The problem is the sniping approach. When most investors buy in bulk when a set is rumor to retire that spikes sells and may lead Lego to extend its life. But if everyone buy their quotas in a steady phase throughout the product life cycle, it should not skew the sales metric too much and should reduce any last minute product life extension. Also less F5 heart attack on us too5 points

First, tumbler is a huge set, so it will not be easy to restart production willy nilly since there will be too many different parts to make, unlike exo suit. Second, buy limit is set at 1 per account throughout the world, and this set is not found in many toy shops. If lego wants to pump up sales, they should have up the buy limit to at least 2, preferably 5. Third, although this set has been around for 1 year, the buy limit on lego shop remains at 1, which hint of production problems with this set. It could be that this set has too many of unique parts that are not used in other current sets. From the above, i think it is retiring soon, as indicated.4 points

Sarcasm? There were/are plenty of places to make money with Lego this holiday. But trying to quick flip new sets is always dangerous, many of the retired/nearing retirement sets are doing extremely well however. Either way, I don't mind people hitting the eject button :-)3 points

I think this set gets a clear boost from the low price of oil. For the first time in years, Jawas can afford to take their 'crawlers on road trips. For AFOL's, maybe there's a mod out there somewhere for putting a leafblower's gasoline engine in a 75059, plugging in a Roomba circuitboard, and sending it out to mow the lawn...3 points

$130 set bought on BF for 40% off sold via CL for RRP. $50 profit for an 8-day hold. My most sincere apologies to the QFLL's. I was wrong to criticize you. Even with my high moral standards, opportunities like this are just too hard to say no to.2 points

Here is a basic Table of Contents and a list of the main minifigures I want to include in the book. This is not set in stone. I can adapt and change things at will. I need individual photos of all of these minifigures. They can be a standard hi res shots or creative action shots. Let me know if you have any other suggestions or questions. Thanks... I might include Bellville in a chapter that combines many of the larger and vintage minifigures. Technic is also a possibilty, but their minifigures are basic and not that valuable. If you are talking about the new "constraction" sets like the 75111 Darth Vader, that is not going to be in the book. I'm going to post a basic outline of the chapters later today and it will show a basic breakdown of what will be in the book.2 points

Most of what you're looking for will probably be found in the blogs, but some general rules of thumb: - Store boxes on the side, packed tightly next to each other. Never stack them flat for extended periods of time, the cardboard just can't handle the weight and the lower boxes will eventually crush. Storing them tightly next to each other will help prevent the contents from sagging and bowing out the bottom of the box. ---- in an ideal world, if you could store LEGO boxes laying flat, never more than one on top of each other, that would be the best way since you'd get practically zero outward pressure from content sag. But that would take an enormous amount of space/shelving! - Store them in a place with "normal" humidity with no sunlight. This will prevent the box from absorbing moisture and help the seals stay attached longer. Sunlight will eventually fade the box artwork. - Some people do like to bag them up (http://community.brickpicker.com/blog/brickvesting/protecting-lego-boxes-storage-bags/) - Some people like to store them in outer boxes to prevent shelf wear and generally protect against dust and damage. - Don't store on wire shelving - put some thick cardboard or thin plywood (try masonite, nice and smooth) to keep the wires from digging into the box. IF you need to stack them, store them in outer cardboard boxes. The LEGO boxes are not made to handle the weight of another set on top... they will crush. So when you do stack those outer boxes filled with sets, you can stack same-sized boxes ensuring the edges (the strongest part of the box) are lined up. Look at how pallets are stacked - if all boxes are the same size, they are stacked perfectly vertical. If they are different sizes (say rectangular) then one layer goes North-South and the next goes East-West.2 points

Yeah, saw a pile of these in store yesterday. Funny how they were not in stock during the promotion but show up later for Target to sell. Seems deceptive to me for the store to run a promotion when the promo item isn't even in stock but then sell them later.1 point

Seems like this one many bought early, so it was good on them. Remember at SAH when it sold out under VIP in no time flat?! Resellers were raking in the dough last winter. Since then it's been clogging the shelves!! For the most part it's been stocked by those who wanted them. I usually don't wait until the last minute to buy a load. Eventually they all will retire so buy when funds allow, that way sales are spread out. I always say the earlier the better, but realize not all want/can to do it this way. I know it sounds like a broken record, but if everyone did it this way I truly believe we'd see things retire quicker. Bottom line is we make a bigger difference than you think.1 point

the demand for ISD is clearly less than that of AT-AT. at least just out of the gate it is. That being said, I still have 10 ISD. I'm just not mad scrambling for more ISD but I do have a nice 4 hour road trip set up for myself tomorrow to harvest the 10AT-AT's and 20 Snowspeeders at walmarts in western NH I have not yet beeen too befoyer.1 point

I was at the Potomac Mills, Virginia, BAM this morning, where one of the employees is newer, chatty, and not jaded from dealing with us reseller scum. An AFOL was trying to get intel on the Red Fives and Death Star, and then conversation moved over to the Exclusives. I missed what she was saying regarding Tower Bridge versus Sydney Opera House, though I think she was pushing Tower Bridge as expected to go before SOH. However, the worst thing she said (I hope my ears deceived me) was that Pet Shop was being extended through next year. Something to the effect of with 2 having been retired last year and only 1 being added next year, TLG decided that they wanted to have more modulars around at the same time and so decided to extend it. If so, should we rename it Pet Star or Death Shop?1 point

Not my post, but found on the BL forum http://www.bricklink.com/message.asp?ID=943141 "Without getting into personal details about the operators, here's what Iobserved. They would purchase sets and immediately put them into the store before beingsorted. I was one of their sorters. Parts were scattered all over the house intrays with absolutely no organization, except by color. Imagine looking downon 10 trays with 24 compartments all filled with different black parts. UGH!And similar parts and colors were not even together. So if someone bought outall of a particular part, they would have to not only go to multiple trays, butalso dig through piles of unsorted bricks.I won't even get into details about not getting paid for the work I did,but it took 6 months to receive my last paycheck from them. Now this was back in 2011, but their store has been going since about 2007, soI can only imagine that nothing has changed. One thing I will say is that in the short time I worked for them I learned alot about what NOT to do with my store. Hence, why our reputation is practicallyspotless! Mark BauerBUDDYSBRICKS.com"1 point

F5 is to add a few more for funsies and/or the thrill. At least for me. Then I can also tier sales a little better. But F5 is probably not the best strategy if it is your only strategy and you have an actual plan/desired amount of a set.1 point

Checked my Target. 2 trs ago at this time it was 80% bare and filled in w random baby toys. As you might see, there are many sets with 10deep in stock even in the 20% off items. Only one or two have sold out. Like others I overhear "wow its so expensive for this tiny box, lets just buy him a game or something" and nothing is bought.1 point

That may be the case. I'd have to look at the front to make sure.1 point

I checked out my local Canadian Tire, no Lego sales (west Coast) but they did have the Star Wars Galactic Heroes sets 45% off. (Slave 1/ Jabba set & Landspeeder / Dewback set) So $29.99 instead of $54.99. My kids love these!1 point

The above pictures are great for the individual minifigure discussion/analysis and would work well in portions of the book, but we would like to mix in some custom shots as well. Here are some more creative examples of how you can make a common Collectible Minifigure like Medusa or Bumblebee Girl a more interesting photograph and one that would work well in this book....1 point

Who's talking about buying GBH for no more than 65 Euro??? I see the free GBH promo I'd get together with the Sandcrawler as a bonus discount where I just don't know yet for how much I can sell it to get my purchase price of the Sandcrawler down.1 point

This set is only to be found at Lego Store or SaH. I am happy I bought three last spring at 15% off. The best price I have seen it at. I would suggest that if you want one, order it rather sooner than later. But only one copy. Capite!1 point

That is not really true. I started the game 8 years ago and was one of the first sellers who made good profit selling Cafe Corner or Green Grocer or Town Plan... Nevertheless my best decision was one year ago to buy 100 Mars Rovers. Therefore I say, the game is more difficult but still possible...1 point
