, $2.54.... So compared to the $500 one, this is a deal, mods, pls feel free to move this post to Daily Deals as that's what this OBVIOUSLY is, lol

  37. Finally waited out some discounts and made my official first LEGO investment purchases! I can finally consider myself a BrickPicker (Hordeling?) I got all of these from TRU today at 35% off, which seems like an incredible deal! Not to mention getting 3x the TRU rewards points for LEGO purchases....it wound up being more like ~48-50% off the total purchase. Insane. Now the hard part is trying to decide what to open and what to save! I bought 2x Arctic Ice Breaker, 2x Spaceport, 2x Beach Hut, and 2x Changing Seasons, all with the intention of opening one and saving the other, but now I'm nervous about opening even one of them (especially the Arctic Ice Breaker!) What do you guys think? How do you guys feel about selling used vs sealed-in-box?

  38. Very interesting development. Maybe this is our first retirement list of the year and has been done to make way for some March released. A little surprise that they are discounting 2016 sets -one to watch out for if they get pulled after less than a year. TBBT discounted in its primary sales market is not a great sign either but if it retires before the summer, ching ching.

  45. I finally made a display of the HP sets that I picked up last month. These are the ones that I am keeping (more accurately giving away on an extended loan) and I never knew that you could stack the 4709 castle (or any of series 1) on top of other sets; that is really cool! I think that the second picture gives you a view of one castle in front of the other to make it appear larger when looking straight on because the roofing tiles line up perfectly. There are 3 castles, Dumbledore's office, forbidden corridor, Snape's class, Maurader Map, a Buckbeak, and Gringott's Bank in these pictures
