  1. I guess this counts as building. Have to share the story. My grandfather passed away last year. He liked to build model airplanes and things but had never mentioned Lego at all. So I get a package in the mail from my grandmother that I opened today, addressed to my kids. Inside is a note that says grandpa had bought a couple of sets at one point to tinker with, and she thought my kids would put them to good use now. One set is 4095 from the Inventor series (which my son is furiously trying to put together now). Has some sort of battery pack recorder thing we have to figure out. Very cool. The other set was a yellow and chrome broken mess...that I realized was the 10026 UCS Naboo Starfighter. Now rebuilt, 100% complete with nameplate and everything. Unfortunately no instructions - had no idea how expensive those suckers are! Only 3 on Bricklink for like $90 each lol. Anyway I have never liked that Naboo Starfighter, but it certainly will hold a new place of honor in our house now. :-)

  8. No set appreciates in a straight line up. Look at the attached price chart for 10179. For the longest time everyone thought this set would never cross $2k. This is where I bought mine. Look where we are now. Same story goes for every other "special" set. Once the number of sellers drops below the magic number there is a very nice spike up and all the previous sellers give themselves a nice deserved face palm. In a cycle there are always multiple what I like to call face palm points. We have all been there but sooner or later it gets tiresome so you learn to forget the short term ups and downs and just wait it out if the long term game is your thing. Specifically relating to 10224 we had a face palm point in the mid $300's and now we are at one at $550 - $600 (USD). Once current sellers dump their stock there will be another nice spike up, and more face palming. If you are obsessed with short run blips then you can help yourself by avoiding the what I consider the three worst mistakes in reselling: auction, ebay, christmas time.

  9. Finally built Santa's Workshop. I figured since I'll be sitting on these for decades I might as well get used to building a new one every year until I'm social security eligible. Very cool build. I liked the details on Santa's sleigh and his reading chair. Overall a very cool set that we enjoyed building as a family. I wish it was bigger but for $70, great value.

  14. Just called Lego to pay a Lego order for a friend. When everything was arranged, I start a little bit of a general talk about the fact that the Tumbler was tagged 'retiring soon' and that I couldn't imagine it was retiring and really needed this set. Then she was looking in the system and said they had thousands 1.5 week ago and now only a few hundred left in inventory. She expected that it will last till next week and then it's done. She was willing to order also one on my account, but I think it's better that she is not having a look at my account ;-) so I told her I will buy these online myself lol. Well.. let's see if this set is truly done next week. According to her, their will be no restock after it is sold out. Gone = gone at least here in Europe. And oh yeah! A tip for when you call Lego and don't want them to see your order list: Just hide your number, I was told that the employeess will immediately see your complete history because a specific number is tagged to an account. Just hide your number and they know nothing about you or your history,

  17. I'm a small time trader, but I went early with these and am happy with my stash (all RRP but what can you do). My father is a bird-watcher and the first set that I purchased went straight to him. We built it together and he has it set up in his study at the moment. This set might have a wider appeal than most and the box is beautiful.

  19. The LEGO Dimensions game is The LEGO Group's first foray into the growing field of “Toys to Life”, where physical toys with RFID tags can be pulled into your gaming experience by placing the toy on a special portal. The gameplay is based on the hugely successful LEGO Star Wars, Harry Potter, Indiana Jones and more, by video game developer TT. LEGO Dimensions Starter Pack I purchased the Starter Pack on Black Friday, and wanted to better understand what I was getting myself into before I started purchasing any of the Level Packs, Team Packs, or Fun Packs. At 30/25/15$ each (respectively) these little purchases will add up quickly. This is why I wanted to understand how much I would need to pay to experience the whole game. What I've concluded is that the base game is a pretty decent value, especially if you consider that LEGO bricks are worth about 0.10$ each piece. The value of the expansions seems to vary. There are four levels of investment in LEGO Dimensions: 100$ – Starter Pack Only – Just buy the Starter Pack and play through the main game and three adventure worlds. 315$ – All Levels and Adventure Worlds – By purchasing the right sets, you can unlock the entire game. You will still miss some puzzles which require a specific character. 390$ – All Levels, Adventure Worlds, and Character/Vehicle Abilities – A carefully selected set of Fun Packs will give you every in-game ability. 565$ – Everything – If you want every character, vehicle and Accessory, it’s going to cost a premium! I prepared an in-depth analysis of exactly what sets you need to buy to save the most money at: http://brickarchitect.com/legodimensions/Don't forget that the new content comes out every two months, so there are plenty of ways to spend even more in the future!Sincerely,Tom

  21. I could see a limited edition A-Wing, a landspeeder, AT-AT, maybe even a speeder bike. If you write off the PT, you write off a large number of designs. The republic gunship, aat, at-te, Jedi interceptor, wheelbike, Sith infiltrator, venator cruiser, naboo royal starship are all designs that could benefit from some attention.

  29. It usually takes her a bit longer than most when it comes to building lego sets. She organizes everything in piles, picks the pieces up she drops all the time, and studies the directions to make sure Lego isn't messing with her and the pieces actually go where the directions say. LOL My daughter and I sit there and laugh when she isn't looking. lol The GF enjoys building as much as we do, so it's all good. I'm surfing the web and watching ELF at the current moment. She doesn't bother or nag me, she's a great girl, she puts up with my many hobbies, and loves that I'm into legos, she even buys me some.. One of my Christmas Presents Last yeas was a Batman Tumbler from her, I was like hell yea!!! She's a keeper..

  31. I did build the new X-Wing and the new TIE-Fighter. Must say that the new X-Wing looks way better than expected and the "bringing my wings into attack positions" mechanism gave me more fun than it should have done ^.^ Also firing these missiles has been fun *g* Thanks to 4 missiles and the rubber band mechanism the x-wing is superior to the TIE-Fighter as a toy. The X-Wing is also worth its money though! Both are very nice builds!

  33. Like 99% of sets, you have to wait until it goes under 50 sellers on amazon, and ebay also has that sort of low number. Look at market street (5 resellers at the moment), cafe corner (12), green grocer (21) all of those are over the thousand mark. Once Townhall falls below the 50 mark, i'd suspect you see it spike into the 700 to 800 range. And as it continues to fall, it will continue to raise another 100.00 for every 10 that drop out. Right now, you just have too many skittish "investors" that want to see 1000.00 returns less than a year into it, and they aren't seeing it, so they are rushing out the door. That's just not reasonable, but it's typical of most of the types that can't wait more than a year to sell their stock. I'd say about 80% of "investors" that buy lego behave like this and just don't have the patience to see good returns late in the life cycle. Pet Shop will more than likely take even longer to hit that 1000.00 mark, but it eventually will as well.

  44. The older iconic UCS sets will weather the storm and remain highly collectible and desirable...although it will slow their growth. The people paying those prices are not your typical buyers. The are serious STAR WARS and LEGO fans that want to complete their collection and want all the versions of the top sets. If I already didn't own them, I would want to own them and find a way to acquire them. LEGO has given resellers plenty of time to unload classic sets. My issue is that there are so many more options out there that I would like duplicated in bricks that rehashing older versions and is a disappointment to me. It doesn't really alter my thought process or methods on investing. I understand that LEGO likes to rerelease sets to new fans so they can enjoy them. A guy like me is still looking for a UCS AT-AT, Darth Vader bust and C-3PO model to pair with R2.

  45. Disappointing that LEGO cannot come up with new and unique UCS sets without rehashing old versions that were done quite well. There are plenty of different vehicles and characters they can be recreated in ABS plastic without having to resort to duplicating retired sets.

  46. about 0%. ISD is done. SOLD OUT. Star Wars Episode comes out in 7 days. The demand is going to be through the roof. Any returned stock will be snatched up. I seriously doubt it or did you guys forget that theres a new movie coming out next week. What signs are "weaker" for ISD retiring compared to the rest of the RED sold out retired sets? Already selling for $160-170 on ebay bin free shipping. Last similar sized ISD goes for $300-400. Once lowballers and retail stock is cleared, 250 by June seems like a gimme.

  47. We finished putting together all our Christmas sets. This is a new tradition for us this year and I am really excited about it. My husband is like, "they only add one set a year though, right?". Sure, just one set a year (plus the little scene sets and a polybag or two and maybe some older sets that I don't have yet).
