These don't have to be huge articles. Maybe a monthly 300 word blog about why one shouldn't invest in LEGO bricks. It would be a huge lightning rod and interesting conversation starter. Negative commentary is welcome as long as it is in good taste and respectful of others. LEGO investing is not for everyone and their should be an opposing view to all the "RA RA" dialog on the site. I even have a name for your blog...MR.SUNSHINE'S ANTI LEGO INVESTING BLOG...LOL6 points

This could have gone in about 5 different threads, but ultimately, it's an MOC, so it belongs here. Credit to PaddyBricksplitter3 points

Actually, once I'm done with the article I'm currently working on I might give writing a "Dangers" of LEGO investing type article. Actually a good idea.3 points

I guess the main thing I discovered when writing the book was that there are plenty of themes that appreciate very well and are never discussed. I knew most, but some themes really surprised me. As for the "Stormtrooper by the urinal" thing, that will be book number two. We will be giving members a chance to get heavily involved on the creative and visual side of things with this next book. We are finalizing the contract now with the publisher.3 points

The reality is that a) some people spend far too much time searching on eBay and b ) others exaggerate how good the deals are... but general hints are: - look for common spelling errors (millenium vs millennium) - mis-categorized items - learn to use the advanced search features to group words and exclude words - and most of all, don't trust eBay's search feature since it uses a highly complex and unpublished sorting algorithm .. there are services out there that will search eBay's listings for you based on criteria you set and they'll do the search all day long (sometimes up to every 30 seconds) looking for matches. People don't like to give too many hints about how they go about searching for the deals... using an automated service or writing their own scripts to monitor eBay and other retailer websites (or paying someone to write them) is a lot more popular than people think.3 points

The Ultimate 42009 is by far the most complicated build I have ever done. The creator of this moc is Jurgen Krooshoop and he did a fantastic job. It is an expensive build with all the PF's. It has eight motors and two battery boxes. In the near future, I will also be taking apart the 8043 and building his ultimate version of that model as well.3 points

People should also realize that good things can happen if a person writes well and starts producing content. It's not only good for the site, but good for them as well. You never know when someone will come knocking asking you to write a book. If Jeff and I can do it, many of you can as well. I think Jeff also forgot to mention we are willing to pay for quality content. It's something that has to be figured out, but we can discuss that with interested parties.3 points

Finally got that sweet smile and wink to work today. Ended up with a free Bat after the manager scanned a $15 off coupon under the register. She simply smiled and said "I made it work."2 points

Why don't you write something about the pitfalls of LEGO investing? We are not asking for people to give up secrets. We are looking for ALL SORTS OF CONTENT. News, reviews, videos, analysis...whatever. Here is a chance to be heard and to impress others. It's easy to post stuff on forums. It's much harder to present it in a formal manner that can be scrutinized and/or enjoyed by thousands of people. Like Jeff said, people can use it as a way to promote their own endeavors.2 points

The news posts from other sites will be removed from the home page totally. I will keep the feed going in the news section, but will probably block it from being crawled by search engines.2 points

Fantastic read. I read it cover to cover. I learned a lot from this guide. I need to rethink my strategy a bit. I'm already targeting a couple different sets that I wasn't paying attention to before. This guide helped open my eyes to the collectibility of different kinds of sets. Overall very well done! Great photography too, btw! Disappointed we didn't see "the thumb", the cat, or a storm trooper at a urinal. Oh well, can't show all your best work on the first edition. Congrats on the book. This is all around awesome. Everything is awesome.2 points

My sets arrived in original cartons, even when my order didn't fill the case so I am happy. I should be very close to having enough track to run through two rooms... and around a Christmas tree.2 points

I'm going to throw this out there as an unexpected benefit - you might be able to parlay writing on a regular basis for a press pass into conventions. San Diego Comic Con has some of the strictest guidelines, but I feel as if you can pass their test, you can pass anyone else's. If Brickpicker is truly going to start generating content on the front page in the form of articles, blogs, etc. (as opposed to just writing forum posts), then you will be a contributor that should be eligible for consideration. Considering Lego usually has a presence at this major events, it could really be an extra perk for you. Considering my own proximity to San Diego Comic Con, I'm really considering what I can do to contribute in a way that might really be of benefit all the way around.2 points

I've met so many people with small warehouses full of Lego sets that it has me a little tepid about the future of investing. (I know there is a thread for that.) I'm not stopping....just lowering expectations.2 points

Don't mind at all. I purchased lot from a fellow Brickpicker back in February/March. Consisted of 250+ lbs. He had done some initial sorting, but finishing that and washing all the parts took about a month. I have been ordering parts as I go, inventorying about a dozen sets or so going by theme.(Had over 100 sets in it from 2005-2009 timeframe) Overall, I'm sure I've made minimum wage due to that hours put in sorting, but was able to keep some really cool sets like an Emerald Night, Motorized AT/AT, 7993 Service Station I've wanted for a long time, random figures, etc. etc. Between what I kept and sold/end up selling(have about a dozen left), I'll make a few thousand profit on a few thousand investment. Was hoping to double my money and I'll be darn close to doing it. This takes into account parts ordered, but not time or anything as I don't lose normal income due to working on this. I've kept a spreadsheet just for this lot to see how it goes. I'll also be taking a long break from doing this again as well.2 points

I just wrote a second article today. Guys - this really doesn't take a long time to submit something. Even with pulling down a photo, and linking to BrickPicker pages, it took maybe 10-15 minutes to write up a short news article. For those of you that talk about giving back to the site - I realize transferring funds via PayPal for a yearly subscription seems like the easiest way to help out. But this is a very easy way to give back to the site. The more exposure that BrickPicker gets on Google, the more clickthrus it receives, and the more money back into their pocket. Please consider taking even a few minutes to contribute a new item, or an analysis, or some other original content.1 point

Perfect. This is the type of content that we are looking for. Short and to the point. New info. We can mix this type in with longer, more in depth reviews, videos and analysis and we will have the best news on the web.1 point

Great article; I liked that it included an investment aspect, which most other news outlets rarely, if ever, touch. I am disappointed that it didn't include any reference to the Fire Bike resemblance.1 point

There is more to this than just typing up content. There may be those of you out there that like to do video content. That would be great as well. I am already talking with members here that are interested, but this can be open to everyone. You can post Brickpicker branded video content that will be posted on the Brickpicker Youtube Channel and share revenue on views/clicks, etc. Some of you might be better at speaking and showing or just be outright entertaining. We can put your videos in front of millions of unique visitors a year and allow your voice to be heard. I know there are those of you out there that like to do the stop motion movies, builds, reviews, commentaries or maybe even a news broadcast from retail stores. There are lots of interesting things to do with a decent sized audience at your disposal. It could be very interesting.1 point

It depends on what you define as "good deal". Sometimes I like to by exclusives on EBay if I can get them below MSRP. That's a good deal to me. I do stumble upon decent deals from time-to-time, but I don't have my business plan wrapped around it.1 point

That means cancelling all the Porsche Speed Champions sets too, then. Ain´t gonna happen. Beware of any car that declares 1 under the emissions tax threshold - only a German would fake things with such precision.1 point

So in that case maybe the E Up (Happy Mondays Special Edition) is the best choice.1 point
