  2. SSD. Bought this a few years ago assembled. I broke it down into 5x 1 gallon bags and have been dreading the build due to no baggies and the number of parts. I was so wrong. Very easy build from a big pile with a little pre-organization. I was a little sad when I finished...except for the big daddy pipe dream, I doubt I can find a build I will enjoy more. It's an absolute stunner of a display model too.

  3. Over the past few weeks we have been working on a portal for Brickpicker Authors. This portal will list all the content an author writes and share the traffic as well as Google Adsense revenue generated on those pages. This revenue will be shared with the author for writing that content. All the data is pulled directly from Google. There are Paypal options in the system that you will need to enter so that you can paid when you want to withdraw funds that you have earned. You can withdraw your funds at any time. Maybe you have $5 or you wait until you have $100. Once you submit your request, an invoice is generated from your account and sent to me to pay your invoice. If you are interested in helping to write news stories, blog articles, review and be paid for it, please reach out to Ed and myself. Here is a quick look at the portal!

  6. They got him gooch! " After literally thousands of shares between all our stores Facebook posts and countless news stories someone recognized the thief and called Beaverton police. Wouldn't you know it but when they showed up to the guys house they found R2D2 and have now arrested him and returned our little buddy to its rightful home at the Beaverton store. It's a Christmas miracle. "

  7. My gut feeling... I'm feeling better about my 10188s as it appears the replacement is going to be Starkiller Base and not a direct refresh. I bet Lego wants to capitalize more on the TFA than the OT or Rogue One in 2016.

  8. This just shows that the story itself wasn't that important - many of these scenes would have changed the movie. The cuts have had a permanent impact on the remaining story line (not that that matters to them, since it meant that they were able to fit in an extra screening per day). In all honesty, I would love to read Lucas's vision of the final trilogy (that he provided Disney, and they completely rejected) - that would be the real story, from the actual creator. Yes, he wouldn't have done as polished a job on the movie, but he would have cared - I would have appreciated his sense of meaning and purpose. The Disney story is no more than an expanded universe story line (and not a particularly good one) - only with the legal rights to say that it is more.

  9. As high as the perceived 'hoarding' of this set may be, i still know that when i went into several (3 different) Lego stores in early 2015, the sets had seal codes from July/August of 2013. This thing didn't sell for a lonnnnnnnnng time for many reasons. Perceived high price to brick ratio, no exclusive figs, rehash, etc. I still think this thing is UNDER hoarded relative to other modern sets, but we'll find out soon enough.

  13. Just curious - why don't you guys look at the weight in your cart, and compare it to the shipping rates on the store's "Store Terms" page? I just double checked in my store, and it works in there, even for sets. I always check the Store Terms before I even think about buying anything. It may not necessarily be perfect, but it certainly gives me a very close, rough idea of what to expect as far as weight of parts (or sets), and then postage costs and any additional fees. I always do that before I even start with a store, just to get an idea of what to expect. I've put in about 25 orders over the last 6 weeks, and so far, nothing has been terribly off. Usually it's right on or a l little less than I expect. Edit to add: Doing it that way doesn't require requesting a quote for the parts/sets either.

  15. Let's face it, ep7 is a reboot of a franchise. Disney just learned from Star Trek and 007 how to avoid a complete/hard reboot but still get a tons of cash out of it. For a reboot, a familiar setting / story / background is essential to hook the old fans and to capture new ones who have little to no knowledge of the franchise. There is no way on earth Disney was not going to play safe on this movie. Plus, this is Hollywood (and Disney) we are talking about. How many comic adaptations, reboots and sequels have we seen in the past 5 years? For Disney this was a cash grab with a hard deadline of 12/18 (lol at you who thought JJ had a choice to move this date up or down). Like it or not SW is now part of Disney merchandising machine. Safe familiar stories are the keys to get as much money out of consumers' wallets. Lastly, Disney knew SW fans are the most illogical bunch on earth, and Disney just love to exploit this. How many of you who complained have seen the movie more than twice? Three times? Four times? Seriously, people who complained about how dull and inspiring Transformers 2 movie did not come back to the theatres to watch it again and again. They also did not come back for Transformers 3, 4,etc etc.. And Disney also know ep8 will be a success EVEN IF it contains scene where Luke says to Rey, "No, I am your father" ETA: I am actually 85% sure, whoever Rey's dad is, he is going to say the above line to Rey in movie 8 It is all about (looks like someone woke up on the cynical side of the bed )

  16. It's a form of argument that establishes expertise. You show personal knowledge from your own experiences to lend weight/credibility to your arguments. I personally am not sure that I would have hit Ghost Shark 2 as often. Maybe just refer to it as "my movie" so that we're not so completely discounting his expertise based upon the title of an unknown probably 4th or 5th rate film. He does bring up some good points about the process. It doesn't change my enjoyment of the film. I don't know what anyone else was looking for, but I got the good time I hoped for. Expecting a new mythology and a new "First Star Wars" experience in this world that is almost 40 years post Star Wars is ridiculous. How can you set a new paradigm when you are deeply part of the previous paradigm? You know who got a "First Star Wars" experience? My wife and kids. My wife never saw any of the previous films in the theaters, and my kids are far too young. My girls left the theater pretending to be Rey, and my wife asked when we are going again. This film did its job. We're not promised great art and soul feeding storytelling, we're promised an outer space film where people fight with flashlights, guys in bucket armor stomp around and an dog/ape helps fly a hamburger ship. I know that the pastime of the internet is to gripe and groan about everything, and I don't deny anyone that right. I just don't understand why people are so angry at each other for their opinions. Why are those who disliked it so mad at those who do? Is it just a reaction to all of the disbelief and the get over yourself attitude that the fans have?

  19. I was actually thinking of Game of Thrones by the end of it, how they set up a cliffhanger and reason to come back with the way it ended. Which of course all started with Empire Strikes Back. I can nitpick all of the Star Wars films (with love) for various reasons but the issue I and I think most people have with the new one is a more fundamental problem and that is that we were fed a recycled version (basically a remake) of a movie we'd already seen. No surprise I suppose given that it was JJ (MIssion impossible and Star Trek Into Darkness) Abrams doing it. I did not wait 30+ years from Return of the Jedi for the next chapter only to be fed a story I'd already seen but with various plot points jumbled around and passed off as new, as technically beautiful as this new film was. Empire was not the same story as New Hope, and neither was Return of the Jedi despite the otherwise common element of the second Death Star. They were all very different stories, as were the prequels, but united around certain age old themes. A Death Star is not a theme. It reminds me of the South Park episode where the military approaches Hollywood directors for ideas about how to defeat aliens and Michael Bay keeps saying "explosions" until the general dismisses him saying "Explosions aren't ideas, they're just special effects". I enjoyed the prequels quite a bit and find this latest movie too small in scale and too derivative. At least with the prequels Lucas attempted to enlarge the story and show us a different point of view of the Star Wars galaxy. I didn't get that here, and that's particularly disappointing since I was really enjoying the movie due to the charisma of the new characters and the more original plot points right up until a certain planet appeared. At that moment I knew exactly what was going to happen from then on and the goodwill of the first half of the movie evaporated. I now understand why the prequels are so widely disliked. It's not because of Jar Jar, or midichlorians, or Hayden Christenssen. It's because they weren't exactly copies of the originals judging by the overdone praise many people are heaping on this recycled story as "fresh" and "original". They had better have something new up their sleeve for Episode VIII, because even the most awestruck fan of this story can only have it retold so many times before losing interest. And if their "original" idea is for Luke to say "I am your father" then I will laugh out loud in the theatre.

  28. I prefer to create a NEW wanted list of ordered items, with the order # in the comments, or a list of the order # itself and then delete it after you have received the order and checked that everything is correct. This allows you to continue to sort by "wanted list by shop" and deselect your list of "ordered items, or the order #" and it will be easier to sort through all of the incoming orders. Sometimes you will have to order from multiple vendors for the same sku and I simply leave myself a note in the comments in that case (and don't move the item to the new list).

  32. (for anyone reading the CT Madness thread.... and for those not, just read the last few pages with an eye to what might be considered unethical behaviour) I don't personally see anything wrong with trying to get a price match if you're within the time frame. I am surprised they are quoting 45 days since their website says 15 days... and I am surprised that they are doing price match in-store with a return-repurchase if you bought online since that also goes against their policy, but I don't think it's unethical - especially for those who tried online for their online purchase and were refused. I also see that the clearance stuff shouldn't have been price matched, but it certainly seems like a loose policy. I'll put it this way ... if retailers want to play games with prices after a product is sold out to make their "sales" and "clearance" prices look better - i.e. so uninformed consumers say "Damn, that was a good sale too bad I missed it!" then I think we as consumers (resellers or not) are entitled to get a price match. In this case, nobody intentionally bought out all the stock with the intent of getting a clearance price match. Nobody lied about products being in-stock to get a price match (or at least advertised that they did). It just seems like people legitimately bought these sets then they went on sale/clearance and I think they are entitled to the advertised discount. Please let me know if that does not makes sense.

  36. They are not retiring the Exto 1, Look at the Product info on the Ghostbusters HQ and it says the 21108 Ecto 1 will fit in the House, so if the Ecto 1 is retired, what is Lego going to tell the thousands of people who call and complain, If you want the Ecto 1 get it on Ebay or Amazon for $100 or so. Not saying down the road Lego comes out with a new one, and changes the info on the HQ. My Lego store in MD got in cases of them. Ed

  37. I was sad to see this theme go without some of the major characters from LOTR such as Faramir, Denethor, Eowyn, and the Witch King (non-ghost form) getting the minifigure treatment and a lack of anything from Osgiliath, Gondor, or Pelennor Fields (other than the Pirate Ship Ambush). I would have taken 3-4 more LOTR sets in place of some of the Hobbit sets that we did get, but the writing was on the wall by early 2014 that it wasn't meant to be.

  39. Oh goodness no, to the stock market. Simple fact that one will not loose money on a tumbler, good luck with that in the stock market. It amazes me how deep these threads go on the unending debate for every set, with all the same questions and answers. Tumbler will do fine, it will beat almost all other alternative asset classes on a year over year basis. That does not mean 50-100% return in 12 months.

  40. Yes, instructions I bought online. http://www.brickbuilderspro.com/queen-anne-victorian-instructions/ I wasn't totally satisfied as there were some odd arrangement of parts inside and no spark of creative build techniques. I think the designer builds only in LDD and not physical, so there are some nuances that would be done differently if you had actual bricks in hand. Looks good on the shelf though!

  43. People should also realize that good things can happen if a person writes well and starts producing content. It's not only good for the site, but good for them as well. You never know when someone will come knocking asking you to write a book. If Jeff and I can do it, many of you can as well. I think Jeff also forgot to mention we are willing to pay for quality content. It's something that has to be figured out, but we can discuss that with interested parties.
