This is a great project that we undertook with our 6 year old as a way of making him a part of our "sales team." The map represents about 160 sales from 2015, starting with our first Lego sale in March. Each customer gets a pin on the map and then as we ship to a new state my son gets to use the computer to look up an interesting fact about that state, and then write it in a journal. That way he is learning cool facts, and practicing his handwriting and computer skills. I bet he is the only kid in his class that knows what a peninsula is (Florida), or what the state song of Connecticut is (Yankee Doodle). Ive been waiting for a sale to Alaska so we can learn about archipelagos, but that may just be the geography nerd in me coming out. Multiple sales to a city get a larger pin, and we have them for the cities you would expect like New York, Chicago, LA. Some surprising ones too like Chattanooga Tennessee. Wouldn't have guessed that one but we ship quite a few items to multiple buyers there. I wish now that I would have sprung for the bigger world map, as we have had 15 international sales that could have been added on that I was not anticipating having made. Besides being a great learning project for my son, it has been useful to me to validate our shipping fee practices as I can easily see where most of my customers are from, and although it is skewed towards the east coast, I still have a fair amount headed out west. I know this wouldn't be practical for some here as their volume is much too large, but for a small timer like myself this is a fun way to involve your kids in your hobby. And have something cool on your wall that people will ask about. My thanks go out to everyone here for the advice and insights over the past year, and I wish everyone a great 2016!
  2. I'm glad I went deep into the hood tonight to Walmart. Saw some Jabba Barges for $49, but passed on them. Then I ran across some City Square sets (60097) that I didn't even realize Walmart carried in store. They didn't scan with a price so I took one to the guest service counter. Cashier couldn't get it to come up with a price either, so she called over the assistant manager who took it over to the manager. A few minutes later she comes back and she's on the horn with the manager. I can hear her talking, "Yeah, it's the big one". She tells the cashier, "Okay, department 7 ... twenty-three ninety-six." I thought that was some kind of price code, so I asked her politely what the price ended up being. "$23.96" was her response with a smile. "That's a good deal I bet." "Yeah, that's a pretty good deal. Are you sure that price is right?", I said. "Yup, that's what the manager says." "Alright, mind if I grab another one?" "Go ahead, if there's any more left!", she said. I ran back and grabbed one more and left two of them on the shelf. Checked out and then prayed on the way back to my car that I didn't get jacked with those two sets in my arms.
  3. Every good cheat sheet should have this just in case. ....? It's not that sort of cheat sheet? Oh well, never mind then.
  4. Built all 9 Creator building models yesterday/today. Here are the primaries with one another, and with the smallest of the modulars. Next project is to take the 2k pieces and see if I can make a true modular out of them.
  5. Both Ed and I would like to thank each and every one of our members and guests for allowing us to have the best year ever. It was an amazing year of new opportunities and expansion. We launched new products and hit milestones that the two of us joked about hitting not too long ago. Brickpicker just celebrated its fourth full year of existence and we couldn’t be happier that early in our fifth year we are oh so close to registering 55,000 members. Because of the success we have had, Ed and I were honestly blown away when I received an email through our contact us form that I honestly thought was a joke at first. I couldn’t believe that someone was contacting us to write a book. I remember messaging Ed saying “Hey, you want to write a book?” Ed laughed until I did a little more research and learned that this was indeed a real inquiry. We really didn’t know what we were in for, but in November, our book The Ultimate Guide to Collectible LEGO® Sets: Identification and Price Guide was released and we are both very proud of the end result. The publishers of the book have been pleased with it’s success and invited us to write another about minifgures which we are inviting the community to help us with and be part of. If you haven’t been to the site in awhile, please read the following post and see how you can be part of the book. If we head back to the beginning of 2015, we launched a major new product called Brick Classifieds. Brick Classifieds is a LEGO marketplace that has been in the works for years and had many different versions as our thoughts of project changed over and over. Was it going to be more like eBay, more like BrickLink, maybe both and maybe neither. In the end we decide not try to reinvent the wheel but just create something that was pretty simple. Overall it is more of a mix of eBay and Etsy. In case you have not visited Brick Classifieds or were not even aware of it, it is a FREE marketplace. List your LEGO products for FREE and if you sell something, you keep all the profits (not including Paypal fees). That isn’t too bad right? I am very happy to say that like most new sites as they hit their first year in business, it is finally starting to get noticed and business is picking up. New vendors are signing up regularly, sales are happening daily and the feedback I am getting is very positive. Give it a whirl and post your items or buy from the 500+ vendors that are already selling on the site. You have nothing to lose! Throughout the year, Brickpicker itself is always being tweaked and updated. The forum received a major upgrade that is never very easy and always has a few hiccups, most of which should be behind us now. The upgrade, while a pain to perform, was necessary for growth and expansion in the future. The forum mobile app is catching up now and just released a new updated version on iOS with an update to Android coming as soon as next week. We launched a very popular Stock Tracker that checks major retailers relentlessly to let us know when hot sets are back in stock via Email & SMS and our Target Inventory Tracker is probably one of the most used features on the site. Where do we go in 2016? Who knows, but the sky's the limit they say. If you asked us a few years ago if we would have more than 7 million visitors with over 20 million page views, I would have said you were nuts and tell us another joke, but that has become a reality which I guess we need to try and top now. I can tell you that a major focus will be on revamping the Brickfolio. That is a necessity that is long overdue. Mobile expansion for both Brickpicker and Brick Classifieds is on the list as well. There will be more announcements throughout the year on a few other projects we are working on, but we are not ready to jump into any of that just yet. So one last time, we would like to thank all of you for being part of the Brickpicker family. We would especially like to thank our mod team for keeping an eye on the site when we can’t. If you are a member that hasn’t check in on the site in a long time, visit us again and see what you have been missing, there is always something fun or crazy going on in the forums. It is the place to be!! HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!! ED & JEFF MACK View full blog article

Here's my next train MOC. We have a coal hopper car and my first train engine MOC with power function. I think it turned out pretty well. And yes, that's a shadow trooper manning the controls
  7. Picked this up at the Lego store to build already sold the figs for $150. This will be a hard set to keep MISB as the weight of all the elements makes the bottom of the box bow out. Probably best to store flat or on its side. 2 per case.
  8. You left $49 sail barges and 2 $24 city squares..... Congrats but wow you should have cleaned them out
  9. All at 10% off MSRP: Bounty T-16 x2 Man-bat Attack x2 Technic Cargo Plane 40166 x an embarrassing number AT-DP x2 Oh, here's 40166:
  10. It looks fine to me from here. My QAR is on loan to @Alpinemaps he just doesn't know he has to return it yet
  11. I think we need a poll to decide what parameters the main poll should incorporate.
  12. Nope not yet, but this thing looks great in person. Was able to get it cheap on TRUTH so well worth the cost. Some neat building techniques. ESB was my fav and OWTC was most challenging.
  13. It´s these Americans who are only used to politicalopinion polls with 2 options
  14. Sea cow and DS are back on the website ! TRU is really pissing me off !
  15. Had to leave some deals for little Timmy!
  16. If you are in need of another QAR, I can hook you up. Just sayin.

Happy New Year again, Pet Shop. May you retire before the champagne goes flat.
  18. Others: Roller Coaster or other Carnival ride
  19. 9496 Star Wars Desert Skiff $49.99 ebay bin free smartpost shipping on ebay x 2 in the last few days. from the $16 june 2014 target blowout. still have a bunch of these left to unload but going to raise the price . would like to see this get to $75 in the next year. expecting a remake or at least announcement of a remake by 2018.
  20. How's this street scene for starting the new year, huh? Modular City Street Side by Tavernellos
  21. Going to see it in exactly five minutes!
  22. Starting to pop up more frequently in my sold items over 50 euros filter.
  23. It seems that today begins at midnight the time balances in the European Lego store. http://shop.lego.com/en-PT/Sales-And-Deals LEGO Sale, Toy Sale, Toys on Sale, Toy Deals _ LEGO Shop _ LEGO Shop.html
  24. So I finally finished reading DK's TFA visual dictionary. Honestly, it could be considered a prerequisite prior to watching TFA for true SW nerds like me. It see fills in storyline / plot gaps that some of us typed about. E.g. Note folks thought it was Luke's helmet. It wasn't I like R2's info..
  25. I am really glad they are now listing the polys online. Starting to be more like the US.... now lets see that TRU Mastercard and TRUTH
  26. One full train complete. One 80%ish. The partial has been finished up via BL and sold, only pricy missing pieces were 2 of the large tan windows. I kept the other one and added power to it. Most of the missing pieces I had on hand.
  27. Brick Bank from the LEGO store! It was quite busy and there was a line to get in when they opened. Ghostbusters Firehouses, Brick Banks, new Star Wars sets and new Super Heroes sets were flying off the shelves.
  28. Yeah it makes lots of sense to tell the enemy in which crafts are the valuable targets sitting. Hollywood logic LOL.
  29. It´s all in good humour. Everyone knows AFOL´s who buy on the secondary market don´t care about design. They want what they can´t get. When the Playmobil clone doubtless becomes the hidden gem of 2015 and everyone is celebrating 5x RRP, I´ll be in the garage with a pipe from the car exhaust in my big mouth.
  30. The minimum thickness you're referring to is a requirement for sending first class package rather than first class letter domestically. Letter rate has some other restrictions like not being rigid, the package must be uniformly thick, etc.). You do not want to send LEGO parts by first class letter - they will end up in mail sorting equipment and may destroy the packaging, and/or the LEGO inside the packaging. Using bubble mailers with first class package (not letter) rates is fine - we use plastic poly mailers as they're far more durable than paper, and reinforce with a "package within the package" of another layer of bubble wrap around the bagged parts, so that the parts shift as little as possible in transit. Once you're past 13oz in weight (or 16oz after Jan 17), you need to switch from first class package postage to priority mail of some type. That's where the priority mail padded flat rate envelope that Dads' mentioned comes in. I have also found that about 20 ounces of almost all types of parts can be shipped in these safely. There is no flatness, uniformity, or thickness restriction to these -- "if it fits, it ships".
  31. Happy New Year from New Jersey.!
  32. Well that's unbrickpicker like........
  33. Ask 100 random adults in the street who are not on drugs which one in the photo is the most kick ass ship and see what they say. SC is not bad but it has serious issues with its demographic that will make it hard to find a good home. I think it´s the 2014 Unimog, basically.
  34. This set is going to do just fine. It was the perfect set to buy in the current reselling environment for anyone looking to hold something a few years. Provided it isn't remade for TLM2, I expect this set to perform like the currently valuable sets did - a slow and steady increase.
  35. My son has one. It's an ok set, but nothing that stands out in my opinion. The canon on the front is fragile and breaks off easily. Kanan is in two or three other sets. And I'm not into wookies. Not a great set for investment IMO. But I'm just a newb on the site, what do I know.
  36. Was ready to not have chills. Got chills.
  37. Some of the following items are just "Lando cool" 11 Things Only Fans Of ‘Star Wars’ Will Understand The new Star Wars movie has been released to theaters. So what does this mean? 39. Posted on Brickset. "Barnes and Noble will be hosting an Architecture event for teens and adults at stores across the United States from January 16 to 31. According to their description, "Adults and teenagers (ages 14 and up), join us to help build our new LEGO® Skyline in-store display and enjoy a LEGO Architecture build with Architecture Studio bricks after."" http://brickset.com/article/18497/Barnes-and-Noble-stores-hosting-AFOL-Architecture-events
  40. Just a quick introduction: I live in Bordeaux (France), I am 41 years old, I have 2 kids (6 and 1). Since my kids is 4,5 and is interested into SW Legos, I have re-discovered the fun and the addiction of the legos... like when I was 6, myself. Since a year and half, all the family is involved in "OUR" Lego collection: I am trying to find the best prices for some of our favorite sets, mainly SW, my wife is building them and my older kid is playing and breaking them! I am more and more interested in the Lego Investment and I have discovered your website via some very interesting articles. I wanted to be part of your community as I have lot of things to learn about the Lego economy and I hope I will be able to help also one day. Have a Great Year 2016! Cheers,
  41. I want to come to your hood as my hood or getto does not have deals this good and I missed the yoyo deal on these
  42. Keep reading. Including the Lego ban thread because buying 4 at one time could get you banned in addition to it being a poor investment.
  43. Trek never jokes... he is totally serious about star wars
  44. While there may be a somewhat decent amount of unique large pieces such as the truck's ladder and I realize the "price per piece" formula is neither an exact science nor a good scale to use by itself, the final product here (just going by the box) simply does not appear to warrant $50 US honestly. At just $20 these Fire Trucks (4208 & 60002) were substantial, for $10 more the 60061 was a hefty rig, and finally a little more at $40 the 7213 offered a fair amount with 388 parts including minifigures. The Fire Truck in this set is nice and long with three good minifigures attempting to douse what's left of a tiny tower but it is not worth what is being asked. In my opinion I would say $40 or at worst $45 which is pushing it. I wouldn't touch this or similar sets unless they hit clearance.
  45. Salutations, Jdsomer.
  46. In my opinion, returning is not a wuss move especially if you are new to this. If you are within the return window, return some- spread them out if you have a few of that store in your area. Take it as a learning experience as the embarrassment of even returning 2+ at a time will be something you don't forget. Move on and don't be so quick to buy even based on our comments- I have learned much from fellow members that has been profitable, and also not so profitable, as we speak from our own experiences, and the outcome is not always what we imagined. Do your homework and make better decisions next time based on your research and not others. Bottom line if you can't afford them, it's ok to return some. Everyone who went in deep with JW may be in similar scenarios, as these were bought heavily for the resell market.
  47. Microfighters series 1 & 2. Fantastic little builds. Sydney Opera House (small) Big Ben Villa Savoye - this should be a real winner post EOL
  48. Growth will certainly be aided if they select the Science Adventures from the same Ideas designer in the Fall selection process. I don't know why they don't just hire her, I think she's worked on a couple of successful Ideas sets already. :-)
